PM eNewsletter Fourth Sunday of Easter

May 7, 2017 Fourth Sunday of Easter

Oh Christ, we continually thank you for this Easter Season, a time to meditate on the glory
of You, the Eternal Gift of Life and Love.

Jesus, You gave us a mom of love, who just loves us with the tremendous love of a true mother.

And Lord this week we celebrate her feast of "Our Lady of Fatima" .

If anything the world needs now, is for us all to have a burning love of You, through the
prayer and intercession of Our Mother Mary.

Jesus, thank you for giving us so great a gift as Mom, and let us all adore and worship You
this Saturday in union with Mom and may this world come to peace through our prayers.

I ask this in your Glorious Name

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday WALKING THROUGH A MINED-FIELD
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=5/7/2017

"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want." -Psalm 23:1

Few of us have ever pastured, fleeced, or slaughtered a sheep. So we don't have the experience
to understand the image of the Good Shepherd. Nevertheless, many people are fascinated with
this image. Perhaps they instinctively know the deep and compelling need of the human person
to be shepherded.

One of the main works of a shepherd is to guide the sheep. If we are on the road to eternal
life, we are on a rough and narrow road (Mt 7:14). We are traveling through alien territory
occupied by a "corrupt generation" (Acts 2:40, RNAB), a veritable "culture of death." As we
walk through this "valley of the shadow of death" (Ps 23:4, KJV), we unjustly suffer insults
and persecution (see 1 Pt 2:21, 23). We are in danger of being stolen, slaughtered, and
destroyed (Jn 10:10).

It is as if we are walking through a mined-field. Our next step can detonate an explosion in
our families, marriages, work, health, etc. We can't see the mines below the surface. We
desperately need guidance. We need a shepherd, and a good one. Jesus says: "I am the Good
Shepherd; the Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep" (Jn 10:11).

Prayer: Jesus, Good Shepherd, may I hear Your voice and follow You (Jn 10:3).

Promise: "By His wounds you were healed." -1 Pt 2:24

Praise: Glory be to You, Good Shepherd. We trust, adore, glorify, and worship You, our Savior
and God.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

CALLED TO MISSION

"SHARE ACTIVELY"

To be a missionary disciple means to share actively in the mission of Christ... This is
... our mission

KEEP PRAYING

There can be no promotion of vocations or Christian mission apart from constant
contemplative prayer. The Christian life needs to be nourished by attentive listening to
God's word and, above all, by the cultivation of a personal relationship with the Lord in
Eucharistic adoration, the privileged "place" for our encounter with God. I wish heartily
to encourage this kind of profound friendship with the Lord, above all for the sake of
imploring from on high new vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life.

DON'T YIELD

I ask parish communities, associations and the many prayer groups present in the Church
not to yield to discouragement but to continue praying that the Lord will send workers to
His harvest. May He give us priests enamored of the Gospel, close to all their brothers
and sisters, living signs of God's merciful love.

MAKE A RUN FOR IT - One Bread, One Body, 5/6/2017

Saturday, May 6, 2017

Acts 9:31-42, Psalm 116:12-17, John 6:60-69
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/050617.cfm

MAKE A RUN FOR IT

"There he found a man named Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for eight years. Peter said to him, 'Aeneas, Jesus Christ cures you! Get up and make your bed.' The man got up at once." -Acts 9:33-34

The first healing by the newborn Church recorded in Acts of the Apostles was the healing of the man born lame (Acts 3:1ff). Later, Peter healed "Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for eight years" (Acts 9:33). Paul also healed a man lame from birth (Acts 14:8ff). Of the many healings done by the Spirit in the early Church, the healing of the lame is the one most emphasized.

This is God's way of saying: "How beautiful are the feet of those who announce good news!" (Rm 10:15; Is 52:7) The Christian life is not primarily a head-trip but "foot-work." The Church must walk in the Spirit before she talks to the world. The Church should not be lame and paralyzed; it should be "walking, jumping about, and praising God" (Acts 3:8). We are to be like the risen Dorcas, a gazelle (Acts 9:36), running and jumping in the beauty and freedom of Christ. We all were lame from birth but now are healed and freed through the new birth of Baptism.

So, Christians, make a run for it. "You know that while all the runners in the stadium take part in the race, the award goes to one man" (1 Cor 9:24). May your "entire attention" be "on the finish line" as you "run toward the prize to which God calls" you - "life on high in Christ Jesus" (Phil 3:14). "Run so as to win!" (1 Cor 9:24)

Prayer: Father, may I run as Mary Magdalene ran on the morning of the resurrection (Jn 20:2).

Promise: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." -Jn 6:68

Praise: Margaret monthly walks and prays before the abortion clinic for an end to abortion, the conversion of abortionists, and the healing of all involved.

WHATEVER IT TAKES - One Bread, One Body, 5/5/2017

Friday, May 5, 2017

Acts 9:1-20, Psalm 117:1-2, John 6:52-59
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/050517.cfm

WHATEVER IT TAKES

"The Lord said to him: 'You must go! This man is the instrument I have chosen to bring My name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I Myself shall indicate to him how much he will have to suffer for My name.'" -Acts 9:15-16

The Lord converted Saul of Tarsus by:
* grace (see Eph 2:8),
* the martyrdom of St. Stephen (Acts 7:60-8:1),
* the redemptive suffering of the early Church (Acts 8:1, 3; 9:4),
* the prayers of God's people (Acts 2:42, 47),
* a flash of light (Acts 9:3),
* Jesus audibly questioning Saul (Acts 9:4),
* striking Saul blind (Acts 9:8),
* Saul's fasting (Acts 9:9),
* calling Ananias (Acts 9:10),
* the prayer of Saul (Acts 9:12),
* giving Saul a vision of Ananias (Acts 9:12),
* the courage and obedience of Ananias (Acts 9:17),
* the laying on of hands (Acts 9:17),
* healing Saul of blindness (Acts 9:18),
* filling Saul with the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:17), and
* Baptism (Acts 9:18).

The Lord, of course, can convert people any way He wants. He seems to want multi-faceted conversions with maximum participation. In effect, He wants each of us to witness, suffer, pray, risk our lives, heal, serve, die, and love so as to lead to Christ as many people as possible (1 Cor 9:19). Offer your life for the conversion of billions of people.

Prayer: Father, may I want all "to be saved" (1 Tm 2:4) more than I want life or pleasure.

Promise: "If you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you." -Jn 6:53

Praise: Thomas retired early to devote his time to evangelization.

SECRETS TO KNOWING THE BIBLE

"He said to him, 'Do you really grasp what you are reading?' 'How can I,' the man replied, 'unless someone explains it to me?' " -Acts 8:30-31

Some of you reading One Bread, One Body are much more intelligent that I am and know more about the Bible than I do. So why are you reading this? The Lord has arranged it that we need other people's help to understand much of the Bible. For example, the Ethiopian eunuch, the "official in charge of the entire treasury of Candace," queen of the Ethiopians, was probably much more intelligent than Philip the deacon (Acts 8:27). Yet he couldn't understand the part of the Bible he was reading without having Philip explain it to him (Acts 8:31).

Some of you reading this may know little about the Bible. However, the Lord may have chosen you to enlighten those superior to you in intelligence and knowledge of the Bible. The Lord rejoices in the Holy Spirit that what He has "hidden from the learned and the clever" He has revealed to and through the merest children (Lk 10:21)

Therefore, to understand the Bible as well as possible we need to be humble, docile, and willing to depend on others. We also need to realize that the Lord has given us a light on the Scriptures that other people need to see. Therefore, with humility and docility seek the light from others. Then "let your little light shine."

Prayer: Father, may my humility greatly exceed my intelligence (see Prv 3:5-6). Let Your Word burn in my heart (Lk 24:32).

Promise: "No one can come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me draws him; I will raise him up on the last day." -Jn 6:44

Praise: Carol accepted the invitation to join a Bible study and has been faithful to it for many years.

(Bear fruit a hundredfold by having a ministry of the Word. For encouragement, order our tapes on the "Bible Teachers Series". Our six-tape audio series starts with AV 117-1. Our three-part video series starts with V-117.)

Wednesday, May 3, 2017, Sts. Philip & James

1 Corinthians 15:1-8, Psalm 19:2-5, John 14:6-14
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/050317.cfm

LISTEN TO THE CHOSEN ONES

"He was seen by James; then by all the apostles." -1 Corinthians 15:7

Jesus selected James, Philip, and the other apostles at the start of His public ministry (Mk 3:13ff). Jesus also selected the apostles to see Him after He had risen from the dead (1 Cor 15:5, 7). No one can ever replace the witness of the apostles as "the chosen witnesses of the Lord's Resurrection" (Catechism, 860).

Jesus told His apostles: "He who hears you, hears Me. He who rejects you, rejects Me" (Lk 10:16). Thus, we must pay close attention to the apostles' teaching (Acts 2:42), which continues in the Catholic Church through the Pope and bishops (Catechism, 863). If we refuse to listen to the Church, we risk rejecting Jesus Himself. Jesus doesn't like it when someone refuses to listen to His witnesses (see Mk 16:11, 14).

For example, some couples refuse to listen to the Church about refraining from the use of artificial birth control. They decide to form their own opinion on the subject. They expect Jesus to tell them Himself if it is against His will. Now Jesus does reveal His truth to individuals some of the time. However, Jesus has already spoken through His witnesses, the pope and the magisterium of the Church, about many matters of faith. To refuse to listen to the Church is to refuse to listen to Jesus (Lk 10:16) and to risk damnation (see Jn 5:25, 28-29).

Repent of refusing to listen to Jesus through His apostolic Church! Listen to Jesus; don't risk rejecting Him.

Prayer: Father, help me never to think I know more than do the Pope and the Bishops.

Promise: "I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." -Jn 14:6

Praise: Sts. Philip and James repented of abandoning Jesus during His Passion and became great witnesses.

" 'So that we can put faith in You,' they asked Him, 'What sign are You going to perform for us to see? What is the "work" You do?' " -John 6:30

Jesus was asked: "What is the 'work' You do?" (Jn 6:30) Jesus responded not by saying what He did but Who He was. Jesus said: "I Myself am the Bread of Life" (Jn 6:35). Life in Christ is not primarily what we do, but who we are in Jesus.

Stephen was a very successful worker. He took over an administrative position fraught with difficulties and successfully dealt with the problem (see Acts 6:1ff). He was even more gifted in preaching and evangelizing. Yet Stephen was not primarily concerned with continuing his good work. His priority was being a disciple of the Lord, even if that meant his work on earth had to end as Stephen became the first Christian martyr.

When we emphasize who we are more than what we do, we do not make our work less important, but more important. Work that expresses who we are in Christ is the most important work in the world. When we focus on being God's children, we are God's workers in an awesome sense.

In this Easter season, may our work rise from the dead of pride, selfishness, and greed. May we work because of who we are in the risen Christ.

Prayer: Prayer: Father, teach me to be what You want me to be. May my doing always come from my being in You.

Promise: "No one who comes to Me shall ever be hungry, no one who believes in Me shall ever thirst." -Jn 6:35

Praise: St. Athanasius defended Christ's divinity though in exile for seventeen years.
