November 13th, 33rd Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, next week is the last week in ordinary time.
Please grace us to know where we are with You in our lives.
Help us to become totally focused and centered on You.
Jesus, help us to realize that You truly are the Lord, and King, and Redeemer of all.
Help us, Christ, to know, love and serve You with all of our being.
And bring us all into Your eternal kingdom.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday THE TESTIMONY TEST
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/13/2016
"It will lead to your giving testimony." -Luke 21:13, RNAB
Persecutions are great opportunities for giving testimony to Jesus. A testimony is our personal
witness to what the Lord Jesus has done in our life. Did you know that Satan is defeated by our
testimony to Jesus? "They defeated [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their
testimony" (see Rv 12:11). Jesus uses our testimony to soften the hearts of those who listen.
People can disagree with our theological positions, but no one can deny what happened to us and
our personal experience of and relationship with Jesus.
Do not be terrified or perturbed (see Lk 21:9). Jesus promises you this: "I will give you words
and a wisdom which none of your adversaries can take exception to or contradict" (Lk 21:15).
Your testimony to what Jesus has done in your life is a valuable witness in favor of the Lord in
the court of each human heart and mind who will hear you. God is constantly planting seeds in
each heart. Who knows when that heart will open to Jesus? Perhaps your testimony will cause that
person to give their life to Jesus or bring them one step closer. Therefore, "never be ashamed
of your testimony to our Lord" (2 Tm 1:8).
The court is in session, and Jesus is on trial. The Spirit is calling you to the witness stand.
Will you pass the testimony test?
Prayer: Lord, Your Word promises that if I open wide my mouth, You will fill it (Ps 81:11). Give
me a grateful and willing spirit, and an obedient heart.
Promise: "For you who fear My name, there will arise the sun of justice with its healing rays."
-Mal 3:20
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life" (Jn 14:6). Alleluia!

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2016-11.asp?navlink=latest
Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
THANKFULNESS AND GRATITUDE
THANKSGIVING IS IMPORTANT
To be able to offer thanks, to be able to praise the Lord for what He has done for us: this is
important!
ASK YOURSELF
... We can ask ourselves: Are we capable of saying "Thank you"? How many times do we say "Thank
you" in our family, our community, and in the Church? How many times do we say "Thank you" to
those who help us, to those close to us, to those who accompany us through life?
TAKING GOD FOR GRANTED
Often we take everything for granted! This also happens with God. It is easy to approach the
Lord to ask for something, but to return and give thanks... This is why Jesus so emphasizes the
failure of the nine ungrateful lepers: "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are
they? Was no one found to return and give praise to give praise to God except this foreigner?"
(Lk 17:17-18).

TOUGH LOVE
"We owe it to such men to support them and thus to have our share in the work of truth." -3 John 8
St. John told Gaius to "demonstrate fidelity" (3 Jn 5) and love by helping and supporting the missionaries John had sent to Gaius' church (3 Jn 6, 8). To do this would cost Gaius not only time and money but also his reputation (see 3 Jn 10) and his membership in his local church. This is because Diotrephes, the leader of Gaius' church, threatened to excommunicate anyone who accepted John's missionaries (3 Jn 10).
To obey the Lord, to remain faithful and loving, to love the Church (Eph 5:25), and to support our brothers and sisters in Christ and the mission work of the Church sometimes results in our being persecuted, slandered, and rejected. Are we so committed to our brothers and sisters in Christ that we will suffer anything rather than be unfaithful to that commitment? Do we love each other so much that we will lay down our lives for one another? (1 Jn 3:16; Jn 15:13) Let us love and suffer as Jesus loved and suffered.
Prayer: Father, may I love without counting the cost.
Promise: Jesus told His disciples "a parable on the necessity of praying always and not losing heart." -Lk 18:1
Praise: St. Josaphat was martyred for trying to unite Catholic and Orthodox Christians.

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE END
"Whoever tries to preserve his life will lose it; whoever loses it will keep it." -Luke 17:33
As we near the end of the Church's year, the Church proclaims Jesus' revelation about the end of the world. Jesus reveals much to us about the world's end because we need to know all this. Jesus does not reveal trivia but essentials.
We need to know that some people will be prosperous when the world ends. People will be eating and drinking, getting married, doing business, building, and planting (Lk 17:27-28). Then the world will end in a blaze of fire (2 Pt 3:7, 10, 12). We need to know this so that we will not let prosperity corrupt and spiritually blind us.
We also need to know that the world will end in a flash. There will be no time to go downstairs, to go home, or to repent (Lk 17:31). If we're not ready, we won't be able to get ready.
We also need to know that at the world's end, not everyone will be prospering. Many will be suffering "famine and pestilence and earthquakes" (Mt 24:7), while others will be enjoying themselves and watching the news coverage of these tragedies before they switch channels to something more entertaining.
It's beginning to look a lot like the end of the world. Repent! The kingdom of God and the King of the kingdom is near - even at the door (Mk 1:15; Jas 5:9).
Prayer: Father, as this Year of Mercy draws to a close, have Your way in this world and in my life.
Promise: "It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the path of truth, just as we were commanded by the Father." -2 Jn 4
Praise: St. Martin asked to become a Christian at the age of ten.

Philemon 7-20, Psalm 146:7-10, Luke 17:20-25

FREE WILL AND FREE LOVE
"I did not want to do anything without your consent, that kindness might not be forced on you but might be freely bestowed." -Philemon 14
In today's first reading, St. Paul, a spiritual father to Philemon, is writing to Philemon to make a special request of him. Philemon was a slave owner, a relatively wealthy man of the city of Colossae. One of Philemon's slaves, Onesimus, whose name means "Useful," had apparently escaped and had stolen from Philemon in the process (Phlm 15, 18). Onesimus crossed paths with Paul, who converted him to Christianity. Therefore, Paul became a spiritual father to Onesimus, who became a "useful" minister of the gospel in the process. Paul convinced Onesimus to humbly return to Philemon and restore what he had stolen. Paul cleverly appeals to Philemon to forgive Onesimus, not as his slave but as a brother in the Lord; in addition, Paul asks Philemon to grant Onesimus his freedom and let him return to work in Paul's ministry. This is a great deal to ask of Philemon!
This is much like the way God deals with each of us. God has given us the gift of free will (Catechism, 1730). The Lord wants us to love Him out of our free will. The gift of free will sets up the possibility that mankind might choose evil instead of love. Love given out of free will is the greatest force in the world, stronger even than death (see Sg 8:6). As the Church year draws to a close, finish the year by giving God the gift He so greatly desires: your love given totally to Him.
Prayer: "Take joy, my King, in what You hear. Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear."
Promise: "I find great joy and comfort in your love, because through you the hearts of God's people have been refreshed." -Phlm 7
Praise: Pope St. Leo preached life-changing sermons and called many to holiness.

"REBUILD MY CHURCH"
"His disciples recalled the words of Scripture: 'Zeal for Your house consumes Me.' " -John 2:17
I, a priest and a pastor, have been trying for years to get people to go to Mass and to support the Church. I and others like me have not been very successful, for most people don't go to Church even on Sundays and don't tithe and give alms.
However, the Lord calls us to do much more than the little we are trying unsuccessfully to do. He calls us to love the Church as Jesus does. We should lay down our lives for the Church (Eph 5:25) and be consumed with zeal for the building of the Church (Jn 2:17; Ps 69:10). But when we are failing to do the minimum, how can we succeed in doing the maximum?
For its first three-hundred years of existence, the Church was made up of small, home-based communities. We need to restore the historical foundation of the Church. We need to rebuild the Church from the bottom up. In daily laying down our lives for the brothers and sisters in our small communities, we will love them and the Church, and be set on fire with zeal to build the Church. Then going to Church and supporting the Church will not be unrealized ideals but only the beginning in loving Jesus and His body and bride, the Church.
Prayer: Father, teach me to love the universal Church by loving those in my home and everyday life.
Promise: "Everyone, however, must be careful how he builds. No one can lay a foundation other than the one that has been laid, namely Jesus Christ." -1 Cor 3:10-11
Praise: Patrick and Teresa have led the same home-based community for thirty years.

THE BEAUTY OF ORDER
"Reject godless ways and worldly desires, and live temperately, justly, and devoutly." -Titus 2:12
In the first two verses of the Bible, God is described as creating the beauty and harmony of the heavens and earth by bringing order into "a formless wasteland" and "the abyss" (Gn 1:2). Order is what makes things beautiful. Order is an expression of love, while disorder is destructive, even abusive. Thus, we can see how blessed we are because Jesus has left us peace, that is, shalom-order, in His last will and testament (Jn 14:27).
Our churches are meant to be beautiful and harmonious creations of God's love. This does not refer primarily to the church building but to the people of the Church and their relationships. The pastor needs to have good relationships with the old and young men of the parish so he can tell them how to live in godly order (Ti 2:2, 6). Husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the Church (Eph 5:25). Older women should, by their example, teach younger women how to love (Ti 2:3-4). When our relationships are in godly order, the Church is beautiful. Then, even in the chaos which re-entered the world through sin, the earth is re-created by the Holy Spirit (see Ps 104:30), Who is not a God of confusion but of shalom-order (see 1 Cor 14:33).
Prayer: Father, order my life to make it beautiful for You.
Promise: "Trust in the Lord and do good, that you may dwell in the land and enjoy security. Take delight in the Lord, and He will grant you your heart's requests." -Ps 37:3-4
Praise: Laura uses her nursing skills to voluntarily care for the needs of several paraplegics.
