January 31st Fourth Sunday in ordinary time
Merciful Christ, we were presented to You, the Father and the Holy Spirit
when we were brought to the church for baptism.
Lord,as we celebrate Your presentation in the temple, let it be a reminder
for us of what a great privledge we received by becoming a child of God.
Jesus, let us realize that we are children of a royal heritage, and heirs
to the privledge of eternal life.
Thank You for Your great gift, and let us be excited to belong to You.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday TO LOVE IS DIVINE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/31/2016
"There are in the end three things that last: faith, hope, and love, and the
greatest of these is love." -1 Corinthians 13:13
If we have not love, we are nothing (1 Cor 13:2). If we have not love, our
best efforts are useless (1 Cor 13:3). "The man without love has known nothing
of God, for God is Love" (1 Jn 4:8). "The man who does not love is among the
living dead" (1 Jn 3:14). Life without love is death. We must have love.
However, it is humanly impossible for us to truly love. It seems that we are
able to love some people almost naturally. However, without divine intervention,
either this is not true love or God is helping us love without us knowing it.
To love is divine. Even the various expressions of love are divine. For example,
"to err is human, to forgive is divine."
To love, we must realize the necessity of love and its impossibility by human
powers. Then we will ask the Lord to give us the miracle of love. He will do
this by loving us first (1 Jn 4:19) and purifying us through obedience to the
truth (1 Pt 1:22). Love is the fruit of a great, multi-faceted work of the
Spirit (Gal 5:22). He graces us with faith, virtue, discernment, self-control,
perseverance, piety, care for our brothers and sisters, and finally love
(2 Pt 1:5-7). Love is a miracle resulting from a series of miracles. To act
from a heart of love, that is, charity, is also a miracle. To love is divine.
Ask God for love several times a day. He is the only Source of love, for He is
Love (1 Jn 4:16).
Prayer: Father, may I receive Your love and grow in Your love so I can give
love and act out of charity.
Promise: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I
dedicated you." -Jer 1:5
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, soon to come in glory. Be glorified in our
lives. Alleluia!
Monday ARE YOU A LOSER?

Prayer for Our local parish to have compassion and love on the sick. To not judge

change in the neighborhood of Crown heights Brooklyn NY. I pray that God will
raise up true intercessors at the local parish that has a love for all people. I

Please pray for Agatha who has been harassed abused and physically assaulted by
her husband even though she works from morn to night to feed and clothe them both.
He is a an alcoholic and is right now standing with a stick to beat her to death.
That the Holy Spirit will stay his hand - and deliver him from this violent and
abusive way of dealing with his wife who has been faithful to him all these years.
Please storm heaven for them. She is a good woman, faithful, dilgent, good in her
work, intelligent and has provided for him inspite of his being an alcoholic and
doing no work all these years.

Please pray for me. My husband who does nothing but drink the whole day is ready
right now to beat me to death with a stick because I have just reached home late
on account of being held up in the house where I work as a maid as there was
repair work going on in their house and I helped them clean and clear up. Jesus
Mother Mary please be with me and intercede for me and for him to be calm and
stop beating me up and abusing me. I work from morn to night to keep body and
soul together and he beats me up. I just cannot take it any longer.
(Anonymous, , 1/30/2016 1:08:01 PM)

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2016-01.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
INDIFFERENCE AND PEACE
"A GRAVE DERELICTION"
Indifference and lack of commitment constitute a grave dereliction of the duty
whereby each of us must work in accordance with our abilities and our role in
society for the promotion of the common good, and in particular for peace,
which is one of mankind's most precious goods.
WE MUST RECOGNIZE INDIFFERENCE
... All of us are called to realize how indifference can manifest itself in our
lives and to work concretely to improve the world around us, beginning with our
families, neighbors and places of employment.
THE POPE'S APPEAL
... I would like to make a threefold appeal to the leaders of nations: to
refrain from drawing other peoples into conflicts or wars which destroy not
only their material, cultural and social legacy, but also ... their moral and
spiritual integrity; to forgive or manage in a sustainable way the
international debt of the poorer nations; and to adopt policies of cooperation
which instead of bowing before the dictatorship of certain ideologies, will
respect the values of local populations and, in any case, not prove detrimental
to the fundamental and inalienable right to life of the unborn.

ONLY CONVICTS ARE FREE - One Bread, One Body, 1/30/2016
Saturday, January 30, 2016
2 Samuel 12:1-7, 10-17, Psalm 51:12-17, Mark 4:35-41
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/013016.cfm
ONLY CONVICTS ARE FREE
"Nathan said to David: 'You are the man!' " -2 Samuel 12:7
David committed adultery, lied repeatedly, and had some people killed (2 Sm 11:4ff). After all these sins, he naturally did not feel very guilty, for guilt usually decreases as sin increases. This is because of the blinding, numbing effects of sin (see Jn 9:39-41). However, the Lord in His mercy sent the prophet Nathan to convict David of his sins (2 Sm 12:1). Then David repented and prayed: "Have mercy on me, O God, in Your goodness; in the greatness of Your compassion wipe out my offense. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me. For I acknowledge my offense, and my sin is before me always" (Ps 51:3-5).
Like David, we need to be convicted of our sins. It is better for us that Jesus no longer walks the face of the earth (Jn 16:7), for He has sent another Paraclete Who convicts us "about sin, about justice, about condemnation" (Jn 16:8). The Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, also convinces us that there is hope for us in our sinfulness because of our Father's mercy and the cleansing power of Jesus' blood shed on Calvary.
We do not have to live in denial or die in despair. The Holy Spirit convicts and frees us. Come Holy Spirit, convict us of our sins!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, pierce me with Your two-edged sword (see Heb 4:12).
Promise: "A great awe overcame them at this. They kept saying to one another, 'Who can this be that the wind and the sea obey Him?' " -Mk 4:41
Praise: After fasting for several days, Gail saw a change for the better in regard to a sinful behavior she had been trying to change.

A SIN-SICK CHURCH - One Bread, One Body, 1/29/2016
Friday, January 29, 2016
2 Samuel 11:1-10, 13-17, Psalm 51:3-7, 10-11, Mark 4:26-34
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/012916.cfm
A SIN-SICK CHURCH
"Through it all the seed sprouts and grows without his knowing how it happens." -Mark 4:27
Because the Church was founded by Jesus (Mt 16:18), because Jesus is the Head of the Church (Eph 1:22), and because the Church is the heart of God's kingdom (see Mt 16:19), the Church will always grow (Mk 4:28) and will last forever (see Heb 12:28). Even if the Church in some areas is as small as a mustard seed, it will surely grow (Mk 4:31ff). Even if Christians are very weak, the Church will become strong, for God's power reaches perfection in our weakness (2 Cor 12:9).
However, the growth of the Church can be severely curtailed and delayed by our sins, for the wages of sin is death (Rm 6:23). To sin is the worst thing we can possibly do to hurt the Church, our families, ourselves, poor people, children, and everyone.
Therefore, repent! Go to Confession, for Jesus has given the leaders of the Church the authority to forgive sins in His name (Jn 20:23). By God's grace, overcome all temptations. Don't stand in the way of God's kingdom of love coming "on earth as it is in heaven" (Mt 6:10). Repent and build the Church.
Prayer: Jesus, may I love the Church as You do (Eph 5:25). May I lay down my life for You and Your Body, the Church.
Promise: "Have mercy on me, O God, in Your goodness; in the greatness of Your compassion wipe out my offense. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me." -Ps 51:3-4
Praise: After many years, Phillip finally went to confession and his life was changed forever. Set free from sin, he was set free for Jesus, and followed Him with joy.
(For a related teaching, order our tape "The Church in God's Plan" on audio AV 67-3 or video V-67 or listen or download CD 67-3 or DVD 67 at presentationministries.com.)

GOING TO EXTREMES
"Let him who has ears to hear Me, hear!" -Mark 4:23
When you receive any revelation, blessing, encouragement, strength, or hope from reading the daily Scriptures and the commentary in this book, you must share what God has given you. "The gift you have received, give as a gift" (Mt 10:8). "In the measure you give you shall receive, and more besides" (Mk 4:24). The more you share from God's Word, the more you will receive. If you don't share what you receive, what little you "have will be taken away" (Mk 4:25).
The Bible and even this book, One Bread, One Body, will eventually mean much more to you or very little. We can see this in the attitude people have toward the Bible. They usually love it or hate it. Some say the Bible is God's Word, the greatest book of all times, and the revelation of God's love. They have received so much from the Bible "and more besides." Others see the Bible as an archaic, confusing, and outdated hodgepodge of ancient folklore. If they ever had any appreciation of the Bible, it has been taken away from them. Share the Word or lose it.
Prayer: Father, may I sow Your Word bountifully and reap bountifully (2 Cor 9:6).
Promise: "By Your blessing the house of Your servant shall be blessed forever." -2 Sm 7:29
Praise: St. Thomas was literally pure and followed Jesus the Lamb all his life (see Rv 14:4). He shared all he learned from the study of scripture, and the Lord Jesus showed him rich visions of Himself as his reward.

GOD'S SEED; GOD'S METHODS
"The sower is sowing…the word." -Mark 4:14
Modern agriculture sows seed very precisely. Along a row, seeds are planted with a specific spacing. In addition, rows are spaced apart horizontally. Thus the amount of seed necessary to plant a field can be calculated from the dimensions of the field. Using modern sowing techniques, seed is not wasted or over-sown. The farmer knows how many seed bags to buy, and can save his costs by not overbuying seed.
This is not the sowing method that Jesus' hearers used. They used the "broadcast" method of sowing. A sower went to the seedpile and held up the bottom of his garment to form a large "pocket." A farm helper poured large quantities of seed into that pocket, as much as the garment could hold without tearing the cloth, "good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over, will they pour into the fold of your garment" (Lk 6:38; see also Ru 3:15ff). Then the sower walked out to the field and simply scattered seed by pulling a handful of seed from the garment and tossing it from side to side as he walked. There is no concept of spacing seeds precisely; rather, the seeds are scattered everywhere in the hopes that a good harvest grows up.
Too often we share the Gospel with a friend who is like us, but we "space over" people who are poor, of a different race, or enemies, and don't share the Gospel with them. Jesus tells us to spread the Gospel everywhere, in all directions, and allow God to work in each person's life. If a radio station used the modern "spacing" method, who would ever hear the broadcast? Would only one of ten homes get the radio signal? God's Word can do the job in every heart (Is 55:10-11). We just have to get the Word out.
Prayer: Father, may I never fail to spread Your Word because of my prejudices.
Promise: "Let him who has ears to hear Me, hear!" -Mk 4:9
Praise: St. Angela began a religious order to alleviate the sufferings of poor, uneducated children and teach them in her schools.

BE A TITUS - One Bread, One Body, 1/26/2016
Tuesday, January 26, 2016, Sts. Timothy and Titus

BE A TITUS
"Titus, my own true child..." -Titus 1:4
St. Titus the apostle is seen in the New Testament as one who brings peace and unity. Titus accompanied Paul to Jerusalem (Gal 2:1) when Paul had a council with the Jewish apostles for the purpose of submitting his preaching content "for their scrutiny" (Gal 2:2). Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles, and Titus, one of Paul's Gentile converts to Christianity, was living proof of the fruit of Paul's ministry (Gal 2:3). Titus' living faith was a witness to the Jerusalem apostles, who stood united with Paul, approved him, and re-commissioned him to "go to the Gentiles" (Gal 2:9).
Paul wrote a severe letter of correction to the young Christians at Corinth. Because this was an explosive situation, Paul chose Titus, the man of peace and unity, to deliver this letter in person to Corinth. After Titus departed, Paul grew anxious for news of the impact of his letter. Paul couldn't minister to the people of Troas, despite an "open door" to preach there, because Titus hadn't returned yet with news (2 Cor 2:12-13). Paul was "low in spirit," but God gave him "strength with the arrival of Titus" (2 Cor 7:6). Titus found joy in the repentance of the Corinthians (2 Cor 7:13) and gave Paul joy by his unifying ministry in Corinth. Titus' heart embraced the Corinthians with an expanding love (2 Cor 7:15). No wonder Paul sent Titus to make peace. Blessed are the peacemakers (Mt 5:9).
Prayer: Father, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Promise: "With the strength which comes from God bear your share of the hardship which the gospel entails." -2 Tm 1:8
Praise: "Thanks be to God, Who has put an equal zeal for you in the heart of Titus!" (2 Cor 8:16)

"A FUTURE FULL OF HOPE" (Jer 29:11) - One Bread, One Body, 1/25/2016

"A FUTURE FULL OF HOPE" (Jer 29:11)
"Saul for his part grew steadily more powerful." -Acts 9:22
St. Paul is one of the greatest people in history. He was an apostle, the first missionary, a martyr, and a saint. He founded several churches and wrote much of the New Testament. His work and word continues to be a major influence in the world.
The Lord's work through Paul is so prodigious that most Christians may find it difficult to relate to him. However, Paul was as human as anyone. He considered himself to be the worst sinner (1 Tm 1:15). He was "an extreme case" (1 Tm 1:16). Paul came to Corinth "in weakness and fear, and with much trepidation" (1 Cor 2:3). Paul said: "If I must boast, I will make a point of my weaknesses" (2 Cor 11:30). Some Corinthians said of Paul: "His letters, they say, are severe and forceful, but when he is here in person he is unimpressive and his word makes no great impact" (2 Cor 10:10). Paul had a thorn in the flesh (2 Cor 12:7) and a challenging physical condition (Gal 4:13-14). He considered himself "at the end of the line," like someone "doomed to die in the arena," "a spectacle to the universe," a fool for Christ (1 Cor 4:9-10). Paul described his life: "We were crushed beyond our strength, even to the point of despairing of life. We were left to feel like men condemned to death so that we might trust, not in ourselves, but in God Who raises the dead" (2 Cor 1:8-9).
No matter how sinful, weak, rejected, and distressed you are; don't despair. The Lord made something beautiful of Paul's life; He will do the same for you. Give your life with all its brokenness to Jesus.
Prayer: Father, give my life international and eternal significance.
Promise: "The man who believes in it and accepts baptism will be saved; the man who refuses to believe in it will be condemned." -Mk 16:16
Praise: St. Paul endured the doubts of his fellow Christians for years after his conversion. Yet he humbly and patiently continued to spread God's Word with power.

PM eNewsletter 3rd Sunday in ordinary time
January 24th, The 3rd Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, You called St. Paul, who was a sinner, a man who thought that You and Your followers
were to be eliminated.
When Paul asked You who You were that he was persecuting, You said that "when you persecute
the least of my people, you persecute me".
Jesus, continue to help all our brothers and sisters, who today are being persecuted for
their belief in You.
Help us to pray for them and assist them in every way possible.
Let us do what we can to bring religious freedom to all people.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE BIBLE CHALLENGE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/24/2016
"He came to Nazareth where He had been reared, and entering the synagogue on
the sabbath as He was in the habit of doing, He stood up to do the reading."
-Luke 4:16
Jesus began His public ministry reading and proclaiming God's Word. Ezra began
a renewal of the Israelite nation by reading and teaching God's Word from
daybreak to midday (Neh 8:3, 8). We too can begin this year with an extensive
time in God's Word. Consider committing yourself to read and pray the Bible
for an hour a day till the beginning of Lent. If this seems too much, commit
yourself to fifteen to thirty minutes of daily Bible reading for the next two
weeks.
When we deeply expose ourselves to God's Word, we are purified of evil
(Eph 5:26) and trimmed of that which limits our growth in the Lord (Jn 15:2-3).
By receiving God's Word, we hear the Lord better and grow in faith (Rm 10:17).
God's Word will help us know ourselves better by judging the thoughts and
reflections of our hearts (Heb 4:12). By God's Word, we are fed spiritually
(Mt 4:4), made joyful, and strengthened (Neh 8:10). God's Word will make us
"fully competent and equipped for every good work" (2 Tm 3:17).
These are only a few effects of God's Word. His Word is so living, effective
(Heb 4:12), powerful, and rich that this may well be the best year of our lives
if we begin it with a deep experience of the Word.
Prayer: Father, may I be as eager for Your Word as a newborn baby for milk
(1 Pt 2:2).
Promise: "If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member
is honored, all the members share its joy." -1 Cor 12:26
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, the Light of Life (Jn 8:12). Alleluia to You
forever and ever!

INDIFFERENCE AND PEACE
DIGNITY AND RELATIONSHIPS
Personal dignity and interpersonal relationships are what constitutes us as
human beings whom God willed to create in His own image and likeness... We
are related to all our brothers and sisters, for who we are responsible and
with whom we act in solidarity.
"A MENACE TO ... HUMAN FAMILY"
... Indifference represents a menace to the human family... I would ask
everyone to take stock of this reality, in order to overcome indifference
and to win peace.
INDIFFERENCE SPREADS

MASQUERADING JEALOUSY? - One Bread, One Body, 1/23/2016
Saturday, January 23, 2016
2 Samuel 1:1-4, 11-12, 19, 23-27, Psalm 80:2-3, 5-7, Mark 3:20-21

MASQUERADING JEALOUSY?
"When His family heard of this they came to take charge of Him, saying, 'He is out of His mind.' " -Mark 3:21
Jesus' relatives said He was crazy (Mk 3:21) after He had become so popular that the crowds surrounding Him made it impossible to get food to Him. Were Jesus' relatives concerned about Him getting proper nutrition? Or were they jealous of His popularity?
The religious leaders of Jesus' day said Jesus was worse than crazy. They accused Him of being demon-possessed. They "asserted, 'He is possessed by Beelzebul,' and 'He expels demons with the help of the prince of demons' " (Mk 3:22). Were they concerned about Jesus' pastoral practice or His theology of demons? Or were they jealous?
Jealousy often masquerades as concern for others' physical, pastoral, or theological well-being. Are you truly concerned about others? Or are your motives selfishness and jealousy?
When Joshua suddenly had pastoral problems with two people's use of prophecy, Moses asked him: "Are you jealous for my sake?" (Nm 11:29) The writer of the book of Wisdom made this commitment: "Neither shall I admit consuming jealousy to my company, because that can have no fellowship with Wisdom" (Wis 6:23). When John the Baptizer was tempted to become jealous of Jesus, he resisted the temptation and proclaimed: Jesus "must increase, while I must decrease" (Jn 3:30). Repent of jealousy now!
Prayer: Father, may I trust You so deeply and be so secure in Your love that I will not compare myself with others and become jealous.
Promise: "David seized his garments and rent them, and all the men who were with him did likewise. They mourned and wept and fasted until evening." -2 Sm 1:11-12
Praise: Albert has been a daily communicant for forty years.

Rescript: In accord with the "Code of Canon Law", I hereby grant my permission to publish "One Bread, One Body" covering the period from December 1, 2015 through January 31, 2016

RESPECTING GOD'S CHOICES - One Bread, One Body, 1/22/2016
Friday, January 22, 2016, St. Vincent
1 Samuel 24:3-21, Psalm 57:2-4, 6, 11, Mark 3:13-19

RESPECTING GOD'S CHOICES
David said: "I decided, 'I will not raise a hand against my lord, for he is the Lord's anointed.' " -1 Samuel 24:11
David spared Saul's life when he had a perfect chance to kill his tormentor. Now David was a seasoned warrior who had killed many opponents (e.g. see 1 Sm 23:5; 30:17ff). The only reason David held back his hand was because Saul carried the anointing of leadership from God. Saul had been chosen by God (1 Sm 10:1).
Jesus "summoned the men He Himself had decided on" (Mk 3:13). It wasn't that the twelve apostles were especially qualified for their position; their only qualification was that they were chosen by the Lord (Jn 15:16). Saul looked like a poor choice by God. Likewise, it often appeared that the Lord had chosen His apostles poorly. They made mistake after mistake, and at times completely failed to understand Jesus (Mk 6:52).
It's not unusual to hear people remark today that church leaders are incompetent. These leaders may seem foolish to some, but "God's folly is wiser than men, and His weakness more powerful than men" (1 Cor 1:25). God speaks through those He anointed and chose (Jn 15:16). For example, if God wishes to speak about marriage through celibate men, that doesn't make His message any less truthful. It is arrogance to assert that God is not powerful enough to lead and teach accurately through those He chooses, even those who appear unqualified. May all God's people imitate David, who so respected God's choice of Saul that he preferred to be persecuted rather than do any harm to the Lord's anointed (1 Sm 24:14).
Prayer: Lord, may I walk by faith in You, not by sight (2 Cor 5:7).
Promise: "In the shadow of Your wings I take refuge, till harm pass by."-Ps 57:2
Praise: St. Vincent did not tickle ears in his teaching (2 Tm 4:3), but proclaimed the truth of God's Word and let it change hearts.

TRUE HUMILITY IS GLADNESS - One Bread, One Body, 1/21/2016
Thursday, January 21, 2016, St. Agnes
1 Samuel 18:6-9; 19:1-7, Psalm 56:2-3, 9-13, Mark 3:7-12

TRUE HUMILITY IS GLADNESS
"Saul was very angry and resentful of the song, for he thought: 'They give David ten thousands, but only thousands to me.' " -1 Samuel 18:8
King Saul won a great victory in battle through the catalyst of young David's courageous defeat of the fierce Goliath. When the cheerleaders greeted the victors with the fight song, Saul was given opening honors and credit for thousands (1 Sm 18:7). Because of his pride, however, all Saul could focus on was that David received more credit than he did (1 Sm 18:8). He was jealous of David and could feel no gladness that David, his courageous and faithful servant, received well-deserved acclaim. "The next day an evil spirit...came over Saul" (1 Sm 18:10) and ultimately Saul's pride and jealousy (1 Sm 18:9) led to his downfall.
St. John the Baptizer toiled for years in the desert to lead the Israelites to repentance and prepare the Lord's way. John's mission was gaining momentum, and many came to him to be baptized. Then Jesus came and people started flocking to Him rather than John (Jn 3:26). John was "overjoyed" (Jn 3:29) at Jesus' success. John saw himself as the "best man" (Jn 3:29), who stands happily forgotten at the altar while the groom, Jesus, is showered with attention. John's humility was not a self-pitying disappearing act that bites its tongue so as not to ruin the party. Rather, John was genuinely delighted to see Jesus prosper at the expense of his own popularity. He humbly exclaimed: "That is my joy, and it is complete. [Jesus] must increase, while I must decrease" (Jn 3:29-30). With John, let us gladly rejoice as we are humbled.
Prayer: Father, may I advance to the next level of true humility.
Promise: "In God I trust without fear; what can flesh do against me?" -Ps 56:12
Praise: Young St. Agnes was honored by the early Church fathers. Despite her young age of perhaps thirteen years, she faced her martyr's death with extreme calm when her vow to virginity was threatened.

THE ODD COUPLE - One Bread, One Body, 1/20/2016
Wednesday, January 20, 2016, Pope St. Fabian, St. Sebastian
1 Samuel 17:32-33, 37, 40-51, Psalm 144:1-2, 9-10, Mark 3:1-6

THE ODD COUPLE
"When the Pharisees went outside, they immediately began to plot with the Herodians how they might destroy [Jesus]." -Mark 3:6
What on earth were the Pharisees doing working together with the Herodians? The Herodians were supporters of King Herod and his policies. Herod was likely more concerned with currying the favor of Rome than of observing the laws and traditions of his Jewish roots. The Pharisees were Jews committed to following the Jewish laws. Jesus commented on the outstanding holiness of the Pharisees (Mt 5:20). The Herodians had compromised their Jewish faith and lifestyle; the Pharisees were known for their uncompromising devotion to God.
Two groups that might seem to have little in common found something to bring them together: their opposition to Jesus (Mk 3:6; see also Mt 22:15-16). Herod himself and Pontius Pilate, "who had previously been set against each other" (Lk 23:12), became friends once they had mocked and insulted Jesus.
Who do you think is the last person or group on earth that you would ever be associated with? Is there a group with a cause that makes you nauseous? If you "fall away from your sincere and complete devotion to Christ" (2 Cor 11:3), you might soon find yourself preferring to work with that group in opposing Jesus. This prefigures hell itself. Those in hell have chosen to spend eternity with hateful demons rather than be associated with Jesus. "Be on your guard" (Mk 13:5). Choose Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, keep me faithful to Your teaching and never let me be parted from You.
Promise: "His hand was perfectly restored." -Mk 3:5
Praise: Pope St. Fabian united laity and clergy and was an example of holiness to both.

A FRESH ANOINTING
"There - anoint him, for this is he!" -1 Samuel 16:12
Some of us are grieving. We are disappointed and listless. The Lord's word to us is: "Fill your horn with oil, and be on your way" (1 Sm 16:1). Although we may be grieving, let's not grieve the Holy Spirit (Eph 4:30). Rather, let's say with Jesus: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; therefore He has anointed me" (Lk 4:18). Let us receive a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit and anoint others with the power of the Spirit.
Are you disappointed with your spouse, job, parish, government, etc.? Don't just sit there spiritually paralyzed. You are Christians, followers of Christ, Whose name means "the Anointed One." Let God's anointing be renewed in your life. Then ask the Lord to show you someone you can anoint with the Holy Spirit. Maybe there is only one family member, parishioner, co-worker, or neighbor willing to receive your prayers for the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Maybe several people are open to the Spirit, but the Lord leads you to reach out to only a certain one (see 1 Sm 16:7ff). As Samuel ministered the Spirit to David, Ananias to Saul (Acts 9:17ff), Peter to Cornelius (Acts 10:25ff), and Paul to twelve Ephesians (Acts 19:2ff), so follow the Lord's lead and anoint someone with the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, as You anointed Jesus, anoint me with the Holy Spirit and power so I may go about doing good works and healing those in the grip of the devil (Acts 10:38).
Promise: "The Son of Man is Lord even of the sabbath." -Mk 2:28
Praise: Joan received the Holy Spirit and passed on the anointing to her husband.

PROUD OF YOUR SELF-HATRED?
"Stop! Let me tell you what the Lord said to me last night." -1 Samuel 15:16
Saul "erected a trophy in his own honor" (1 Sm 15:12), though he was little in his own esteem (1 Sm 15:17). People who are proud of themselves often hate themselves. Proud people act like gods, and of course they do a very poor imitation of God. So they hate themselves for failing. If they don't repent, they lie to themselves and others about failing. Then they hate themselves for being phonies. Proud people try to compensate for their failures by doing more of their own thing, disobeying the Lord, and thereby failing some more. This makes them bigger failures and probably bigger phonies.
If they don't repent, proud people come to hate themselves so much that they consider suicide and may even commit suicide, as Saul eventually did (1 Sm 31:4). The wages of pride are escalating disobediences, failures, self-hatred, and self-deceptions. "The wages of sin is death" (Rm 6:23) - self-imposed death.
Therefore, let us repent of pride and humble ourselves (Mt 23:12). We must come to Jesus and learn from Him, for He is "gentle and humble of heart" (Mt 11:29).
Prayer: Father, I choose to take "the lowest place" (Lk 14:10).
Promise: "No man pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does so, the wine will burst the skins and both wine and skins will be lost. No, new wine is poured into new skins." -Mk 2:22
Praise: Losing his job was a blessing for Bob's spiritual life, as he sought Jesus deeply and grew ever closer to Him.
(To grow in humility, read the Bible daily. PM eNewsletter 2nd Sunday in ordinary time
January 17th, The second Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, now that the new year has settled in, and all the celebrating is
over, let us realize that in You we always have the celebration of the mass
to look forward to.
Let us make the mass a time of praise and prayer, a time of adoration and
oneness with You.
Let us see in the breaking of the bread a love that we really can't
understand, but yet it is real.
Let us partake of the food of life, that feeds us, and prepares us for the
never ending mass of eternity.
Thank You for Your love.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday WHY PRAY?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/17/2016
"For Zion's sake I will not be silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not be
quiet, until her vindication shines forth like the dawn and her victory like
a burning torch." -Isaiah 62:1
At the wedding of Cana, Mary told Jesus: "They have no more wine" (Jn 2:3).
Jesus seemed to respond that He wasn't going to do anything about it because
His hour had not yet come (Jn 2:4). Then Jesus changed the water into wine
(Jn 2:9). Did Jesus change His mind? Did Mary talk or pray Jesus into
changing His mind? Can our prayers get God to do things for us?
The answer to these questions is "No." God doesn't change His mind
(see Mal 3:6), and we don't have to talk or pray God into doing things for
us. He loves us so much that He wants to do for us much more than we can ever
want done.
The purpose of this conversation between Mary and Jesus may be to show us the
importance and power of Mary's prayer and also of our prayers. Prayer is one
of our major ways of participating in God's plan. We are not just the
beneficiaries of the Lord's work; we are co-workers with Him (1 Cor 3:9). We
are not merely incidental to the Lord's work; we are so important that we can
even move up the timing of God's plan (see 2 Pt 3:12). Because the Lord has
chosen to make us important, our prayers are extremely important. Pray
accordingly.
Prayer: Father, teach me why I pray.
Promise: "It is one and the same Spirit Who produces all these gifts,
distributing them to each as He wills." -1 Cor 12:11
Praise: Praise You, All-holy Lord Jesus, risen Lord and King Who is to come!
All glory and honor belong to You.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
INDIFFERENCE AND PEACE
"NOT INDIFFERENT"
God is not indifferent! God cares about mankind! God does not abandon us! At
the beginning of the New Year, I would like to share not only this profound
conviction but also my cordial good wishes for prosperity, peace and the
fulfillment of the hopes of every man and every woman, every family, people
and nation throughout the world , including all Heads of State and Government
and all religious leaders.
GOD'S GIFT
Peace is both God's gift and a human achievement. As a gift of God, it is
entrusted to all men and women, who are called to attain it.
WITNESS TO MERCY
... With the present Jubilee of Mercy I want to invite the Church to pray and
work so that every Christian will have a humble and compassionate heart, one
capable of proclaiming and witnessing to mercy.
