Jesus, here we are in a lazy time of the year, with the hot
weather, and the long bright days.
But Jesus, never let us be lazy to loving You with all that
we are.
Never let us be complacent, and forget to come and sit
with You in Your Blessed Sacrament.
We must continue to always grow in You, or we slip
slowly away.
We must constantly make you the focus of all that we
are, or we will enter into the ways of the world.
Lord, help us to keep focusing on the true Way of life, You.
Let us all receive that gift of peace that You give, and let
that peace flow from adoring You in the Eucharist. Amen and Amen
Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday IMPOSSIBLE CHRISTIANITY

"Come to Me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome,
and I will refresh you." —Matthew 11:28
The Lord has made living the Christian life humanly impossible.
We must be made perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect
(Mt 5:48). We must become holy in every aspect of our
conduct (1 Pt 1:15) or we will not see God (Heb 12:14), that
is, we will not see Jesus face to face in heaven (see 1
Cor 13:12). Furthermore, we must be compassionate as
our Father is compassionate (Lk 6:36) and pure as Jesus
is pure (1 Jn 3:3). If we fall into sin on one point of God's law,
we become guilty on all counts (Jas 2:10).
Because living the Christian life is humanly impossible, most
people don't even try. Some are honest enough to admit that
they don't try. Others try to water down Christianity to make
it more humanly possible, and then rationalize their
lukewarmness (see Rv 3:16). Some even try to live
Christianity by their own power. They eventually get frustrated
and burn out. At this point, they are tempted to dismiss
Christianity completely. Instead, they should come to Jesus
and learn from Him (Mt 11:28-29). Jesus will teach us that
Christianity is not a do-it-yourself religion, but one in which
we let it be done to us (see Lk 1:38). Then the burden of
Christianity, while still humanly impossible, is easy and light (Mt
11:30).

The Lord commands us to set our "hearts on spiritual gifts
— above all, the gift of prophecy" (1 Cor 14:1). We may or
may not have the gift of prophecy but we are obligated to
seek it eagerly. Prophecy is part of the foundation of the
Church (Eph 2:20). He or she "who prophesies builds up
the Church" (1 Cor 14:4). A prophet speaks to the Church
for its upbuilding, encouragement, and consolation (1 Cor
14:3). Prophecy is one of the ministries that equips the
saints to build up the body of Christ (Eph 4:11-12).
"Without prophecy the people become demoralized" (Prv
29:18). "Indeed, the Lord God does nothing without
revealing His plan to His servants, the prophets" (Am 3:7).
Without a prophet, we don't know what to do (1 Mc 4:46).
Without prophecy, we remain dead, dry bones (Ez 37:4).
If we despise prophecy, we stifle the Spirit (1 Thes 5:19-20).
"Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets!"
(Nm 11:29) Would that all the people at least seek above
all the gift of prophecy!
