"TAKE MY HAND"

"The hand of the Lord was with them and a great number of them believed and were converted to the Lord." -Acts 11:21

God's hand makes it possible to convert great numbers of people. God's hand holds and protects us. Because there can be no snatching out of His hand (Jn 10:28-29), we have perfect security in His love. Even death cannot snatch us from God's hand, for the souls of the just who have died "are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them" (Wis 3:1).

If we sin, God's hand will weigh heavily on us night and day until we repent (Ps 32:4). His hand is so heavy because He loves us so much that He will try to prevent us from self-destruction through sin. In fact, our names are written on the palms of His hands (Is 49:16). Next to our names, His hands are also marked with the nails of His crucifixion and death for love of us.

God's hands are different than any other hands. His hands look and love differently. The risen Jesus is saying to you: "Take your finger and examine My hands" (Jn 20:27; see also Lk 24:39). "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (Heb 10:31).

Prayer: "Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home."

Promise: "My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish." -Jn 10:27-28

Praise: Roger weeps for joy when looking upon a crucifix.

(Take the hand of the Lord by reading the Bible every day. We have several series to help you. "Overview of the Bible" is six CDs starting with CD 10 A-1 or audio tape AV 10 A-1. EXCLUDED NO LONGER

"God has granted life-giving repentance even to the Gentiles." -Acts 11:18

It might seem that the controversies of the first-century Church could be dry reading to modern eyes. However, the way this particular controversy, told in today's first reading, was handled meant that the vast majority of nearly everyone who is reading this teaching now has the opportunity to be saved!

If the members of the early Church were not listening closely to the Holy Spirit, they could have closed their hearts to the leading of the Holy Spirit, relied on the historical precedent of their forefathers, and decided that only practicing Jews could be Christians (see Acts chapters 11 and 15).

This means that most of us would be excluded from God's Kingdom, unless we converted to Judaism. However, "God has granted life-giving repentance even to the Gentiles," that is, to non-Jews (Acts 11:18). Now we have access to Jesus and to eternal life (see Eph 3:12).

If you were aware that the decisions you make today would impact the salvation of people two thousand years from now, how would you act? Hopefully, you would be moved to listen attentively to the Holy Spirit today. "If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts" (see Heb 3:15). Even if only one person would be led to salvation merely by observing you, that person might lead thousands to salvation in their life. Therefore, live for Jesus today so others will live for Him in the future.

Prayer: Lord, grant that we would listen and obey today so that people of future generations will choose to live for Jesus.

Promise: "I came that they might have life and have it to the full." -Jn 10:10

Praise: Rachel was raised by a Jewish father and a Christian mother, and chose her Messiah Jesus.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday I DON'T KNOW MUCH, BUT...
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=4/17/2016

"The disciples could not but be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit." -Acts 13:52

In the missals used by parishes over twenty years ago, the above verse is translated:
"The disciples knew only how to be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit." What a great
description this is for a disciple of Jesus Christ!

Disciples shake off the dust (Acts 13:51) of rejection, persecution, failure, prejudice,
mistreatment, anger, bitterness, etc. They walk away from it and move on. This is part
of the reason Jesus commanded His disciples to travel lightly. You can't travel very far
if you're carrying a lot of spiritual baggage around.

After we disciples have completely shaken off all such dust, we never look back
(see Lk 9:62). We refuse to resurrect old wounds, for love does not remember past
injuries (1 Cor 13:5). We "give no thought to what lies behind but push on to what is
ahead" (Phil 3:13). We "keep our eyes fixed on Jesus" (Heb 12:2).

If, in imitation of our heavenly Father, we've forgiven and forgotten so much
(see Jer 31:34), what remains on our minds? All that's left is to be filled with joy and
the Holy Spirit (Acts 13:52). We have empty memories and full hearts. "Receive the Holy
Spirit" (Jn 20:22). "Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice!" (Phil 4:4)

Prayer: Father, nothing can separate me from Your love except my own free will. Take my
will and give me Your will in return.

Promise: "He will lead them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away every
tear from their eyes." -Rv 7:17

Praise: "Praise the Lord in His sanctuary, praise Him in the firmament of His strength"
(Ps 150:1).

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

GOD'S MERCY

NEVER SEPARATE

The corporal and spiritual works of mercy must never be separated. By touching the flesh of
the crucified Jesus in the suffering, sinners can receive the gift of realizing that they
too are poor and in need.

DON'T WASTE TIME

Let us not waste this ... favorable ... time for conversion! We ask this through the
maternal intercession of the Virgin Mary, who encountering the greatness of God's mercy
freely bestowed upon her, was the first to acknowledge her lowliness (cf. Lk 1:48) and to
call herself the Lord's humble servant (cf. Lk 1:38).

EXPERIENCE FIRST HAND

The mercy of God is a proclamation made to the world, a proclamation which each Christian is
called to experience at first hand.

STEPS RIGHT UP - One Bread, One Body, 4/16/2016

Saturday, April 16, 2016

Acts 9:31-42, Psalm 116:12-17, John 6:60-69
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/041616.cfm

STEPS RIGHT UP

The Church "was being built up and was making steady progress in the fear of the Lord." -Acts 9:31

The Lord leads us step by step, "from grace to grace" (Jn 1:16, our transl.), and from glory to glory (2 Cor 3:18). For example, Peter took a very important step forward when he obeyed the ascending Christ by devoting himself to constant prayer prior to Pentecost (Acts 1:14). Then he took the giant step of receiving the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, and witnessing for the risen Christ to thousands of people (Acts 2:4ff). These steps prepared Peter to heal the man lame from birth (Acts 3:7). Then, Peter was prepared to go to prison for love of Jesus. Peter grew through these various steps to the point that he let the Lord heal people even through his shadow (Acts 5:15-16). Later, the Lord used Peter to heal a man who had been paralyzed for eight years (Acts 9:33-34). This was an immediate preparatory step toward raising Tabitha from the dead (Acts 9:40).

After raising the dead, Peter may seem to have reached the top of the steps. However, a higher step was the conversion of the Gentiles, beginning with Cornelius and his family (Acts 10:44). To a Jew, this was more unthinkable than raising from the dead. Peter took still more steps, as when the Lord freed him from death row shortly before his planned execution (Acts 12:11). Eventually, the Lord took Peter up several other flights of stairs - all the way to martyrdom and heaven.

Keep stepping with Jesus. Since one step leads to another, not stepping means cutting ourselves off from the future. Jesus says and keeps saying: "Step right up."

Prayer: Father, I will obey You by taking today's step so I can be in position to take tomorrow's step.

Promise: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe; we are convinced that You are God's Holy One." -Jn 6:68-69

Praise: Elizabeth has followed Jesus every day for seventy-five years.

AMAZING GRACE - One Bread, One Body, 4/15/2016

Friday, April 15, 2016

Acts 9:1-20, Psalm 117:1-2, John 6:52-59
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/041516.cfm

AMAZING GRACE

"Lord, I have heard from many sources about this man..." -Acts 9:13

Those who consider religion boring must not know the Lord God. He is constantly doing stupendous, amazing things.
* Jesus appeared to Saul, the fiercest opponent of Christians. With great power, Jesus converted him into the greatest evangelist (Acts 9:15ff).
* At the very time that some Catholics are losing faith in their Church, many Protestants are converting to the Catholic Church. Some Protestant pastors have even brought their entire congregations with them into the Church.
* Youth are populating the pro-life movement in large numbers, bringing new vigor and hope to veteran pro-lifers.
* Men's movements abound with testimonies of men set free from alcoholism, sexual sins, and other compulsions. Their marriages, families, and faith have been made new.

Have you ever felt that any individual or group is beyond God's power to change? Do you feel trapped in a situation that appears to have no way out? Is your hope fading? "Fix your eyes on Jesus" (Heb 3:1) and renew your hope in Him. The Lord is a God of wonders. "Nothing is more apt to confirm our faith and hope than holding it fixed in our minds that nothing is impossible with God" (Catechism, 274). His ways are incredibly far above our ways (Is 55:8-9). There is always hope, and "this hope will not leave us disappointed" (Rm 5:5). "Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it so much as dawned on man what God has prepared for those who love Him" (1 Cor 2:9).

Prayer: Jesus, You can do immeasurably more than I ask or imagine (Eph 3:20). Give me great confidence in You (2 Cor 3:4).

Promise: "He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up on the last day." -Jn 6:54

Praise: Margaret's son returned to the Faith. She praises Jesus every day for this blessing.

HEAVENLY FOOD

"Your ancestors ate manna in the desert, but they died. This is the Bread that comes down from heaven for a man to eat and never die." -John 6:49-50

When it comes to food, God provides and man derides. God gave Adam and Eve all kinds of good food in the garden of Eden (Gn 2:16). Sadly, their craving to eat beyond what God provided led to mankind's downfall (Gn 3:6).

God then provided miraculous manna to the Israelites when they were stranded in the desert (Ex 16:14ff). He "furnished them bread from heaven, ready to hand, untoiled-for, endowed with all delights and conforming to every taste" (Wis 16:20). The manna even "was blended to whatever flavor each one wished"! (Wis 16:21) All this revealed God's sweetness toward His children (Wis 16:21). However, the Israelites in the desert soon wearied of this miraculous, tasty fare. They were "disgusted with this wretched food" (Nm 21:5) that God provided. They wanted meat, fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic (Nm 11:4-5).

Then, God once again provided His children with miraculous Bread from heaven. The infant Jesus came down from heaven and was placed in a manger, which is a feeding trough. This intimates that Jesus is Food. His "flesh is real food" (Jn 6:55). To make it unmistakable, Jesus proclaims: "I am the Bread of Life...I Myself am the Living Bread come down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread he shall live forever; the bread I will give is My flesh, for the life of the world" (Jn 6:48, 51). Jesus in the Eucharist is God's ultimate banquet. Will we reject this heavenly food? Or, will we gratefully eat what God provides?
