HOW TO TRULY LOVE SINNERS
"I hand him over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord." —1 Corinthians 5:5

St. Paul heard that one of the Corinthian Christians had committed a serious sexual sin and was not repentant (1 Cor 5:1). Paul knew that he had to make it clear that this man was excommunicated (1 Cor 5:3ff; 5:13). However, some in the Corinthian church were condoning this sin (see 1 Cor 5:2), and Paul could not be present personally to speak with the person excommunicated or the other members of the church (1 Cor 5:3). Furthermore, it was questionable whether Paul’s authority in the Corinthian church would be accepted (see 2 Cor 11:5ff).
Paul had these several reasons not to address the sin in the Corinthian church immediately. However, he knew that it was God’s will for him to act without delay, for “a little yeast has its effect all through the dough” (1 Cor 5:6). Sin is like cancer. It can spread quickly. Hence, immediate action is necessary no matter what the obstacles.
Today, a permissive attitude toward sin is pervasive even in much of the Church. Although this may appear to be compassionate, loving, and “non-judgmental,” at best, permissiveness toward sin is a paralyzing confusion. Permissiveness is a refusal to be responsible, loving, and just. It is out of touch with reality and makes matters worse immediately and possibly forever.
So let us follow Paul’s example in acting immediately regarding sin and having “zero tolerance” for our own sins and those of others. In this way, we will hate the sin and truly love the sinner.

Prayer: Father, give me Your attitude toward sinners and sin.

Promise: Jesus "said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' The man did so and his hand was perfectly restored." —Lk 6:10

Praise: Thomas expressed his love for Jesus by helping to distribute food and clothes to more than a hundred needy families.

PM eNewsletter 23rd Sunday in ordinary time

September 6th 23rd Sunday in ordinary time.

Almighty God, Your plan of salvation started with the birth of the "new ark of the covenent" Mary our
mother, that the church celebrates this week.

Jesus, Your son, needed a pure vessel in which to be born into, and so You chose Mary, and she accepted
and so became the mother of Jesus.

How blessed we are to have such a woman of love who constantly intercedes for us always.

Thank You, Father, for Your perfect plan which worked out in and through Jesus, who died on the cross
that we might have life everlasting.

Thank You for loving us always.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE HIGHEST STANDARDS FOR UNITY
https://www.presentationministries.com/series/obob/obob-2020-9-6-en

"If your brother should sin against you, go and point out his sin." -Matthew 18:15, our translation

Jesus prays that His Church would be one as He and His Father are one (Jn 17:21). Jesus has exceptionally
high standards for unity in His Church so that the world would believe that the Father sent Jesus
(Jn 17:21). This may come as a surprise to us, for our experience in our local churches may be that of
denominational and factional disunity. Yet Jesus never changes His standards. He insists on His Church
reflecting the unity of the Trinity.

To prevent disunity, dispel disunity, and build unity, the Holy Spirit works in the following ways. He
gives us:
. the Sacrament of Reconciliation,
. the responsibility and wisdom to correct our brothers and sisters in Christ (see Ez 33:8; Mt 18:15),
. the charity and discipline to keep our differences with another brother or sister private (see Mt 18:15),
. the deeper presence of Jesus and the power of prayer when Christians gather in unity in Jesus' name
(see Mt 18:19-20),
. submission to the authority of the leaders of our church (see Mt 18:17), and
. redemptive suffering (see Jn 11:51-52).

The Holy Spirit enables us never to have to settle for less than the best unity in the Church. However,
we must be docile to the Holy Spirit and follow His ways of reconciliation and unity exactly and
sacrificially. Come, Holy Spirit of unity! (see 1 Cor 12:13; Eph 4:3) Come and give us a new Pentecost
of unity!

Prayer: Father, free the Church to accept her participation in the unity of the Trinity, as soon as
possible.

Promise: "Owe no debt to anyone except the debt that binds us to love one another." -Rm 13:8

Praise: Have you ever been put in jail for "proclaiming the resurrection of the dead in the person of
Jesus"? (see Acts 4:1-3) Risen Jesus, give me the strength of Your apostles!

WHY SOME ARE COURAGEOUS AND OTHERS NOT
"We have become the world's refuse, the scum of all; that is the present state of affairs." —1 Corinthians 4:13

When Jesus was presented in the Temple, Simeon prophesied that Jesus would be a “sign of contradiction” (Lk 2:34, our transl). This was shockingly exhibited by the fact that Jesus was crucified. Jesus’ followers are also signs of contradiction. We will be persecuted (see Mt 5:11), and some will be martyred. In this way, the world tries to manipulate us into compromising the truth of the Gospel. Therefore, we must be willing to suffer any degree of rejection, insult, or pain (see 1 Cor 4:10ff) so that we will never lose our freedom to proclaim the Gospel courageously without compromise.
To endure pain and persecution for love of Jesus is possible only by God’s grace. This grace of courage is usually preceded by many other graces given especially in our formative years:
• total commitment to Jesus,
• a thorough, prayerful formation in God’s Word,
• a vibrant, established sacramental life,
• Christian brotherhood and sisterhood lived in Christian community, with penance and sacrifices,
• submission to the authority of the Church, and
• a rightly formed conscience.
Many Christians seem to be more fearful in more recent times. They are easily manipulated into compromise by the mere thought of possibly being a little unpopular. Some Christians even doubt objective truth and morality. We must repent, accept the foundational graces of courage, and then speak courageously the unadulterated truth in love (see Eph 4:15).

Prayer: Father, may I love people enough to risk being rejected by them when I tell them the truth.

Promise: "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth." —Ps 145:18

Praise: Love for the unborn overcame Mary's fear of persecution for being a pro-life witness.

OUR MISSION TO FAST
"When the days come that the Groom is removed from their midst, they will surely fast in those days." —Luke 5:35

Jesus said that after His Ascension into heaven, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and the birth of His Church, then His disciples would fast. After His disciples were baptized into Him and became new creations, they could fast in a radically new dimension.
Then the early Church tried to discover what Jesus’ new kind of fasting was. When the Lord blinded Saul, He put him on a three-day fast from food and drink prior to his Baptism (Acts 9:9). Next, the Lord called the church of Antioch to fast, at which time the Holy Spirit spoke to them and set apart Barnabas and Saul to be the first Christian missionaries (Acts 13:2-3). In each church they started, “they installed presbyters...with prayer and fasting” (Acts 14:23). The first three examples in the Bible of fasting after Jesus’ Ascension and the Spirit’s coming at Pentecost were in the context of mission. Saul was one of the first two Christian missionaries, Antioch was the first Christian missionary church, and the leaders of the churches founded on the first Christian missionary journey were installed with prayer and fasting.
It may be that we need to be missionaries at heart if we are to fast with the radical newness of the New Testament. Let us repent and ask the Holy Spirit to stir up our baptismal zeal for mission. Then we will want to hear God’s call to fast.

Prayer: Father, make me faithful in fasting each Friday and every other opportunity You give me to fast.

Promise: "The Lord is the One to judge me, so stop passing judgment before the time of His return. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and manifest the intentions of hearts."

Praise: For many years, Jane has fasted for the end to abortion and euthanasia.

GO DEEP
"Remaining seated, He continued to teach the crowds from the boat. When He had finished speaking He said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.' " —Luke 5:3-4

On January 6, 2001, on the feast of the Epiphany, at the official end of the Great Jubilee, Pope St. John Paul II proclaimed and prophesied that the Lord’s call for the Church at the beginning of the third millennium was: “Put out into the deep” (Lk 5:4, our transl). Nearly twenty years later, we need to ask ourselves how we have responded to the Lord speaking through the Church and the Pope.
Numerous Catholic Christians and other Christians throughout the world responded. They accepted God’s grace to deepen significantly their relationships with the Lord, to reach out much farther in person-to-person evangelization, and in other ways to be fishers of men and women (see Lk 5:10).
Many other Christians are lagging behind in following the lead of the Spirit revealed by the Church. The Lord in His mercy offers repentance and forgiveness to them. If they feel inadequate, the Lord will provide everything necessary to do His will. They must only believe and obey Him.
Jesus could return at any time. Each of us, even the youngest, have only a short time to live. Life is short. Let us not spend what remains of our “earthly life on human desires but on the will of God” (1 Pt 4:2). Live from now on to share the faith farther and deeper.

Prayer: Father, remove anything which would hinder me from putting out into the deep and being a fisher of men and women.

Promise: "If any one of you thinks he is wise in a worldly way, he had better become a fool." —1 Cor 3:18

Praise: Pope St. Gregory the Great felt called to be a monk but was called to greater things. He sits alongside Sts. Augustine, Ambrose, and Jerome as one of the four key doctors of the Western Church.

SPIRITUAL ANOREXIA
"I could not talk to you as spiritual men but only as men of flesh, as infants in Christ." —1 Corinthians 3:1

Many times God’s people are sick, “in the grip of a severe fever,” and unable to serve God and His people (Lk 4:38-39). We become sick and non-functional when the body of Christ is dislocated and divided. Our debilitating divisions are partially due to our immaturity. Our immaturity and spiritual retardation are partly due to our lack of spiritual nourishment (see 1 Cor 3:2ff). Our lack of spiritual nourishment is partly due to spiritual anorexia. We have lost our appetite for the things of God because we have stuffed ourselves with the things of the flesh. “The flesh lusts against the Spirit” (Gal 5:17), and “lust indulged starves the soul” (Prv 13:19).
We must let the Spirit lust against the flesh (Gal 5:17) and crucify our “flesh with its passions and desires” (Gal 5:24). Then we will not only “be as eager for milk as newborn babies — pure milk of the Spirit” (1 Pt 2:2), but we will also be hungry for the bread (Mt 4:4) and solid food (Heb 5:14) of God’s Word. Then, when we are nourished spiritually, we will be mature, be united and healthy, and be able to serve the Lord and His people in power. Let the Holy Spirit crucify your flesh, heal your soul, and change the world.

Prayer: Father, may I be more hungry for Your word than for my favorite food (see Ps 119:103).

Promise: "To other towns I must announce the good news of the reign of God, because that is why I was sent." —Lk 4:43

Praise: Sister Norma spoke kindly to a woman who was browsing New Age books in a bookstore. Sister bought her a Catholic book and give it to her as she left the store. The woman read the book, accepted Jesus into her heart, and joined the Catholic Church.
