June 9th, Pentecost Sunday
Today, oh! Christ, we celebrate the birth of the Church through Your gift of the Holy Spirit.
Let the tongues of fire that came upon the Apostles, and disciples in the upper room, descend on us,
so that we too will stand up and proclaim Your love to all the children of the Father.
Let the Holy Spirit renew us, and let the Spirit fill our hearts, and set them on fire with Your love.
Send forth Your Spirit, oh! Heavenly Father, and we shall be recreated.
You, oh! Spirit, who are God, will renew the face of the earth.
Let Your Church enter into a new program of loving all peoples, and let us be tools of the Holy Spirit,
so that we can be on fire with love.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday PENTECOSTS PAST AND PRESENT

"When the day of Pentecost came it found them gathered in one place." -Acts 2:1
One-hundred-and-twenty of Jesus' disciples had been devoting themselves to constant prayer for nine
days (Acts 1:14). As they began praying at about 9 AM on the tenth day, "suddenly from up in the
sky there came a noise like a strong, driving wind" (Acts 2:2). After the Holy Spirit introduced
Himself audibly, He manifested Himself visibly when "tongues as of fire appeared" (Acts 2:3). These
exterior manifestations indicated interior transformations in the hearts of Jesus' disciples
(see Acts 15:9). Then they spoke from the abundance of their hearts (see Lk 6:45) and "began to
express themselves in foreign tongues and make bold proclamation as the Spirit prompted them"
(Acts 2:4). This was only the beginning. After Peter preached and prophesied, these disciples
reached 3,000 people with the Gospel of Jesus, and those 3,000 were baptized that very day(Acts 2:41).
Will Pentecost today be like the first Christian Pentecost? Many people, even Christians, think
Pentecost was in the past and is not for the present. Others believe new Pentecosts happen today
but only rarely. However, the Church has always taught that we celebrate the events of salvation
history not merely to think of the past but to experience and fulfill these events in the present.
Jesus promised that if we believed in Him, we would do greater works than He did (Jn 14:12).
Therefore, expect a new Pentecost today - greater than ever before.
Prayer: Father, on this Pentecost may I expect You to love me as Your child.
Promise: " 'Peace be with you,' He said again. 'As the Father has sent Me, so I send you.' Then He
breathed on them and said: 'Receive the Holy Spirit.' " -Jn 20:21-22
Praise: Come, Holy Spirit! Blessed be the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Bible Telephone Line
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 27 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the
daily Mass. It is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer
request which will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day on a separate line.

END HUNGER
WE CAN DO IT
We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become
an action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this
end we need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the
other's problems one's own.
"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"
There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and
this ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all
religious persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and
consists in "doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."
DON'T BE INDIFFERENT
... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves
to succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a
dignified life.
