ABBA'S CHILDREN

"Be compassionate, as your Father is compassionate." -Luke 6:36

The Church emphasizes that we, God's children, must be like God our Father. We must be compassionate and merciful as is God our Father (Lk 6:36). We must be "good to the ungrateful and the wicked" as is God our Father (Lk 6:35).

God the Father graces us to become like Himself by calling us not to judge and condemn other people (Lk 6:37). "The Father Himself judges no one, but has assigned all judgment to the Son" (Jn 5:22). After we are unemployed as judges, we are free to be employed in forgiving and giving (Lk 6:37-38). God the Father constantly forgives. His Son Jesus taught us to ask Him to forgive us (see Mt 6:12) seventy times seven (Mt 18:22). We too forgive constantly in imitation of our Father and by His power. When we have unclenched our unforgiving hands and hearts, we can forgive into giving (see Mt 6:11-12). Like the father of the prodigal son, we can give robes, shoes, and rings (Lk 15:22). Like Abba, we can give a great celebration (see Lk 15:23-24) and join in the greater joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Lk 15:7).

Be more like the Father.

Prayer: Abba....

Promise: "Yours, O Lord, our God, are compassion and forgiveness! Yet we rebelled against You and paid no heed to Your command, O Lord, our God, to live by the law You gave us through Your servants, the prophets." -Dn 9:9-10

Praise: Curt's back hurt so much that he could no longer work, and he could barely rise from his easy chair. Despite the pain, Curt responded in faith to God's call to become a caretaker for a retreat center. Now, with his health improved, Curt maintains a busy schedule, doing physical work so God's people can be renewed.

(Ladies day! We offer a Lenten retreat based on Pope St. John Paul II's "Dignity and Vocation of Women", Mar. 18th at the beautiful Our Lady of Guadalupe Center, in Adams County. Call 513-373-2397 or visit our website to register or for questions.)

PM eNewsletter 2nd Sunday of Lent

March 12th 2nd Sunday of Lent

Lord God, we have asked You for more faith, hope, and love.

Please Jesus, open our hearts, souls, and minds to really let go and let You totally take over
in our lives.

Fill us with the grace needed to truly do this, and really see others through Your eyes.

Jesus, the world has become what it always becomes, selfish.

Jesus, let us be in the world, but let us work and act from Your world of love and forgiveness.

Lord, it is so easy to slip into the cares and worries of today.

So Christ, lift us up, and let us praise and adore You, our living God.

Jesus, let us celebrate this lent, as a time of rooting out all the things that causes us to
be fearful of the future.

Let us all realize, that nothing is happening that You aren't totally aware of, and that You
have already worked out the perfect plan for all of us.

Let us prepare for our home coming this Lent.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday ARE YOU HARDLY WORKING FOR THE GOSPEL?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/12/2017

"Bear your share of the hardship which the gospel entails." -2 Timothy 1:8

As a baptized child of God, you have a share in the blessings of the gospel
(1 Cor 9:23; Eph 1:3). Likewise, you also have a share in the hardship the gospel of Christ
requires (2 Tm 1:8).

Jesus in His mercy brings His disciples hope in the midst of hardships. In today's Gospel
reading, Jesus takes three disciples up a mountain and allows them to experience His
transfigured brilliance and glory (Mt 17:1ff). St. Peter understood this earthly dynamic
between glory and suffering. He told us that the spiritual high of Jesus' Transfiguration
was a light "shining in a dark place" for all of us who bear gospel hardships (2 Pt 1:16-19).
Peter also understood them as a normal part of the gospel. He tells us: "Christ suffered in
the flesh; therefore, arm yourselves with His same mentality" (1 Pt 4:1).

Our hardships are few compared to those of our ancestors in faith. Abram moved hundreds of
miles at age seventy-five (Gn 12:1ff). Mary, the mother of Jesus, suffered many sorrows.
Countless disciples have been martyred for the gospel. Most of us have not even endured one
of the hardships mentioned in a partial list of St. Paul's sufferings for the gospel
(2 Cor 11:23-33). "The present burden of our trial is light enough" (2 Cor 4:17), and the
Lord gives us daily strength (2 Tm 1:8) and periodic glimpses of His glory so we can
persevere (e.g. Mt 17:2).

"Take courage...says the Lord, and work" for the spread of the gospel (Hg 2:4). "With the
strength which comes from God bear your share of the hardship which the gospel entails"
(2 Tm 1:8).

Prayer: Father, use my life in service of the gospel (Rm 15:16).

Promise: "God has saved us and has called us to a holy life." -2 Tm 1:9

Praise: Praise the transfigured, crucified and risen, glorified body of Jesus!

CONVERSION GIFTS

URGENT CALL

Lent is a new beginning, a path leading to the certain goal of Easter, Christ's victory over death.
This season urgently calls us to conversion. Christians are asked to return to God "with all their
hearts" (Joel 2:12), to refuse to settle for mediocrity and to grow in friendship with Jesus.

GO DEEPER

Lent is a favorable season for deepening our spiritual life through the means of sanctification
offered us by the Church: fasting, prayer and almsgiving.

BACK TO BASICS

At the basis of everything is the word of God, which during this season we are invited to hear and
ponder more deeply.

FORGIVENESS IS CLEARLY IMPOSSIBLE - One Bread, One Body, 3/11/2017

FORGIVENESS IS CLEARLY IMPOSSIBLE

"You have heard the commandment, 'You shall love your countryman but hate your enemy.' My command to you is: love your enemies." -Matthew 5:43-44

Alexander Pope captured in a few words a great Biblical insight when he wrote: "To err is human; to forgive divine." It is humanly impossible to forgive. Yet God, Who forgives by His divine power, offers us the grace to forgive. This is obvious because the Lord commands us to forgive:
* immediately (see Mt 5:25),
* repeatedly, even 70 x 7 (Mt 18:22),
* sacrificially by lavishing love and mercy on prodigals (see Lk 15:22ff),
* even while we're in the process of being crucified (see Lk 23:34),
* even if others don't apologize or even stop sinning against us (see Lk 23:34-35), and
* our enemies (see Mt 5:44).

To forgive is obviously divine.

The Holy Trinity lives within us. He will give us the grace to forgive immediately everyone for every sin committed against us. He will give us the grace to forgive by His impossible standards. Therefore, make the following decision and say: "By the power of Jesus Christ, I decide to forgive (name) for (sin) ." Fill in the blanks and repeat this statement until you have forgiven everyone for every sin.

Prayer: Father, I reject Satan's works of unforgiveness, bitterness, and resentment.

Promise: "Provided you keep all His commandments, He will then raise you high in praise and renown and glory above all other nations He has made, and you will be a people sacred to the Lord, your God, as He promised." -Dt 26:18-19

Praise: Greg prays to be cleansed from the sins he's not aware of committing (see Ps 19:13).

A WORLD OF ANGRY MEN AND WOMEN

"What I say to you is: everyone who grows angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment." -Matthew 5:22

Although there is such a thing as righteous anger, most people are not righteously angry, but sinfully angry. By God's grace, we must repent of anger immediately, or we will "be liable to judgment" and risk "the fires of Gehenna" (Mt 5:22). Until we repent of anger, we cannot proceed with worship and prayer (Mt 5:23-24). In anger, we stop communicating with God, which causes our faith to erode and our love to diminish. In anger, our spiritual "vital signs" begin to fail. We are in serious trouble. Therefore, the Lord warns us: "The sun must not go down on your wrath; do not give the devil a chance to work on you" (Eph 4:26-27).

"Do nothing to sadden the Holy Spirit with Whom you were sealed against the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, all passion and anger, harsh words, slander, and malice of every kind. In place of these, be kind to one another, compassionate, and mutually forgiving, just as God has forgiven you in Christ" (Eph 4:30-32). "Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for a man's anger does not fulfill God's justice" (Jas 1:19-20).

Prayer: Father, purify my heart. Remove the causes of anger in me.

Promise: "If a wicked man, turning from the wickedness he has committed, does what is right and just, he shall preserve his life; since he has turned away from all the sins which he committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die." -Ez 18:27-28

Praise: Rather than get angry at the daily news, Michael now prays the news.

PRAYING ON THE EDGE - One Bread, One Body, 3/9/2017

For Lent read our publication entitled, "The Secret of Confession"

http://www.presentationministries.com/brochures/SecretConfession.asp
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, March 9, 2017, St. Frances of Rome

Esther C:12, 14-16, 23-25, Psalm 138:1-3, 7-8, Matthew 7:7-12

PRAYING ON THE EDGE

"When I called, You answered me; You built up strength within me." -Psalm 138:3

Queen Esther's whole race was scheduled to be exterminated. The Jewish people were so pitifully weak that they couldn't do anything politically or militantly to stop the genocide. They had "their backs to the wall." They were alone and had no help but God (Est C:14). So Esther, on behalf of her people, prayed: "Save us by Your power, and help me, who am alone and have no one but You, O Lord" (Est C:25).

This Lent, many of us are facing major tragedies and challenges. We wonder if we will even make it through this year. We don't know what to do. We are "crushed beyond our strength, even to the point of despairing of life" (2 Cor 1:8). The Lord is calling us to pray through our trials. He promises: "Ask, and you will receive. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you" (Mt 7:7). He assures us: "If you, with all your sins, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to anyone who asks Him!" (Mt 7:11)

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; and those who are crushed in spirit He saves" (Ps 34:19). "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Rm 10:13). Jesus "is always able to save those who approach God through Him, since He forever lives to make intercession for them" (Heb 7:25). "So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and favor and to find help in time of need" (Heb 4:16). Pray in pain. Pray through tragedies. Pray in glory.

Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to help me in my weakness so I will pray as I ought (Rm 8:26).

Promise: "Treat others the way you would have them treat you: this sums up the law and the prophets." -Mt 7:12

Praise: St. Frances reconciled herself to God's will and continued to thank Him even when her two young sons died.

MILLIONS CONVERT IN ONE DAY

"The people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth." -Jonah 3:5

One-hundred-and-twenty-thousand very wicked people converted to the Lord in one day through a one-sentence prophecy from Jonah, a vengeful, reluctant prophet. And we "have a greater than Jonah here" (Lk 11:32). We have Jesus, the Savior of the world, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the Son of God. In fact, not only is Jesus greater than Jonah, but each Christian is greater than Jonah, for in Jesus we have been born into God's kingdom (Mt 11:11). Furthermore, Jesus has promised that those who believe in Him will do greater works than He did (Jn 14:12).

Considering the "surpassing glory" of the new covenant (2 Cor 3:10), how many conversions can we realistically expect as we fast, pray, and sacrifice this Lenten day? Considering the ultimate love and power of one Mass, what world-changing effects should we expect to occur due to our participation in the Eucharist today?

The Lord wants us to live and pray in faith. Therefore, He doesn't show us too much of the awesome effects of our lives in Him. Nevertheless, the fact is that the Lord is converting millions today. Jesus has given us the privilege of being a part of it by obeying Him in evangelizing, serving, praying, and fasting. Obey God. Be greater than Jonah, and do greater than Jesus.

Prayer: Father, once again do more than I can ever ask or imagine (Eph 3:20).

Promise: "This is an evil age. It seeks a sign. But no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah was a sign for the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be a sign for the present age." -Lk 11:29-30

Praise: St. John served those both physically and spiritually ill. When his hospital burned, he carried out all the patients through the flames, but no one was burned (see Is 43:2).
