THANK YOU, JESUS!

"Where are the other nine?" -Luke 17:17

The Samaritan leper, "realizing that he had been cured, came back praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself on his face at the feet of Jesus and spoke His praises" (Lk 17:15-16). Jesus doesn't mention this so much because He desires to be thanked. Rather, He knows how necessary it is for our salvation that we "render constant thanks; such is God's will for" us (1 Thes 5:18).
In the passage immediately preceding this incident, Jesus also sheds light on man's posture before God. Jesus tells us, "When you have done all you have been commanded to do, say, 'We are useless servants. We have done no more than our duty' " (Lk 17:10). It's part of our fallen, human nature to take God's sheer, unmerited goodness to us for granted. Our human nature is so self-deceived that we can even expect God to "be grateful to" us because we serve Him (Lk 17:9).
"Jesus took the occasion to" comment on the importance of the proper relationship of man to God - humble, grateful praise (Lk 17:17ff). Refusing to give God thanks begins a downward spiral in our relationship with Him (Rm 1:21ff). We make a deliberate change in our posture toward God. We stand proud rather than lie prostrate. Our hearts are darkened; our minds lose wisdom and grow foolish (Rm 1:21-22). We slide into a lifestyle of sin and perversion (Rm 1:24ff), and so do "not see fit to acknowledge God" (Rm 1:28), which can lead us into hell (Mt 10:32-33).
The word Eucharist means "thanksgiving." Like the healed leper, make a thankful return to God (Ps 116:12) by dedicating yourself to Him in the Mass often, even daily. Thank You, Jesus!

Prayer: Father, I thank and praise You for making me worthy (Col 1:12), healed (Lk 17:15), and free (Rm 7:24-25). Alleluia!

Promise: "When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us." -Ti 3:4-5

Praise: Rita repented of adulterous conduct and returned to the Sacraments.

COUNTING SHEEP - One Bread, One Body, 11/13/2012

Tuesday, November 13, 2012, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini

Titus 2:1-8, 11-14, Psalm 37:3-4, 18, 23, 27, 29, Luke 17:7-10

COUNTING SHEEP

"No opponent will be able to find anything bad to say about us, and hostility will yield to shame." -Titus 2:8

Two-thirds of the Catholic people living in the boundaries of the typical parish in the U.S.A. don't regularly go to Mass on Sunday. Most of those who do go on Sundays don't go on other days. Many people who even go to church regularly don't know many fellow parishioners. They often are alone in enduring such tragedies as divorce, family breakdown, serious sickness, addictions, or bereavement. Our people desperately need pastoring. This doesn't mean the priest tries to become the Messiah, but that:
* the older men take the lead (Ti 2:2),
* older women minister to the young women (Ti 2:3-4),
* we focus on strengthening marriages and families (see Ti 2:4),
* the pastor challenges the young men to purity and holds them accountable (see Ti 2:6),
* the teaching of the parish has "the integrity of serious, sound words to which no one can take exception" (Ti 2:8),
* we emphasize that "the grace of God has appeared, offering salvation to all" (Ti 2:11), and
* we train our parishioners "to reject godless ways and worldly desires, and live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age as we await our blessed hope" (Ti 2:12-13).

If you love Jesus, do your part in caring for His sheep (Jn 21:16). "God's flock is in your midst; give it a shepherd's care" (1 Pt 5:2). "When the chief Shepherd appears you will win for yourselves the unfading crown of glory" (1 Pt 5:4).

Prayer: Father, may my heart be moved with pity for the sheep without a shepherd who lie prostrate from exhaustion (Mt 9:36).

Promise: "It was He Who sacrificed Himself for us, to redeem us from all unrighteousness and to cleanse for Himself a people of His own, eager to do what is right." -Ti 2:14

Praise: Heroic trust in God was Mother Cabrini's charism. She was a missionary to the poor, the orphans, and the sick.

"FATHER, FORGIVE" (Lk 23:34) - One Bread, One Body, 11/12/2012

Monday, November 12, 2012, St. Josaphat

Titus 1:1-9, Psalm 24:1-6, Luke 17:1-6
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111212.cfm

"FATHER, FORGIVE" (Lk 23:34)

"If he sins against you seven times a day, and seven times a day turns back to you saying, 'I am sorry,' forgive him." -Luke 17:4

We are made in the image and likeness of God (Gn 1:27). As disciples of Jesus, we try to be like Jesus in every aspect of our conduct (1 Pt 1:15). In this way, we are like God, for Jesus is God and the "exact Representation of the Father's Being" (Heb 1:3).
To be like God means to work, suffer, give, love, and forgive as God does. This means we must forgive seven times a day (Lk 17:4) and seventy times seven times (Mt 18:22), for we and billions of others frequently offend God and He keeps forgiving us. It is a conservative estimate to say that God forgives billions of times daily. That's what "seven" means - an infinite number.
To be like God, we too must forgive repeatedly and always. We must forgive those closest to us. Who else has the chance to wrong us seven times a day? We must forgive others repeatedly for the worst of injustices, even for scandals (Lk 17:1ff). Finally, we must forgive by God's standards. God's standards are not limited to just praying for or being nice to those who have hurt us; they also require giving offenders affection, gifts, and honor (Lk 15:20ff).
Forgiving others is impossible. Being like God is impossible. However, "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37). By God's grace, forgive everyone for everything, and do the impossible.

Prayer: Father, may I and others be shocked by my forgiving - both those who apologize and those who don't.

Promise: "In his teaching he must hold fast to the authentic message, so that he will be able both to encourage men to follow sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict it." -Ti 1:9

Praise: In his life, St. Josaphat, bishop of Vibetsk (now Lithuania), united the divided Eastern and Western Churches.

PM eNewsletter 32nd Sunday in ordinary time

November 11th 32nd Sunday in ordinary time

Oh! Christ, sometime we get so busy in life that we forget to pray
unless there is an emergency.

Please Lord, give us the grace to set aside a time everday to go
to our prayer room and give You praise and glory.

Let us be intercessors for others, and realize all the good we
could do for them, through You, by our prayers.

Let us see that all people are our brothers and sisters, and that
we have an obligation to pray for them.

Let us also pray the news so that those who do harm to others
will be saved through our intercessions and Your love.

Thank You, Jesus, for making us part of Your glorious plan.

Amen and Amen.

Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday LEARNING MULTIPLICATION
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/11/2012

"She was able to eat for a year, and he and her son as well; the jar of flour did not go
empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, as the Lord had foretold through Elijah." -1 Kings 17:15-16

For the widow of Zarephath, the Lord made less than a handful of flour and a few drops
of oil last for a year. How can you get the Lord to do the same miracle in your life?

First, you must need a multiplication of something (i.e. food, money, time, or energy).
You should be responsible but not try to control everything in your life. Then the Lord
will put you in situations where you need a multiplication-miracle.

Second, give from your want, all that you have to live on (Mk 12:44). The miracle of total
giving always precedes the miracle of multiplication.

Third, believe that Jesus will do this miracle for you. In our secular society, many
Christians don't believe that Jesus still does the multiplication-miracle. Read God's Word
and ask for deeper faith.

If you need a multiplication, give your all, believe in the Lord, and you will receive the
miracle of multiplication. The Lord works this miracle most often in the context of Mass.

Prayer: Jesus, I believe You will do miracles I've never believed before.

Promise: "Christ was offered up once to take away the sins of many; He will appear a second
time not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him." -Heb 9:28

Praise: Praise You, Jesus, risen Redeemer and Lord! You are enthroned in power, exalted in
majesty, and glorified in splendor. I worship You forever!

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST

"CHOOSE BROTHERHOOD"

I hope that Lebanon will fortify the communion among all her inhabitants, whatever their
community or religion, that she will resolutely reject all that could lead to disunity, and
with determination choose brotherhood.

"URGENTLY NECESSARY"

... In a world where violence constantly leaves behind its grim trail of death and
destruction, to serve justice and peace is urgently necessary for building a fraternal
society, for building fellowship!

"SERVANTS OF PEACE"

... I pray ... that the Lord will grant to this region of the Middle East servants of peace
and reconciliation, so that all people can live in peace and with dignity.

RETURN TO SENDER - One Bread, One Body, 11/10/2012

Saturday, November 10, 2012, Pope St. Leo the Great

Philippians 4:10-19, Psalm 112:1-2, 5-6, 8-9, Luke 16:9-15
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111012.cfm

RETURN TO SENDER

"Not a single congregation except yourselves shared with me by giving me something for what it had received." -Philippians 4:15

When we receive something from the Lord and from His people, we open an account (Phil 4:17). We need to give something for what we have received. We are responsible to respond. For example, Jesus expected the ten lepers, whom He healed, to respond by returning to Him and thanking Him (Lk 17:17-18). He expects us to do something with what He has given us (see Mt 25:14ff). The Christian life is a matter of loving the Lord "because He first loved us" (1 Jn 4:19).
The Christian life is not so much getting something done, but responding in love and thanksgiving to the One Who has done all that is good. Thus, Christianity is centered on the Lord. Each day, our goal is to please Him. We are living for an audience of one, that is, the Lord. We do not need to achieve anything by the standards of the world. We do not need to please others (see Gal 1:10). Our lives are for the purpose of responding to the Lord. Each of us must constantly ask the question: "How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me?" (Ps 116:12) Make a return to the Lord.

Prayer: Father, may I love You back.

Promise: "Make friends for yourselves through your use of this world's goods, so that when they fail you, a lasting reception will be yours." -Lk 16:9

Praise: Pope St. Leo had a profound supernatural gift of administration, which was a hallmark of his papacy. "The first requirement of an administrator is that he prove trustworthy" (1 Cor 4:2). He defended the faith for two decades as a faithful administrator of the mysteries of God (1 Cor 4:1).

CHURCH BUILDING

"Actually He was talking about the temple of His body." -John 2:21

Today the Church commemorates the dedication of the Lateran basilica in Rome in the fourth century. This church building has been called the mother of all the churches. Today the Church teaches us that we belong not only to our parish Church, but also to the universal Church, the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:27).
This feast reminds us that, as members of the Church, we belong to a particular diocese, but are also connected to the universal Church through her pope and her bishops. We celebrate the dedication of the Lateran basilica as an "expression of the variety and universality of the People of God; and of the unity of the flock of Christ, in so far as it is assembled under one head," that is, the pope (Catechism, 885). The pope, bishops, and each of us "are one in Christ Jesus" (Gal 3:28).
When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and receive Baptism, you become a member of His mystical Body. You become a dwelling place for Jesus, a temple in which the Holy Spirit dwells (1 Cor 3:16). Now that you're in His body, Jesus wants to talk about the temple of your body (Jn 2:21). Let Jesus be your Lord and cleanse you (Jn 2:14ff). Let Him do whatever He wishes in your life to make You a strong, living stone to build and strengthen His universal Church (1 Pt 2:4-5; 1 Cor 3:9ff).

Prayer: Jesus, let zeal for Your house consume me (Jn 2:17). Give me a great love for Your Church.

Promise: "God is our Refuge and our Strength, an ever-present Help in distress." -Ps 46:2

Praise: "How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!" (Ps 84:2)
