"MERCY IS NOT STRAINED"
"Merciful and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in kindness." -Psalm 103:8
Abraham asked the Lord to spare the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah if there were ten innocent people in those cities (Gn 18:32). Yet the cities were destroyed by fire and brimstone because there were not ten innocent people in them, and possibly because Abraham stopped interceding for the inhabitants of these cities.
Abraham possibly stopped interceding because:
* He thought he had reached the limits of God's mercy. This was wrong because in the light of the new covenant we know the Lord's mercy is limitless.
* Abraham thought there were surely at least ten innocent people in these wicked cities, but he was wrong. Our sins are often worse than we think. We need God's mercy much more than we realize.
* Abraham had reached the limits of his own mercy. Abraham may have thought that if they were that evil, they deserved to die. Let us instead live by God's standards of mercy.
Abraham probably underestimated God's mercy and humanity's need for it. Let us learn from this. "Blest are they who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs" (Mt 5:7).
Prayer: Father, make me a messenger of Your unlimited mercy.
Promise: "A scribe approached Him and said, 'Teacher, wherever You go I will come after You.' Jesus said to him, 'The foxes have lairs, the birds in the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.' " -Mt 8:19-20
Praise: St. Junipero Serra was a Franciscan missionary from Spain, traveled from Mexico to California, and founded twelve missions. His motto was "Always forward, never back."
(Come study St. Paul's letter to the Colossians on July 12-14, or his letter to the Philippians on July 19-21. Paul's letters inspire us to this day to live a full Christian lifestyle in the Spirit. One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday "THE LAND OF THE FREE?"
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/30/2019
"You have been called to live in freedom." -Galatians 5:13
"It was for liberty that Christ freed us. So stand firm, and do not take on yourselves the yoke of
slavery a second time!" -Galatians 5:1
After we make the ultimate decision to convert, we spend all our time with the Lord and all our
lives for Him. Then we get to know the Lord personally, and it doesn't take us long to realize that
the Lord is preoccupied with our freedom. We should expect this because Jesus' mission is to set
the captives free (Lk 4:18). He died on the cross to free us from our sins, and He rose from the
dead to free us from Satan, the prince of death (see Heb 2:14). Only if Jesus frees us are we truly
free (Jn 8:36). Jesus is our Redeemer, Who has done everything necessary to free us.
Therefore, Jesus insists that we be free from unforgiveness, fear, self-hatred, and addictions to
everything from alcohol to TV, electronic devices, types of food, gambling, pornography, cigarettes,
caffeine, drugs, etc.
God the Father through Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to give us desires in opposition to our
fallen, addicted nature (Gal 5:17). By living our baptisms, that is, our lives in the Spirit, we
will be free.
Prayer: Father, free me from the culture of death. May I be always free in You.
Promise: "Jesus answered him, 'Whoever puts his hand to the plow but keeps looking back is unfit
for the reign of God.' " -Lk 9:62
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, "the First-Born of the dead" (Col 1:18).

END HUNGER
DON'T BE INDIFFERENT
... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves to
succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a
dignified life.
THE CHURCH AND THE POOR
For her part, the Catholic Church, in the exercise of the mission with which her divine Founder has
entrusted her, struggles daily throughout the world against hunger and malnutrition in multiple ways
and through her various structures and associations, remembering that those who suffer from misery are
not different from us. They share our flesh and blood. They deserve ... a friendly hand to help and
support them, in such a way that no one is left behind, so that in our world fraternal solidarity may
boast its own identity card and citizenship, beyond any flashy slogans void of substance.
"HOPES OF MILLIONS"
The annual celebration of World Food Day emphasizes ... the needs, yearnings and hopes of millions of
persons who lack bread each day. Increasingly, there are more people who sadly make up part of that
great number of human beings who have nothing, or almost nothing to eat. It should be the opposite and
yet recent statistics are a painful proof of how international solidarity appears to be cooling.

"THE LAND OF THE FREE?"
"You have been called to live in freedom." -Galatians 5:13
"It was for liberty that Christ freed us. So stand firm, and do not take on yourselves the yoke of slavery a second time!" -Galatians 5:1
After we make the ultimate decision to convert, we spend all our time with the Lord and all our lives for Him. Then we get to know the Lord personally, and it doesn't take us long to realize that the Lord is preoccupied with our freedom. We should expect this because Jesus' mission is to set the captives free (Lk 4:18). He died on the cross to free us from our sins, and He rose from the dead to free us from Satan, the prince of death (see Heb 2:14). Only if Jesus frees us are we truly free (Jn 8:36). Jesus is our Redeemer, Who has done everything necessary to free us.
Therefore, Jesus insists that we be free from unforgiveness, fear, self-hatred, and addictions to everything from alcohol to TV, electronic devices, types of food, gambling, pornography, cigarettes, caffeine, drugs, etc.
God the Father through Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to give us desires in opposition to our fallen, addicted nature (Gal 5:17). By living our baptisms, that is, our lives in the Spirit, we will be free.
Prayer: Father, free me from the culture of death. May I be always free in You.
Promise: "Jesus answered him, 'Whoever puts his hand to the plow but keeps looking back is unfit for the reign of God.' " -Lk 9:62
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, "the First-Born of the dead" (Col 1:18).

BUILD UP THE CHURCH - One Bread, One Body, 6/29/2019
Saturday, June 29, 2019, Sts. Peter & Paul
Acts 12:1-11, 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18, Psalm 34:2-9, Matthew 16:13-19

BUILD UP THE CHURCH
"Peter was thus detained in prison, while the church prayed fervently to God on his behalf." -Acts 12:5
Because Jesus is God and is Head of the Church, the Church is invincible. For example, Peter, the leader of the leaders of the early Church, was miraculously freed from "death row" shortly before King Herod had planned to execute him. Paul, the great missionary of the early Church, testified: "I was saved from the lion's jaws. The Lord will continue to rescue me from all attempts to do me harm and will bring me safe to His heavenly kingdom" (2 Tm 4:17-18). We, likewise, as members of the Church, "are more than conquerors because of Him Who has loved us" (Rm 8:37). The gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church (Mt 16:18).
Nonetheless, the Lord allows His Church to be persecuted. He even lets the members of His Church be martyred. Contrary to appearances, this does not mean that His Church is defeated and not invincible. Rather, it means that the Church is following in the footsteps of her crucified Head. "You can depend on this: If we have died with Him we shall also live with Him; if we hold out to the end we shall also reign with Him" (2 Tm 2:11-12).
Therefore, rejoice that the Lord has chosen you to be a member of His Body, the invincible, persecuted Church. Love the Church (Eph 5:25). Joyfully and humbly submit to the authority of the Church (see Heb 13:17). Invite as many people as possible to give themselves to Jesus and enter His Church. Take your part in the Church and thereby build the Church.
Prayer: Father, like Jesus may I lay down my life for the Church (Eph 5:25).
Promise: "The Lord stood by my side and gave me strength, so that through me the preaching task might be completed and all the nations might hear the gospel." -2 Tm 4:17
Praise: St. Paul had to fraternally correct St. Peter. This brotherly act helped heal the division between Jews and Gentiles (see Gal 2:11-21).

HIS HEART IS RUNNING - One Bread, One Body, 6/28/2019
Friday, June 28, 2019, Sacred Heart of Jesus
Ezekiel 34:11-16, Romans 5:5-11, Psalm 23:1-6, Luke 15:3-7

HIS HEART IS RUNNING
"It is precisely in this that God proves His love for us: that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." -Romans 5:8
God became incarnate. He became a man. "In Jesus Christ God not only speaks to man but also seeks him out. The Incarnation of the Son of God attests that God goes in search of man. Jesus speaks of this search as the finding of a lost sheep (cf Lk 15:1-7). It is a search which begins in the heart of God and culminates in the Incarnation of the Word" (Towards the Third Millennium, Pope St. John Paul II, 7). God is the Good Shepherd, humbling Himself to the point that He runs after and pursues His lost sheep. The all-holy, almighty God empties Himself (see Phil 2:7) and chases after mere human beings. This humble love of God is revealed in the prophetic vision of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In imitation of the incarnate Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and His Sacred Heart, let us:
* humbly chase after sinners to show God's love for them,
* wash the feet of others (see Jn 13:4ff),
* open and expose our hearts to others (see 2 Cor 6:11-13), even in crucified vulnerability, and
* lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters in Christ and even for our enemies (1 Jn 3:16).
Jesus commanded and promised: "Take My yoke upon your shoulders and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart" (Mt 11:29). Learn not only to love the Sacred Heart of Jesus but also to love as the Sacred Heart loves.
Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, on this day devoted to prayer for the holiness of priests, I ask for Your mercy. I put my trust in You.
Promise: "The love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us." -Rm 5:5
Praise: The Sacred Heart of Jesus burns with love for you. Sacred Heart of Jesus, "all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine."

AUTHORITATIVE - One Bread, One Body, 6/27/2019
Thursday, June 27, 2019, St. Cyril of Alexandria
Genesis 16:1-12, 15-16, Psalm 106:1-5, Matthew 7:21-29
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062719.cfm
AUTHORITATIVE
"The reason was that He taught with authority and not like their scribes." -Matthew 7:29
The religious leaders of Jesus' day did not teach with authority as He did. They informed, educated, and enlightened people, but they didn't always expect the people to respond and obey. Jesus did. He warned us not to give lip-service to God's Word and nullify the commandments (Mt 15:3-8). Jesus said that if we didn't hear His words and put them into practice, our lives would collapse (Mt 7:26-27). He clearly expected us to be doers of the Word (Jas 1:22). He taught with authority, and He's the same today (Heb 13:8).
When Jesus does anything, He does it as Lord, and the nature of lordship is to command and call for obedience. Look at the readings in the previous few pages of this book. Did you take Jesus at His Word? Did you accept Him as Lord? Did you respond to Jesus' authority with obedience and submission? It matters not how much of the Bible we know, but how much of it we obey. It's not those who say "Lord, Lord" but those who obey "Lord, Lord" that will enter God's kingdom (Mt 7:21).
Prayer: Lord, I submit my life and will to You.
Promise: "The Lord has heard you, God has answered you." -Gn 16:11
Praise: St. Cyril of Alexandria played a key leadership role in the Council of Ephesus (431 A.D.). The Council battled against the Nestorian heresy and declared Mary to be Theotokos (Mother of God).

THE REWARD OF FAITH - One Bread, One Body, 6/26/2019
Wednesday, June 26, 2019
Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18, Psalm 105:1-4, 6-9, Matthew 7:15-20

THE REWARD OF FAITH
"I will make your reward very great." -Genesis 15:1
God had asked Abram to leave his homeland at age seventy-five and follow Him to an unknown land. Abram did as God asked. After he had spent "some time" in that land (Gn 15:1), God unexpectedly promised him a great reward (Gn 15:1).
The Lord often speaks of the rewards of obedient faith:
* "Do not, then, surrender your confidence; it will have great reward" (Heb 10:35).
* "Look out that you...do not lose what you have worked for; you must receive your reward in full" (2 Jn 8).
* "God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him by your service, past and present, to His holy people" (Heb 6:10).
* "Your Father Who sees in secret will repay you" (Mt 6:4).
* "Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is great in heaven" (Mt 5:12).
* "He rewards those who seek Him" (Heb 11:6).
What kind of reward will we receive for our obedient faith and loving service of God? Some indications are found elsewhere in Scripture: "My heart is set on fulfilling Your statutes; they are my reward forever" (Ps 119:112, RNAB). "My reward is with the Lord, my recompense is with my God" (Is 49:4; 62:11).
Near the end of his life, St. Thomas Aquinas had a vision and heard the Lord ask him, "What reward do you desire for all your service to Me?" Thomas responded, "None but Thyself, O Lord." With St. Thomas, may we set our hearts on this greatest Reward.
Prayer: Father, You are my Prize, my Delight, my Reward!
Promise: "Glory in His holy name; rejoice, O hearts that seek the Lord!" -Ps 105:3
Praise: Albert prayed for his grandmother to return to the Church for thirty years. She returned on her deathbed.

STRAIGHT STREET (ACTS 9:11)
"How narrow is the gate that leads to life, how rough the road, and how few there are who find it!" -Matthew 7:14
The homilist at this morning's Mass gave a vivid example from his childhood of following the narrow way. In his youth, his scout troop was holding a skills contest. One of the skills involved riding a bicycle along a straight and thin line. To succeed in the contest, the bicyclist had to keep his wheels on the line.
When he focused on keeping the bike's wheels on the line, his wheels invariably strayed off in one direction or the other. He was getting frustrated by his inability to control his path exactly. The scout leader pulled him aside and advised him to focus ahead on the finish line instead of looking down at the line, and to also approach the start of the line with a bit of speed. To his amazement, he discovered that by looking at the goal with some forward momentum, he actually stayed on the line and found success.
This is an apt analogy for the Christian life. When we "keep our eyes fixed on Jesus" (Heb 12:2) and continue moving toward Him each day with our entire attention on the finish line (Phil 3:14), we can stay on the narrow path because Jesus draws us irresistibly to Himself (Jn 12:32). When we take our eyes off Jesus to focus on our own efforts and look at the path instead of the Lord of the path, we stray off the narrow way (see Lk 9:62). "Fix your eyes on Jesus" (Heb 3:1) and draw near to Him.
Prayer: Father, "draw [me] with human cords, with bands of love" (Hos 11:4).
Promise: "He who does these things shall never be disturbed." -Ps 15:5
Praise: Trusting in the Lord to change hearts made Thomas a much better evangelizer.

A "DEAR JOHN" LETTER - One Bread, One Body, 6/24/2019
Monday, June 24, 2019, Birth of St. John the Baptizer
Isaiah 49:1-6, Acts 13:22-26, Psalm 139:1-3, 13-15, Luke 1:57-66, 80
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062419.cfm
A "DEAR JOHN" LETTER
"The Lord called me from birth, from my mother's womb He gave me my name." -Isaiah 49:1
Scientists talk about the genetic code which determines the physiological characteristics a pre-born baby will manifest. The child in the womb will possess the physical traits programmed into the DNA of the fetal cells. Christians refer to the lifelong calling of God made known not only to the child in the womb (Is 49:1; Ps 139:13-15), but even before the earth was formed (Eph 1:4-5).
St. John the Baptizer was "filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb" (Lk 1:15). While still in the womb, John began his prophetic ministry of heralding the coming of Jesus (Acts 13:24), leaping for joy at the sound of the voice of the mother of his Lord (Lk 1:41). At John's birth, a miraculous healing occurred (Lk 1:64), and God received much glory (Lk 1:64, 67ff). The hearts of many were turned to the Lord even before John grew to adulthood (see Lk 1:65-66).
Each person shares the mission of John the Baptizer: to prepare the way of the Lord for some individual or group of people (Mt 3:3). You might have been an unwanted child, but God wanted you and has an important plan for you (Heb 11:40; Eph 2:10). God knows you intimately (Ps 139:1-5) and has "called you by name" (Is 43:1). In Jesus, you are greater than John the Baptizer (Mt 11:11). Therefore, lead others to Jesus, the Lamb of God (Jn 1:36-37).
Prayer: Jesus, may You increase and I decrease (Jn 3:30).
Promise: "I will make you a light to the nations, that My salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." -Is 49:6
Praise: The birth of St. John the Baptizer heralded the birth of Jesus and the spiritual rebirth of mankind. Ever humble, he said that he was not worthy to loosen Jesus' sandal strap. He told his followers that he must grow lesser so Jesus could grow more.

PM eNewsletter Body and Blood of Christ
June 23rd Body and Blood of Christ
Jesus, praise and glorify You always.
You gave us a gift beyond compare, You gave us Your Body and Blood so that we may have the real
food of eternal life.
You told us that You would be with us always and so You are in the beautiful sacrament of the
Eucharist.
You ask us to receive You in as purified a condition as we can be, so that we can share in You in
an intimate way, that causes us to have You, God, inside us.
Jesus open our hearts that we may truly see You in the breaking of the bread, and come and adore
You with contrite hearts.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday GOD BROKEN-HEARTED AGAIN
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=6/23/2019
"The Lord Jesus on the night in which He was betrayed took bread, and after He had given thanks, broke
it and said, 'This is My body, which is for you.' " -1 Corinthians 11:23-24
At the Last Supper, Jesus first gave us His Body and Blood on the night He was betrayed. This was a
harbinger of Masses to come. Jesus' greatest gift, the gift of His own Body and Blood, is often
rejected when we refuse to believe in the Eucharist or when we have attitudes of selfishness at Mass.
How heartbreaking to Jesus when He sees us trying to make the Mass fit conveniently into our lives
rather than radically transforming our lives to center them on our Eucharistic Lord!
Jesus is the most rejected, divorced, and abused Person Who has ever lived. Yet He keeps coming back
for more. He makes Himself so vulnerable when He faithfully and constantly changes bread and wine into
His Body and Blood. However, Jesus exposes His broken heart to further brokenness because He is God,
Who is Love (1 Jn 4:8, 16). Love loves unconditionally. Love loves even if hated and crucified in
return.
On this solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, decide to accept the grace to love our Eucharistic
Jesus. Offer your body as a living sacrifice (Rm 12:1) so that His Body and Blood will no longer be
disbelieved, ignored, and pushed even further into the margins of so many people's lives. Make
reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Prayer: Jesus, give me the grace to be willing to suffer anything so as to never reject You.
Promise: "Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish, Jesus raised His eyes to heaven, pronounced a
blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to His disciples for distribution to the crowd. They all
ate until they had enough." -Lk 9:16-17
Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, who shed His last drop of blood that we may be set free.

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
https://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-11.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
END HUNGER
"WE MUST DO BETTER"
We are all called to go further. We can and we must do better for the helpless. We must move to
concrete action, so that the scourge of hunger disappears completely.
WE CAN DO IT
We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become
an action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this
end we need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the
other's problems one's own.
"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"
There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and
this ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all
religious persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and
consists in "doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."

Love loves even if hated and crucified in
return.

ARE YOU THE WEAK LINK? - One Bread, One Body, 6/22/2019
Saturday, June 22, 2019, St. Paulinus of Nola,, St. John Fisher &, St. Thomas More
2 Corinthians 12:1-10, Psalm 34:8-13, Matthew 6:24-34
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062219.cfm
ARE YOU THE WEAK LINK?
"I will do no boasting about myself unless it be about my weaknesses." -2 Corinthians 12:5
St. Paul had been "snatched up to the third heaven" (2 Cor 12:2). He was transported "to Paradise to hear words which cannot be uttered, words which no man may speak" (2 Cor 12:4). Despite these "extraordinary revelations" (2 Cor 12:7), Paul did not base his evangelization on the glory of heaven; instead he focused on the weakness and scandal of the cross (1 Cor 2:2).
In today's society, St. Paul would be inundated with movie offers, book contracts, speaking tours, and interviews to expound upon his heavenly experiences. Who wouldn't want to hear a description of heaven? Paul had a powerful witness that would attract many. Why wouldn't he want to pass on that Good News?
Paul knew that even a powerful witness like the experience of heaven couldn't match the power in the weakness of suffering, "for in weakness power reaches perfection" (2 Cor 12:9). So he willingly boasted of his "weaknesses instead, that the power of Christ may rest upon" him (2 Cor 12:9).
What is your weakness? Are you physically limited, fatigued by caring for young babies or aged parents, in danger from persecution, under attack for your stand for life, alone and unsupported in your faith? Are you constrained by obstacles which seemingly prevent you from moving in power? (see 2 Cor 12:7) If so, you have more power than ever before. In your weakness, God is with you and His power is upon you.
Prayer: Father, Your grace is enough for me (2 Cor 12:9).
Promise: "Enough, then, of worrying about tomorrow. Let tomorrow take care of itself." -Mt 6:34
Praise: St. Thomas More was beheaded for not supporting King Henry VIII. In 2000, Pope St. John Paul II named him the patron of political leaders.

INSANITY BEGINS WITH "I" - One Bread, One Body, 6/21/2019
Friday, June 21, 2019, St. Aloysius Gonzaga
2 Corinthians 11:18, 21-30, Psalm 34:2-7, Matthew 6:19-23
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/062119.cfm
INSANITY BEGINS WITH "I"
"I am talking like an insane person." -2 Corinthians 11:23, RNAB
St. Paul founded the church at Corinth. After he left Corinth, various false apostles passed through town. These traveling preachers built up their own ministries (and their wallets) by pointing to their own "impressive" credentials rather than pointing to Jesus. By comparing Paul unfavorably to themselves, they undermined his position as father of the church in Corinth. More important in Paul's eyes, they were undermining the true gospel and leading people away from the Lord (2 Cor 11:3ff).
The Corinthians, in their foolishness, demanded that Paul once again "prove" his apostleship. In today's first reading, Paul sarcastically "stoops" to their level in defense of the gospel he preached. Notice that Paul uses the word "I" eighteen times. To Paul, this emphasis on self is "insane" (2 Cor 11:23). To be insane is to be completely out of touch with reality. The ultimate reality is that Jesus is Lord of heaven and earth (1 Cor 12:3). Everything in heaven revolves around Him (see Rv 4:8ff). The angels revolve around Him (Jn 1:51). Likewise, the earth, since it belongs to God (Ps 24:1), was created to revolve around the Son.
My mother was fond of saying, "The earth doesn't revolve around me." To St. Paul, this is the beginning of sanity. When we take our "eyes" off of "I" and fix them on Jesus (see Heb 12:2), our eyes are sound (Mt 6:22) and we are sane.
Die to "I" (see Lk 9:23). Live for Jesus (2 Cor 5:15).
Prayer: Father, I will gaze on Your loveliness forever (Ps 27:4).
Promise: "Look to Him that you may be radiant with joy, and your faces may not blush with shame." -Ps 34:6
Praise: St. Aloysius Gonzaga was called to a life devoted to Jesus at the age of seven. Even though he had a place in the court of Phillip II, he became a Jesuit, ministered to the sick, became sick himself and died at the age of twenty-three.
(This teaching was submitted by a member of our editorial team.)

LIVING IN A DANGEROUS NEIGHBORHOOD
"My fear is that, just as the serpent seduced Eve by his cunning, your thoughts may be corrupted and you may fall away from your sincere and complete devotion to Christ." -2 Corinthians 11:3
In the first century, the city of Corinth was a cesspool of promiscuity, violence, and occult practices. The culture was sophisticated and secular humanistic, as is our culture of death today. St. Paul was very concerned that the Corinthian Christians would let their thoughts be corrupted from their sincere and complete devotion to Christ (2 Cor 11:3). Paul recognized that the Corinthian Christians were easily deceived into accepting false teaching (2 Cor 11:3-4). He considered this a danger sign that they could soon lose their faith.
In our Western world, we live in a society similar to Corinth. Christians in our society are not only in danger of falling away from the faith but have already fallen away in great numbers. Before the end of the world, the present apostasy will become much worse (2 Thes 2:3). These are warnings that we could lose our love for the Lord (see Mt 24:12).
"For all these reasons, let anyone who thinks he is standing upright watch out lest he fall!" (1 Cor 10:12) Take care "lest any of you have an evil and unfaithful spirit and fall away from the living God" (Heb 3:12). "We are not among those who draw back and perish, but among those who have faith and live" (Heb 10:39).
Prayer: Father, may I die for You rather than deny You in any way.
Promise: "If you forgive the faults of others, your heavenly Father will forgive you yours. If you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive you." -Mt 6:14-15
Praise: Mark and Theresa work to spread the truth of the Theology of the Body.

WHOLE-LIFE GENEROSITY - One Bread, One Body, 6/19/2019

WHOLE-LIFE GENEROSITY
"He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully." -2 Corinthians 9:6
Our giving in response to God's call involves so much more than being generous on the day of giving. We can write a generous check to a charity and never think about them before or after the gift. Alternatively, we can pray for discernment beforehand and pray for that charitable ministry afterward. This makes our gift even more fruitful.
"In seedtime the sluggard plows not; when he looks for the harvest, it is not there" (Prv 20:4). The sluggard was not totally lazy, for he did go out and sow seed in the field. We know this because he took the effort to go out and look for a harvest. However, he didn't put in the time to do the plowing. Perhaps he had plowed last year and hoped that he would still get a harvest, despite skipping a step this year. Possibly he waited till the last minute to do the plowing but bad weather prevented it. Or perhaps he was simply lazy and didn't get around to it, hoping that he would get a good harvest anyway. The message is that merely sowing seed is not as effective as doing the full measure of diligent, "whole-life generosity."
Let's not limit our giving to a one-time act of charity. Rather, give everything generously. Plow and pray beforehand; pray and follow-up afterward. Be bountiful in giving your whole-life generously and reap an abundant harvest for the Lord.
Prayer: Father, help me live and give abundantly, to the full (Jn 10:10). May I pour out my life to the last drop for You.
Promise: "He will multiply the seed you sow and increase your generous yield." -2 Cor 9:10
Praise: St. Romuald answered the call to live as a hermit, but continued to join nearby Benedictine monks in liturgical prayer.

RICH PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY'RE POOR - One Bread, One Body, 6/18/2019

RICH PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY'RE POOR
"You are well acquainted with the favor shown by our Lord Jesus Christ: how for your sake He made Himself poor though He was rich, so that you might become rich by His poverty." -2 Corinthians 8:9
What if a person was rich but didn't know it? He may unnecessarily deprive himself, his family, or others of basic necessities. It is even possible for a rich man to starve to death, if he didn't know he was rich. Do you know that "for your sake [Jesus] made Himself poor though He was rich, so that you might become rich by His poverty"? (2 Cor 8:9) St. Paul prayed: "May He enlighten your innermost vision that you may know...the wealth of His glorious heritage to be distributed among the members of the church" (Eph 1:18). Our "riches in Christ" (Phil 4:19) are "unfathomable" (Eph 3:8). Therefore, it can be difficult for us to know how rich we are or even whether we are rich.
Nevertheless, we must know our great wealth in Christ. Because Sts. Peter and John knew their wealth, they instantly healed a man who had been lame from birth (see Acts 3:6ff). Because the Macedonian Christians knew their wealth even in the midst of deep material poverty, they were able to contribute generously to a collection through which the lives of starving Jewish Christians were saved (see 2 Cor 8:1ff). Those who know their wealth in Christ (see Phil 3:8) see their loaves and fish multiplied to feed large numbers of people (see Mt 14:19ff). We have the wealth to make disciples of all nations (see Mt 28:19). If we only knew it!
Believe the Lord when He tells you in His Word that you are wealthy. When you believe, you will discover the wealth you have had since you were baptized. "You are rich" (Rv 2:9).
Prayer: Father, I don't need more material wealth, but give me a deeper faith in You.
Promise: "Be made perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." -Mt 5:48
Praise: Martha got countless brothers and sisters when she came into the Church.

THE ONLY LIFE WORTH LIVING - One Bread, One Body, 6/17/2019

2 Corinthians 6:1-10, Psalm 98:1-4, Matthew 5:38-42

THE ONLY LIFE WORTH LIVING
"In all that we do we strive to present ourselves as ministers of God." -2 Corinthians 6:4
I hope you have made the decision of a lifetime and have decided to live for Jesus and work for Him full-time. If you are a housewife, plumber, garbageman, teacher, elected official, etc., and are serving Jesus full-time, your life is truly worthwhile, challenging, and indescribably joyous. You live "with patient endurance amid trials, difficulties, distresses, beatings, imprisonments, and riots; as men familiar with hard work, sleepless nights, and fastings" (2 Cor 6:4-5). By the power of the Holy Spirit, you have "innocence, knowledge, and patience" (2 Cor 6:6); with "weapons of righteousness with right hand and left" (2 Cor 6:7), you are even privileged to be a threat to the devil.
In Jesus, you are living such a radically new life that your life transcends typical categories. You are dying to self and thereby fully alive (see 2 Cor 6:9). You rejoice always (Phil 4:4), simultaneously suffering frequent sorrows (see 2 Cor 6:10). By the world's standards, you have nothing while in fact you possess everything (2 Cor 6:10), as Christ is your Treasure.
How glorious is our life in Jesus! One day in His service is better than a thousand elsewhere (see Ps 84:11). In joyful thanksgiving, serve and worship Jesus forever!
Prayer: Father, put a smile on my face and joy in my heart forever.
Promise: "You have heard the commandment, 'An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.' But what I say to you is: offer no resistance to injury. When a person strikes you on the right cheek, turn and offer him the other." -Mt 5:38-39
Praise: When his wife died William pursued a call to the priesthood and became a priest.
