"MINISTERS OF RECONCILIATION" (SEE 2 COR 5:18)

"If your brother sins against you, go and correct him between you and him alone." -Matthew 18:15, our transl.

"We implore you, in Christ's name: be reconciled to God!" (2 Cor 5:20) God the Father so strongly desires that we be reconciled to Him that He sent His Son to die for us (Rm 5:10) and to thereby "reconcile everything in His person" (Col 1:20).

God the Father insists that we be reconciled not only with Him but also with our brothers and sisters in Christ. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus stated: "If you bring your gift to the altar and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift at the altar, go first to be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift" (Mt 5:23-24). Without reconciliation, our prayer backfires on us, God does not forgive our sins (Mt 6:15), our relationship with Him deteriorates, and we are lost and doomed to the everlasting alienation of hell. Therefore, "in Christ's name, be reconciled!" (2 Cor 5:20)

"If your brother should commit some wrong against you, go and point out his fault, but keep it between the two of you" (Mt 18:15). If you have disobeyed this command of the Lord by telling someone about what someone else did against you, repent, apologize to the person for talking behind his back, then point out the person's sin. This first attempt at reconciliation works much of the time because of the power of Jesus' reconciling and sacrificial death. If necessary, make the other three attempts at reconciliation referred to in Matthew 18:16-19. Do all that you can to be reconciled now.

Prayer: Father, may I take full advantage of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Promise: "Where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in their midst." -Mt 18:20

Praise: In a vision, St. Maximilian was offered a choice by the Blessed Mother. She presented the white crown of purity and the red crown of martyrdom. The young saint said, "I choose both."

A DIPLOMA IN THE SCHOOL OF MERCY

"If he succeeds in finding it, believe Me he is happier about this one than about the ninety-nine that did not wander away." -Matthew 18:13

The ninety-nine sheep paid a portion of the cost of mercy for the lost sheep to be found. They were left "in the wasteland" (Lk 15:4) without the intimate comfort of the Good Shepherd. Then they had to watch the Master rejoice more in the finding of the wayward sheep than in their own faithfulness.

Moses also paid a portion of the cost of mercy. He endured forty years of desert heat accompanied by the revolts of the Israelites against him. He finally led them to the border of the Promised Land only to have to step aside and let Joshua lead Moses' people into the land (Dt 31:2-3).

The Lord teaches us first about mercy by being merciful to us personally. As we mature in discipleship, He then leads us into the graduate school of mercy. We watch Him rejoice as He dispenses mercy to others (Mt 9:13), for He delights in mercy (Mi 7:18). One of God's required graduate courses in mercy is to learn to rejoice when others get mercy at our expense (Lk 15:27ff). We serve Jesus for years and then get a front-row seat to watch the newcomers receive the same reward as ourselves (Mt 20:9ff). Jesus makes us watch so that we can watch Him rejoice. If we are His true disciples, we will rejoice in what makes Jesus rejoice (see Rm 12:15). Like John the Baptizer, rejoice when you decrease so that the mercy of Jesus will increase (Jn 3:26, 30).

Prayer: Father, may I desire mercy like Jesus does (Mt 9:13).

Promise: "It is the Lord Who marches before you; He will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you." -Dt 31:8

Praise: Pope St. Pontian and St. Hippolytus were once at odds over church doctrine. They were reconciled as fellow prisoners and each received a martyr's crown.

CORRECTION FLUID - One Bread, One Body, 8/12/2019

Monday, August 12, 2019, St. Jane Frances de Chantal

Deuteronomy 10:12-22, Psalm 147:12-15, 19-20, Matthew 17:22-27
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/081219.cfm

CORRECTION FLUID

"Jesus on entering the house asked, without giving him time to speak: 'What is your opinion, Simon?' " -Matthew 17:25

Eternal life is to know personally God the Father and Jesus Whom He sent (Jn 17:3). When we know others personally, we can elaborate on how they talk, think, work, pray, deal with problems, etc. When we know Jesus personally, we can wax eloquently on His ways, even on how He corrects us.

Jesus can come on strong in correcting us. For example, when Peter refused to accept the message of the cross, Jesus "turned on Peter and said, 'Get out of My sight, you satan! You are trying to make Me trip and fall. You are not judging by God's standards but by man's' " (Mt 16:23). But in the next chapter, Jesus, in a low-key, even humorous way, corrects Peter for implicitly denying His divinity (see Mt 17:25ff). Jesus even produced the money for the temple tax in the mouth of a fish (Mt 17:27).

In His mercy, Jesus corrects the proud sternly with an iron rod (see Rv 12:5), and He corrects the humble gently (see 1 Pt 5:5). "The bruised reed He will not crush; the smoldering wick He will not quench" (Mt 12:20). Jesus is wondrous in all His ways, including His ways of correcting us. Marvel at our privilege of knowing His mercy and majesty.

Prayer: Jesus, may I so want to be holy that I want to be corrected by You.

Promise: "Your ancestors went down to Egypt seventy strong, and now the Lord, your God, has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky." -Dt 10:22

Praise: St. Jane Frances de Chantal received spiritual direction from St. Francis de Sales. She lived an abundant life as wife, mother, and finally as a nun.

PM eNewsletter 19th Sunday in Ordinary time

August 11th 19th Sunday in ordinary time.

This week, oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the assumption of the blessed virgin Mary into Your eternal
kingdom.

Christ, what a fitting end to Mary's life that right after death, she was assumed into Your heavenly
kingdom, body and soul.

Jesus, help us to have that love for Mary, our mother, that You have.

Help us to intercede to her as a very strong mediator to You for all the needs that we have.

Jesus, You gave us Mary as an example of what trust in You can cause.

She was full of grace and love.

Jesus, continue to shower down on us some of that grace, so that we can trust You all the days of our life.

Thank you Jesus.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday INCREASING GOD'S PROPERTY VALUE
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=8/11/2019

"That servant is fortunate whom his Master finds busy when He returns. Assuredly, his Master will put him in
charge of all His property." -Luke 12:43-44

My prayer is that you readers of One Bread, One Body will constantly be "faithful, farsighted" servants of
God (Lk 12:42), busy sowing His Word in season and out of season (Lk 12:42; 2 Tm 4:2). If you are faithful
in doing this, Jesus "will put you in charge of larger affairs" (Mt 25:21). In fact, He promises He will put
you "in charge of all His property" (Lk 12:44).

What is God's property? Of what will He put you in charge?

*Life (Ez 18:4):I would rejoice to see you readers in charge of all governmental decisions on
right-to-life matters.
*Food: Jesus will use you as other Josephs, feeding the starving of the world
(Gn 41:57; Jn 21:15; Lk 12:42) and ensuring human greed does not deprive anyone of food.
*Money (see Hg 2:8):The world has used money to enslave poor nations under impossible debt loads. Jesus
came to set captives free through you (Lk 4:18; Is 58:6-7).
*Power (Mt 28:18, RNAB):"You will receive power" from the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). Many use power
unjustly. Jesus will use your power for justice (Rm 6:13).

If I, a mere human, find joy in visualizing you readers in charge of Jesus' property, consider the greater
joy of Jesus in putting you in charge! Therefore, be busy about His work now, be put in charge (Lk 12:42-44),
and "share your Master's joy!" (Mt 25:21)

Prayer: Jesus, "here I am...Send me!" (Is 6:8)

Promise: "Be on guard, therefore. The Son of Man will come when you least expect Him." -Lk 12:40

Praise: Risen Jesus, by Your death and resurrection, You have set us free to do Your will. We exalt Your
powerful name.

Brothers and sisters: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will
also reap bountifully. Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a
cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always
having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: He scatters abroad,
he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread
for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

Fear is useless. LORD please look kindly on the petitions posted and all the requests said silently in our
hearts.

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

END HUNGER

"WE MUST DO BETTER"

We are all called to go further. We can and we must do better for the helpless. We must move to concrete
action, so that the scourge of hunger disappears completely.

WE CAN DO IT

We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become an
action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this end we
need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the other's
problems one's own.

"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"

There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and this
ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all religious
persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and consists in
"doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."

SOW SO - One Bread, One Body, 8/10/2019

Saturday, August 10, 2019, St. Lawrence

2 Corinthians 9:6-10, Psalm 112:1-2, 5-9, John 12:24-26

SOW SO

"God can multiply His favors among you." -2 Corinthians 9:8

August is an expensive month. Vacations, picnics, entertainment, air conditioners, and school clothes don't come free. As we start to see the summer passing, many people feel so empty they try one more summer fling. And, of course, flings cost money. When we see our money ending before our summer ends, we try to cut corners. Usually we give God, His Church, and His work very little or nothing, and spend our money amusing ourselves. Consequently, most ministries, including this one, wonder each year if they'll survive the summer.

God's Word tells us what to do in the summer crunch. It says: "He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully. Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor 9:6-7).

Now is the time to take our little money and sow it for God's kingdom. "He will multiply the seed you sow and increase your generous yield" (2 Cor 9:10). If we expect a bountiful harvest, we must sow bountifully.

Prayer: Father, may it take faith to give what I give to Your kingdom.

Promise: "I solemnly assure you, unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it produces much fruit." -Jn 12:24

Praise: St. Lawrence, a deacon, exemplified courage as a martyr. Tradition tells us he was roasted to death on a gridiron. He taught that the sick, crippled, impoverished, and poor were the treasures of the Church.

(For a related teaching on "The Bible on Money", order, download or view our booklet on our website.)

ON THE VERGE

"You led Your people like a flock." -Psalm 77:21

In today's first eucharistic reading, Moses has led the Israelites through the desert for forty years. The people are now on the verge of entering into the Promised Land. They're so close to reaching their long-awaited goal that they can almost taste it. Before crossing into the land, Moses stops the people on the verge and has them recall what God has done for them. Through a long discourse that comprises the entire book of Deuteronomy, Moses pauses and reminds his people that it's more important to possess the God of the promises than it is to possess the fruits of the fulfillment of His promises.

Jesus pauses before the final leg of His journey to Jerusalem and Calvary. On the verge of reaching the end of His journey, He calls a time-out and says to His disciples (and to us): "Are you really going to follow Me or not? (see Mt 16:24) Are you looking for what I can give you? Or are you looking to follow Me out of love regardless of what I give you?" (see Mt 16:25-26)

Are you on the verge? Perhaps you're about to accept a new job, move into a new town, start a new school year, get married, etc. Take some time today and pause. Stop. Be still (Ps 46:11). What do you need to change in your life to be a more faithful disciple? Make the change now, while you're on the verge. Then move forward, follow Jesus, and carry your cross into the rest of your life.

Prayer: Father, whether I reach the place of promise or spend my life in dire straits, I will seek You above any temporal blessings. Keep me faithful to Your teaching and never let me be parted from You.

Promise: "You must now know, and fix in your heart, that the Lord is God...and that there is no other." -Dt 4:39

Praise: Edith Stein was Jewish, but converted to Catholicism and became the nun, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. She acknowledged her heritage and the Nazis put her to death in Auschwitz.
