THE RELATIONSHIP

Jesus "entered the house of Simon and Andrew." -Mark 1:29

Sometimes we read the Gospels, and we wish we were there in person. Imagine Jesus entering your house, grasping your hand, and healing you (see Mk 1:31). What a thrill to personally see Jesus healing the sick and expelling demons! Don't you want to look into Jesus' eyes, hear His voice, touch Him, and be touched by Him?

Some of these things will have to wait until we go to heaven. Nonetheless, right now we can have a relationship with Jesus much more intimate than was possible for the apostles. Simon and Andrew received Jesus into their home; we are God's home. He literally lives within us (see Jn 14:23; 1 Cor 6:19). The apostles ate with Jesus; in Holy Communion, we receive the body and blood of Jesus as our Food (Jn 6:55). When Jesus walked the earth, only a few people could touch Him and only occasionally. Now by faith we can all touch Jesus anytime and always, because He is always with us (Mt 28:20).

Before Jesus ascended, He said it was much better for us that He go (Jn 16:7). This is literally true. He has provided for all of us to be closer than close to Him. We can live in His love (Jn 15:9).

Prayer: Jesus, may my relationship with You be the deepest, most intimate relationship of my life.

Promise: "Since the children are men of blood and flesh, Jesus likewise had a full share in ours, that by His death He might rob the devil, the prince of death, of his power, and free those who through fear of death had been slaves their whole life long." -Heb 2:14-15

Praise: Marie wears a ring as a constant reminder of her wholehearted commitment to Jesus.

"COMPLETE IN CHRIST" (Col 1:28) - One Bread, One Body, 1/11/2011

Hebrews 2:5-12, Psalm 8:2, 5-9, Mark 1:21-28

"COMPLETE IN CHRIST" (Col 1:28)

"In subjecting all things to Him, God left nothing unsubjected. At present we do not see all things thus subject, but we do see Jesus crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death." -Hebrews 2:8-9

The more complete our relationship with Jesus is, the better our lives. If we don't believe in Jesus as God, we have missed out on life (1 Jn 5:12). If we haven't let ourselves experience Jesus as Man, we lose out on love. If we know Jesus as Healer but not Savior, we will be the healthiest people in hell. If we know Him as Lord but not Healer, we are saved but have not accepted all the benefits of salvation.

Jesus has revealed Himself in such fullness not merely for information's sake but for practical reasons. The devil will exploit any gaps in our relationship with Jesus. We must "grasp fully, with all the holy ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love" (Eph 3:18). Every title and characteristic of Jesus is a revelation of immeasurable, practical significance.

The Lord warned us: "My people perish for want of knowledge!" (Hos 4:6) But if we know Jesus personally and fully we will inherit the Lord's promise: "There shall be no harm or ruin on all My holy mountain; for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the Lord, as water covers the sea" (Is 11:9).

Prayer: "Jesus, name above all names, beautiful Savior, glorious Lord; Emmanuel, God-is-with-us, blessed Redeemer, living Word."

Promise: "At that the unclean spirit convulsed the man violently and with a loud shriek came out of him." -Mk 1:26

Praise: Gert has continued to experience great spiritual healings, precious woundings of the heart, the longer she walks with Jesus.

GONE FISHIN' - One Bread, One Body, 1/10/2011

GONE FISHIN'

"Jesus said to them, 'Come after Me; I will make you fishers of men.' " -Mark 1:17

Have you gone fishing yet this year? The Lord wants you to fish for men and women every day. Fishing, as Jesus knew it, was more a matter of repeated effort than skill. Fishers needed skill to know where and when to fish, but mostly it took just plain hard work. Fishing in Jesus' day had nothing to do with bait, reels, or poles. Fishing was simply throwing a heavy net into the sea and dragging it back. The more times they cast the net and the longer they worked, the better their chances were of catching fish. Fishing was basically long hours of hard manual labor.

Fishing for men and women (evangelizing) is similar. We don't need to be smart or articulate. We just need to work daily, frequently, and repeatedly to lead others to Christ. If you keep throwing the net, Jesus will provide the fish. Those who fish a lot catch a lot of fish.

Prayer: Father, may my love for You inspire me to work hard at fishing for the souls of men and women.

Promise: "In times past, God spoke in fragmentary and varied ways to our fathers through the prophets; in this, the final age, He has spoken to us through His Son." -Heb 1:1-2

Praise: Monthly Confession keeps Stephen on track toward heaven.

PM eNewsletter The baptism of the Lord

January 9th The baptism of the Lord

Jesus, give power to our baptisms, You let Yourself be baptised.

Hence forth, baptism frees us of the effects of original sin and makes
us truly children of God, heirs of heaven.

Because of baptism, we have eternal life, and someday when this
human body fails, and we die, we immediately come to receive a
judgment by You.

Thank You Jesus, for Your plan of love, and thank You for dying that
all sin would forever be forgivin, if only we confess to a priest.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday ON THE LAST DAY OF CHRISTMAS
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=1/9/2011

"Immediately on coming up out of the water He saw the sky rent in two
and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove." -Mark 1:10

The Church waits until the last day of the Christmas season to pray for
us to receive the Christmas Spirit, the Holy Spirit. As the Spirit came to
Jesus at the River Jordan, so we can receive the Spirit today in a new
way, if only we thirst for Him (Jn 7:37).

The Lord wants to give us the Spirit much more than we want to receive
Him. Therefore, the purpose of all these days of Christmas is to increase
our desire for and openness to the Spirit. We may not want the Holy
Spirit of Christmas because in the Spirit we cannot do our own thing.
The Spirit will lead us out of a life of selfishness, isolation, petty
pleasures, and slavery, and into a life of service, evangelization,
persecution, and freedom. The Spirit will lead us into the desert where
we will fight Satan and emerge victorious (Lk 4:1).

If we receive the Holy Spirit, our whole lives will be different and our
new year will be truly "new." On this last day of the Christmas season,
trust your Father with your life and your lifestyle so as to receive the
Holy Spirit of Christmas.

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE

"GREAT RESPONSIBILITY"

With feeling and gratitude, let us be aware of the value of every
person's incomparable dignity and of our great responsibility to all.

A NEW WAY OF SEEING

Believing in Jesus Christ ... means seeing man in a new way, with
trust and hope ... The human being is a good in himself and his
integral development must always be sought.

CONCERN FOR WEAK AND POOR

Love for all, ... if it is sincere, tends spontaneously to become
preferential attention to the weakest and poorest. This explains the
Church's concern for the unborn, the frailest, those most threatened
by the selfishness of adults and the clouding of consciences.

THE HUMBLE SPIRIT - One Bread, One Body, 1/8/2011

Saturday, January 8, 2011

1 John 5:14-21, Psalm 149:1-6, 9, John 3:22-30
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/nab/010811.shtml

THE HUMBLE SPIRIT

"The Groom's best man waits there listening for Him and is overjoyed to hear His voice." -John 3:29

Tomorrow we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus, the last day of the Christmas season. This can literally be one of the most important and precious days of our lives. Throughout this Christmas season, the Lord has given us countless opportunities to let Him transform our hearts. Our hearts may now be open to the Lord in a new and more humble way.

Humility is the key to receiving the Holy Spirit in a new way tomorrow. We must say with John the Baptizer: "He (Jesus) must increase, while I must decrease" (Jn 3:30). When John was asked who he was, he could have truthfully answered: "I am the greatest man ever born" (see Mt 11:11). Yet, John was humble enough to claim to be only "a voice in the desert" (Jn 1:23).

Before Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and conceived Jesus, she humbly called herself "the handmaid of the Lord" (Lk 1:38, JB). She could have claimed to be the mother of God and the most blessed woman of all times (see Lk 1:48).

Jesus humbled Himself before the Spirit descended on Him. Jesus "appeared before John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. John tried to refuse Him with the protest, 'I should be baptized by You, yet You come to me!' Jesus answered: 'Give in for now. We must do this if we would fulfill all of God's demands' " (Mt 3:13-15). Let us likewise approach tomorrow's feast with humility. Let us receive the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Father, may I humble myself (Mt 23:12) as Your Son did at Bethlehem in the manger.

Promise: "Anyone who sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, should petition God, and thus life will be given to the sinner." -1 Jn 5:16

Praise: Seeing Jesus work through him to minister to others has humbled David to want to receive more of His love.

THE JANUARY BLUES

"Great crowds gathered to hear Him and to be cured of their maladies." -Luke 5:15

With only three more days left in the Christmas season, we may feel that Christmas has passed us by. We may have had high hopes for Christmas yet been disappointed. We may feel rejected and sinking deeper into a cold January depression. Nonetheless, the Lord has saved the best of Christmas till last (see Jn 2:10). We can receive the full glory of Christmas at the end of the Christmas season even if we've messed up Christmas so far (see Mt 20:12).

We must be like the "man full of leprosy," come to Jesus, bow down to the ground, and say: "Lord, if You will to do so, You can cure me" (Lk 5:12). Jesus will stretch out His hand to touch us (Lk 5:13). We will be cured, receive Christ, have Christmas, and be empowered for the new year.

"The testimony is this: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever possesses the Son possesses life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not possess life. I have written this to you to make you realize that you possess eternal life - you who believe in the name of the Son of God" (1 Jn 5:11-13).

Prayer: Jesus, if not for You...

Promise: "Who, then, is conqueror of the world? The one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." -1 Jn 5:5

Praise: St. Raymond heeded God's call and at age forty-seven became a Dominican.

(For a related teaching, order our tape "The Necessity of Confession for Renewal" on audio AV 70-1 or video V-70.)
