SAY WHAT?

"I have designated a widow there to provide for you." -1 Kings 17:9

God told Elijah that He had provided a benefactor to care for him. Was this benefactor a rich man touched by Elijah's life-changing prophecies or a wealthy relative with a large annuity in the bank? No, God told Elijah not to worry because He had designated a widow to provide for Him (1 Kgs 17:9). Moreover, this would not be a rich widow living comfortably from her husband's estate. Instead, she will be a poor widow with less than one day of provisions. Nonetheless, Elijah had seen God provide miraculously for him while a refugee in the wilderness, for there God arranged for ravens to bring him daily bread and meat (1 Kgs 17:6).
When Elijah arrived in drought-ridden Zarephath, he had to be hungry and thirsty after a long journey. Then he learned that this widow chosen by God was penniless, lacking enough to prepare even one meal. Despite this bleak circumstance, Elijah still acted in confident faith, not in bitter spite. He trusted God, and saw Him multiply her oil and flour (1 Kgs 17:15-16).
When tough times come, we Christians cannot lose the freshness of our faith. We must not go flat (Mt 5:13) just because circumstances don't break in our favor. We must act like Elijah and "trust in [God] at all times" (Ps 62:9). "Walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor 5:7).

Prayer: Father, "You put gladness into my heart, more than when grain and wine abound" (Ps 4:8). I prefer You to riches. Your love is better than life (Ps 63:4).

Promise: "Your light must shine before men so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly Father." -Mt 5:16

Praise: Robert trusted in God's provision and refused a promotion that would have required him to spend much more time away from his family.

TAKING THE LEAD

"Then, after they had fasted and prayed, they imposed hands on them and sent them off." -Acts 13:3

The leaders of the church in Jerusalem sent Barnabas to the church in Antioch (Acts 11:22). Barnabas' encouraging leadership resulted in large numbers being added to the Lord (Acts 11:23-24). Then Barnabas had the wisdom and discernment to look for Saul and bring him to Antioch to lead the believers through an entire year of teaching (Acts 11:25-26). Saul's teaching was so effective that several leaders were raised up in the church of Antioch (Acts 13:1). Then these leaders were instructed by the Spirit to send Barnabas and Saul to lead Christianity's first missionary outreach (Acts 13:2-3).
The Christian life is a matter of leadership. Leaders begin, discern, encourage, evangelize, and teach. Leaders are especially responsible to raise up other leaders. This is how Jesus ministered. In His three years of public ministry, He spent most of His time working with twelve future leaders. His work was not completely and immediately successful, for one of His potential leaders betrayed Him and the others abandoned Him (Mk 14:50). Nevertheless, most of His leaders eventually and amazingly became great leaders by the power of the Spirit.
Has the Lord called you to be a leader or even a leader of leaders? Are you another Barnabas?

Prayer: Father, may those called to lead die to themselves and accept Your call.

Promise: "Cure the sick, raise the dead, heal the leprous, expel demons. The gift you have received, give as a gift." -Mt 10:8

Praise: St. Barnabas twice made missionary journeys to his homeland of Cyprus, evangelizing "the whole island" (Acts 13:6). His love for Jesus and for his homeland resulted in the conversion of the governor of Cyprus (Acts 13:12).

PM eNewsletter Body and Blood of Christ

June 10th Body and Blood of Christ

This Sunday, oh! Jesus, Your church celebrates the feast of Your Body and Blood.

Thank You Jesus, for giving us Your Body and Blood as the food of life.

You gave us eternal life by Your death, and have given us this food to sustain us to help us
get to eternal life.

We are so privledged to be able to eat Your Body, and drink Your Blood, and have Your life
within us.

Jesus, give us the grace to adore You in the tabernacle, and see the miracle of the food of
life.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday PAID IN COVENANT-BLOOD
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=6/10/2012

"This is the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you." -Exodus 24:8

God made a graphic covenant with Abram. He had Abram split several animals in half and place
each half on the ground with a walkway between them. In the form of a blazing fire, God
passed between the split animals (Gn 15:17) to seal the covenant. By this act, God solemnly
verified His covenant promises to Abraham, in effect saying: "If I am not faithful to this
covenant agreement we have made, then let Me be split in half like these animals and let My
blood likewise be poured out." God pledges His covenant with His blood.

Jesus has made a new covenant, also pledged with His blood. Instead of animals being split
open, Jesus Himself was sacrificed (Is 53:7) and His blood poured out to solemnly verify the
covenant (Jn 19:34). Jesus made this painful pledge to pour out His "blood of the covenant"
(Mk 14:24) before we ever agreed to even have a part in it (see Rm 5:8). Through our sins,
we poured out His blood (Catechism, 598). He was faithful to the covenant, we were not; yet
His blood was spilled instead of ours. Jesus offered "His own blood" (Heb 9:12) to obtain
eternal redemption for us. We get all the benefits; He gets all the pain and suffering.

How shall we ever repay Jesus? The return He greatly desires (Lk 22:15) is for us to take up
the cup of salvation, the cup of his Blood, the Eucharist (Ps 116:12-13). He doesn't ask us
to walk between bloody animals; instead He asks us to walk between the pews - up to the
altar to receive His precious Body and Blood.

Prayer: Father, may Jesus' blood cover us always (Mt 27:25).

Promise: "How much more will the blood of Christ...cleanse our consciences from dead works
to worship the living God!" -Heb 9:14

Praise: "O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be
every moment Thine."

OUR ROOTS

"I charge you to preach the word, to stay with this task whether convenient or inconvenient - correcting, reproving, appealing - constantly teaching and never losing patience." -2 Timothy 4:2

This booklet was founded by Father Al Lauer twenty-eight years ago. Father Al passed on nine years ago, but his priestly ministry followed today's eucharistic readings literally.
Father taught constantly, "whether convenient or inconvenient" (2 Tm 4:2). For eighteen years, he generally wrote these teachings in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. However, his evangelistic ministry kept him on the move. Often he wrote these teachings on scraps of paper in "inconvenient" places and times, such as gas stations, airports, his hospital and death beds, between Masses, before and after ministry meetings, etc. Father Al "put up with hardship [and performed his] work as an evangelist" (2 Tm 4:5).
Father believed that no one should be denied teaching because of a lack of money. He wanted the Word of God to be spread even if many didn't have two coins (Mk 12:42) to pay for a subscription. Accordingly, we offer this booklet to all regardless of money, trusting in God to provide our every need.
Constantly teaching and never stopping - these commands are the roots of One Bread, One Body. You who read this have been blessed to stand on the shoulders of Father Al Lauer. May you be blessed richly by his ministry and be filled with his same desire to spread the Word of God "whether convenient or inconvenient."

Prayer: Father, help me to freely give to others the gift of the Word that You have given to me (Mt 10:8).

Promise: "A merited crown awaits me." -2 Tm 4:8

Praise: St. Ephrem spread the gospel with courage and creativity to a sin-sick world.

THE WORD AT WORK WITHIN YOU (1 Thes 2:13)

"My heart stands in awe of Your word." -Psalm 119:161

Presentation Ministries publishes One Bread, One Body for the purpose of opening up the Church's daily eucharistic Scripture readings to as many people as possible. We pray fervently that each teaching will touch your hearts deeply and bear great fruit in your lives, in the Church, and in God's kingdom.
It has been our guiding principle to use a number of Scripture references and quotations on these pages, for "all Scripture is inspired of God and is useful for teaching" (2 Tm 3:16). The real power in any of these teachings comes from the Scripture passages themselves. This is because it is God's Word, not our words, which has the power to open hearts. "Indeed, God's word is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword. It penetrates and divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the reflections and thoughts of the heart" (Heb 4:12).
God's Word is permanent (Ps 119:160) and unfailing (Is 55:11). When His Word is proclaimed, it gets the job done. "It shall not return to [God] void, but shall do [His] will, achieving the end for which [He] sent it" (Is 55:11). When His Word is proclaimed at Mass, it is especially powerful. The Mass is the environment of miracles. In such a setting, God's Word is charged with even greater life-changing power. "That is why we thank God constantly that in receiving His message from us you took it, not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God at work within you who believe" (1 Thes 2:13).

Prayer: Father, may Catholics increasingly read, study, pray, share, live, proclaim, obey, and teach Your word.

Promise: "You, for your part, must remain faithful to what you have learned and believed." -2 Tm 3:14

Praise: Showing mercy to an emotionally abusive spouse, Linda prayed faithfully for her husband's conversion until the day he died.

WALKIE OR TALKIE?

"Charge them before God to stop disputing about mere words. This does no good and can be the ruin of those who listen." -2 Timothy 2:14

Millions of people, even Christians, listen to talk shows. The most popular talk shows feature constant controversy, even disputes "about mere words" (2 Tm 2:14). Some people think such talk shows are good. Most people don't see any harm in them. However, the Lord declares: "This does no good and can be the ruin of those who listen" (2 Tm 2:14). Talk shows are not just harmful to the talkers; they are also the ruin of the listeners.
"On Judgment Day," the talkers "will be held accountable for every unguarded word they speak" (Mt 12:36). Therefore, the listeners are not to give them encouragement to speak sinfully. We must stop our ears lest we "hear of bloodshed" (Is 33:15). When we carelessly open our ears to the talk of the world, we close our ears to the Word of God. However, when we close our ears to the strident controversies of the world, we open our ears to the voice of God.
The Lord commands us: "Be still, and know that I am God" (Ps 46:10, RSV-CE). Pray: "Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening" (1 Sm 3:9).

Prayer: Father, make me quick to hear You (see Jas 1:19).

Promise: "Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone!" -Mk 12:29

Praise: Once hindered by the sin of gossip, Rachel, touched by the Holy Spirit, now speaks freely about the good qualities she sees in others.
