THE POWER OF ONE
"Here comes with power the Lord God…like a shepherd." -Isaiah 40:10, 11
The Lord God comes with power and rules with His strong arm (Is 40:10). The Lord God also comes like a humble, gentle shepherd, and His strong arm gently gathers us, His lambs, with tender care (Is 40:11). How does this seeming paradox work?
God's purpose in coming to earth and exercising His power is to gather all people together as one and keep us united as His body (see Jn 11:52; 17:21; 10:16; Eph 4:3-5). This is a task that demands the utmost in power and gentle love.
Have you ever tried to keep a religious group together? Have you ever tried to unite your family and keep them united? If so, you have a glimpse of the power and sacrificial love that is necessary for unity. The secular culture, which prizes independence so highly, is a tremendous obstacle to unity. The busyness of life, diversity of interests and priorities, and human foibles and sinfulness work to prevent unity rather than build it. A powerful servant-leader is necessary in order to gather people together and keep them united.
Leading God's people to unity requires the power of a Lion and the gentle vulnerability of a Lamb (see Rv 5:5-6). It takes a Suffering Servant-Leader Who lays down His life for His sheep (Mt 18:12ff; Jn 10:15). Jesus unites His people one heart at a time. This Advent, give your heart and your life to Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Let Him give you His heart for unity.
Prayer: Father, with Jesus, I pray that all may be one, as You and Jesus are one (Jn 17:21).
Promise: "The word of our God stands forever." -Is 40:8
Praise: Praise: The humble gifts of St. Nicholas set the tone for the true spirit of Advent - a gentle preparation for the baby Jesus.

WANTED: STRETCHER-BEARERS AND ROOFERS
"They were trying to bring him in and lay him before Jesus; but they found no way of getting him through because of the crowd, so they went up on the roof." -Luke 5:18-19
Many people, even Christians, have been so brainwashed, manipulated, and overwhelmed by the consumeristic hype of Christmas that they can't see the Christ of Christmas because of the crowd of obstructions. Nevertheless, some of these people have not been so enslaved that they are helpless. These people, like Zacchaeus, can climb a tree, see Jesus, and hope for His mercy (see Lk 19:3-4). Others are so trapped that they need special help to see Jesus. Like the paralytic, they need four good friends who have enough love and faith to carry them to Jesus and even to disassemble the roof if necessary (see Lk 5:19).
Ask the Lord whom He wants you to carry to Christmas. Pray for these people daily, repeatedly, for days. After having talked to God about these people, talk to these people about God. Ask the Lord to give you the prophetic words that will remove the roof standing between them and Jesus. After all this prayer and prophecy, lower them to Jesus. Jesus will announce to them: "My friend, your sins are forgiven you" (Lk 5:20). By God's grace and by your faith, those you've been carrying may repent, receive forgiveness, and give their lives to Jesus. Then we will have a real Christmas - new life and the birth of Jesus in our lives.
Prayer: Father, allow me to carry others under my heart until Christ is formed in them.
Promise: "A highway will be there, called the holy way." -Is 35:8
Praise: In persevering faith, Mary prayed for her son Chris for years. He encountered the Lord Jesus, repented, and returned to the Church.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE ADVENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/4/2016
"The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him." -Isaiah 11:2
Imagine a world without violence, injustice, tragedy, "harm or ruin" (Is 11:9). Imagine a
world where everyone knows the Lord deeply and lives and loves accordingly (see Is 11:9).
This is the kind of world that the Holy Spirit is re-creating at this very moment (Ps 104:30).
Get out of the "culture of death" (Pope St. John Paul II). Be a part of the "new civilization
of love" (Blessed Pope Paul VI). Renew your Baptism and Confirmation. Be immersed in the Holy
Spirit and fire (Mt 3:11). May the Spirit of the Lord rest upon you: "a Spirit of wisdom and
of understanding, a Spirit of counsel and of strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of fear of
the Lord" (Is 11:2).
Therefore, receive the Holy Spirit as never before. Receive a new and greatest Pentecost.
Receive the only true Christmas Spirit: the Holy Spirit. This Advent, go into the upper room
and remain there until you are immersed in the Holy Spirit and in fire (see Acts 1:13). Come,
Holy Spirit!
Prayer: "May God, the Source of all patience and encouragement, enable you to live in perfect
harmony with one another according to the Spirit of Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and
voice you may glorify God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Rm 15:5-6).
Promise: "Justice shall flower in His days, and profound peace." -Ps 72:7
Praise: Alleluia! Praise the risen Jesus, Who baptizes us in the Holy Spirit!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2016-11.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
THANKFULNESS AND GRATITUDE
ASK YOURSELF
... We can ask ourselves: Are we capable of saying "Thank you"? How many times do we say
"Thank you" in our family, our community, and in the Church? How many times do we say
"Thank you" to those who help us, to those close to us, to those who accompany us through
life?
TAKING GOD FOR GRANTED
Often we take everything for granted! This also happens with God. It is easy to approach
the Lord to ask for something, but to return and give thanks... This is why Jesus so
emphasizes the failure of the nine ungrateful lepers: "Were not ten made clean? But the
other nine, where are they? Was no one found to return and give praise to give praise to
God except this foreigner?" (Lk 17:17-18).
MARY, OUR MODEL
... We are given a model, indeed the model, to whom we can look: Mary, our Mother. After
hearing the message of the Angel, she lifted up her heart in a song of praise and
thanksgiving to God.

(Anonymous, , 12/3/2016 10:53:20 AM)
I am going through a hard time. I long for an end to some of the chaos. I need clarity to make
decisions that will allow me to move forward. I want my home to be my respite of beauty, peace,
and love for Christ. Family issues with my mom and sister are extremely hurtful and I don't see a
solution without divine intervention. I put these longings of my heart at the foot of the cross.
Please Blessed Mother Mary, with great devotion I ask you to pray for me and all the requests on
this site.
(Mary, United States, 12/3/2016 9:34:38 AM)
Thank you Lord for another day.Lord i thank you for your healing hands on my fingers, Father I
can feel your spirit bless me and my family members in the name of Jesus Christ Amen

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth

THE ADVENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT - One Bread, One Body, 12/4/2016
Sunday, December 4, 2016, Second Sunday of Advent
Isaiah 11:1-10, Romans 15:4-9, Psalm 72:1-2, 7-8, 12-13, 17, Matthew 3:1-12

THE ADVENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
"The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him." -Isaiah 11:2
Imagine a world without violence, injustice, tragedy, "harm or ruin" (Is 11:9). Imagine a world where everyone knows the Lord deeply and lives and loves accordingly (see Is 11:9). This is the kind of world that the Holy Spirit is re-creating at this very moment (Ps 104:30).
Get out of the "culture of death" (Pope St. John Paul II). Be a part of the "new civilization of love" (Blessed Pope Paul VI). Renew your Baptism and Confirmation. Be immersed in the Holy Spirit and fire (Mt 3:11). May the Spirit of the Lord rest upon you: "a Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a Spirit of counsel and of strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord" (Is 11:2).
Therefore, receive the Holy Spirit as never before. Receive a new and greatest Pentecost. Receive the only true Christmas Spirit: the Holy Spirit. This Advent, go into the upper room and remain there until you are immersed in the Holy Spirit and in fire (see Acts 1:13). Come, Holy Spirit!
Prayer: "May God, the Source of all patience and encouragement, enable you to live in perfect harmony with one another according to the Spirit of Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and voice you may glorify God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Rm 15:5-6).
Promise: "Justice shall flower in His days, and profound peace." -Ps 72:7
Praise: Alleluia! Praise the risen Jesus, Who baptizes us in the Holy Spirit!

GIFT LISTS - One Bread, One Body, 12/3/2016
Saturday, December 3, 2016, St. Francis Xavier
Isaiah 30:19-21, 23-26, Psalm 147:1-6, Matthew 9:35-10:1, 5-8

GIFT LISTS
"The gift you have received, give as a gift." -Matthew 10:8
One of the most famous (or infamous) Christmas songs is "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth." Sadly, if that's all you want, that may be all you'll get. I don't know about you, but I want a lot more than some teeth:
* I want the sick cured, the dead raised, the leprous healed, and demons expelled (Mt 10:8).
* I want workers for the harvest (Mt 9:38) and the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven (Mt 6:10).
* I want a deep, totally committed relationship with Jesus, not only for me but also for every member of my family, my friends, and all of you.
* I want the baptism in the Spirit, the "streams of running water" (Is 30:25), for every believer in the world.
* I want world evangelism, repentance, conversion, sanctification, and healing.
* I want an end to war, starvation, abortion, racism, and injustice.
* I want Jesus' Second Coming, the end of the world, and "new heavens and a new earth" (Rv 21:1).
* I want to see Jesus face to face (1 Cor 13:12).
That's what I want for Christmas. And my heavenly Father says: "Is that all?"
Prayer: Father, I'm sorry for asking and expecting too little of You this Christmas. During this Advent, may I come to believe in the depth, width, breadth, and height of Your love (Eph 3:18-19).
Promise: "He will give rain for the seed that you sow in the ground, and the wheat that the soil produces will be rich and abundant." -Is 30:23
Praise: St. Francis Xavier was shot, was threatened by wild animals and suffered loneliness and isolation. Yet he persevered in his mission and brought the good news of Jesus to hundreds of thousands of people in the Far East.

TRANSFORMATIONS - One Bread, One Body, 12/2/2016
Friday, December 2, 2016
Isaiah 29:17-24, Psalm 27:1, 4, 13-14, Matthew 9:27-31
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/120216.cfm
TRANSFORMATIONS
"Lebanon shall be changed into an orchard, and the orchard be regarded as a forest! On that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book; and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see." -Isaiah 29:17-18
The word from today's eucharistic readings is "transformations." Tyrants who oppress their subjects "will be no more" and the arrogant who torment their neighbors "will have gone" (Is 29:20; see also Rv 18:2; Is 37:36-38). The deaf hear. The blind see. Lebanon, a nation known for its great forests, "shall be changed into an orchard" (Is 29:17). Lebanon's flag contains a cedar tree, and its legendary forests are referred to over seventy times in the Old Testament (e.g. Ps 92:13; 104:16; 2 Chr 2:7, 15). Over time, many of its legendary forests were cut down. Now, apples, peaches, oranges, and lemons, grown in orchards, are among Lebanon's major agricultural products. Such a change would have been difficult to imagine in Isaiah's time.
Although the above reversals involved physical situations, Isaiah's words also apply to spiritual transformations. For example, Saul of Tarsus, the persecutor of Christians became its greatest evangelist, St. Paul (1 Tm 1:13-14). Are there people or sins in your life you can't imagine ever changing? Do you think your children, siblings, parents, neighbors, will never come to faith? Do you feel the Goliath of the culture of death can never be transformed into a civilization of life and love by the "Davids" who faithfully pray, fast, teach, and witness?
We believe in the "good news" of Jesus Christ (see Mk 1:1). God has the power to change anything, for "nothing is impossible with God" (Lk 1:37). On the cross, Jesus made the greatest transformation of all. He turned death into new life. Believe in the God of transformations. Believe the Advent Scriptures.
Prayer: Father, increase my faith (Lk 17:5).
Promise: "Because of your faith it shall be done to you." -Mt 9:29
Praise: Thomas repented and had his vasectomy reversed.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
"It did not collapse; it had been solidly set on rock." -Matthew 7:25
Every Realtor knows that the future value of a house is based upon its present location. Likewise, Jesus teaches that the future of our lives is based upon our location.
We are to build our lives upon every word that comes from the mouth of Jesus (Mt 4:4). If we make Jesus' words our home (Jn 8:31, JB) and put His words into practice (Mt 7:24), we will build our lives upon the unshakable Rock of Ages (Is 26:4), Jesus. Because "permanence is" the "chief trait" of His Word, we know that a life built on His Word will last forever (Ps 119:160).
In addition to locating our lives upon God's Word, we must have deep roots in the Word (see Jas 1:21). In studying His Word thoroughly, we "may be likened to the man who, in building a house, dug deeply and laid the foundation on a rock. When the floods came the torrent rushed in on that house, but failed to shake it because of its solid foundation" (Lk 6:48).
Those who hear Jesus' words but fail to build their lives on His Word are located on shifting sands. The Advent Scriptures are full of warnings, and Jesus warns us that a life not built on His Word will collapse and be "completely ruined" (Mt 7:27).
Locate God's Word and devour it (Jer 15:16). Dig deeply into His Word this Advent. Read the book of Isaiah. Spend large chunks of time reading God's Word to prepare for the arrival of the Word made flesh (Jn 1:14) this Christmas.
Prayer: Father, may I tremble at Your Word (Is 66:2), study it daily (Acts 17:11), and obey it promptly (Jas 1:22).
Promise: "A nation of firm purpose You keep in peace; in peace, for its trust in You." -Is 26:3
Praise: Young Keith prays a rosary each night before going to bed.
