THE MISSION TO THE UNBELIEVERS
"It has been a point of honor with me never to preach in places where Christ's name was already known." -Romans 15:20
Paul focused on proclaiming Christ to people who had never heard of Jesus. We may not have the same call, but we should maximize opportunities to share our faith with unbelievers. For example, we should join groups in which unbelievers participate. This gives us a forum in which to share our faith. We should invite unbelievers to share meals with us. We love them whether or not they accept the Lord, and want to show it in simple, practical ways.
We should develop the habit of striking up a conversation with anybody, even strangers. Sometimes this will open up the opportunity for us to give others the most precious gift, life with Christ. We should also pray to meet unbelievers. We will better recognize opportunities to share our faith if we make ourselves available for the Lord's work with unbelievers. Finally, like Jesus, we must be willing to suffer at the hands of unbelievers and for their benefit. We want so much for them to live for Jesus that we are willing to die for them.
Prayer: Father, bring more unbelievers into my life. Help me love them and share You with them.
Promise: "God has given me the grace to be a minister of Christ Jesus among the Gentiles, with the priestly duty of preaching the gospel of God so that the Gentiles may be offered up as a pleasing sacrifice, consecrated by the Holy Spirit." -Rm 15:15-16
Praise: Like his namesake, Peter prays for street beggars.

JUST MERCY TO ALL
"Every one of us will have to give an account of himself before God." -Romans 14:12
My son is a teacher. Recently, a thief stole his computer bag, which contained his laptop computer, numerous student homework papers which he had already graded, his social security card, passport, and checkbook. This will cost him much money, time, and re-work. It's difficult to comprehend that this thief can so readily be saved by the mercy of God at some future time without making restitution to my son for the damages inflicted.
That, however, is the essence of what we believe as Christians. In some mysterious way, Jesus provides both mercy to sinners and justice to victims. Jesus Himself sits on His judgment seat to give perfect justice to all (Rm 14:10). He restores all damages to all victims of all time. In Jesus, victims "have no further misfortune to fear" (Zep 3:15). The Lord promises: "I will repay you for the years which the locust has eaten," the thief has stolen, and the sinner has ruined (see Jl 2:25). When the Lord repays, He doesn't do it halfway. He restores far greater than we could ever ask or imagine (see Eph 3:20). "We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love" Him (Rm 8:28).
"God is rich in mercy" (Eph 2:4) and justice (Rm 14:10, 12). If you are a victim, choose to let God do the restoring instead of acting in vengeance. "Leave it to the Lord...trust in Him, and He will act" (Ps 37:7, 5).
Prayer: Jesus, my Justice (1 Cor 1:30) and my Mercy, help me to be stouthearted and wait with courage for You to reign over all (Ps 27:14).
Promise: "This Man welcomes sinners and eats with them." -Lk 15:2
Praise: David teaches RCIA to those interested in becoming Catholic.

DISCIPLESHIP: THE BEST LIFE POSSIBLE - One Bread, One Body, 11/6/2019

DISCIPLESHIP: THE BEST LIFE POSSIBLE
"If anyone comes to Me without turning his back on his father and mother, his wife and his children, his brothers and sisters, indeed his very self, he cannot be My follower." -Luke 14:26
To be a disciple of Jesus is the most radical commitment. The relationship of Jesus' disciples with Him is in a class by itself. In comparison with our love for Jesus, all other loves seem as hatred. Our relationship with Jesus is to be supreme. It is more important than our lives.
We will gladly carry daily crosses to be faithful as Jesus' disciples (Lk 14:27; 9:23). As Jesus' disciples, we are privileged to renounce Satan and all his works, to lose our lives (Lk 9:24), and to renounce all our possessions (Lk 14:33). One day as Jesus' disciple is better than a thousand days elsewhere (Ps 84:11). It is better to suffer as Jesus' disciple than to have all the pleasures money can buy (see Acts 5:41).
Jesus is God. "All [things] were created through Him, and for Him. He is before all else that is. In Him everything continues in being" (Col 1:16-17). Jesus is the Lord of lords and the King of kings "Who dwells in unapproachable light" (1 Tm 6:15, 16). He is Love Himself (see 1 Jn 4:8, 16). It is amazing that Jesus would call anyone to be His disciple. Yet even more amazingly He has chosen us (Jn 15:16). Let us rejoice in our discipleship and live it faithfully until death.
Prayer: Father, send the Holy Spirit to make me the best disciple I can be.
Promise: "Owe no debt to anyone except the debt that binds us to love one another." -Rm 13:8
Praise: Although bedridden, Alice prays for those who do not pray.

UNDER-ACHIEVERS? - One Bread, One Body, 11/5/2019

UNDER-ACHIEVERS?
"Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them." -Romans 12:6, RNAB
The Lord has given His children great gifts. Among the greatest of these gifts are charisms, the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit. We have gifts of prophecy, faith, ministry, teaching, exhortation, almsgiving, leadership, and mercy (Rm 12:6-8). None of us has all these gifts, but we have many of them - in addition to many other charisms. By the development and use of these gifts of the Spirit, we will have the power to do even greater works than Jesus did (Jn 14:12).
This comes as a surprise to most people because Christians don't seem to be so gifted and powerful. We have been so weak as to let a culture of death develop and then dominate us - not because we are not gifted, but because we have not developed our gifts. As the Lord was giving us several opportunities to learn about our charisms and exercise them, we found excuse after excuse not to grow in His grace (see Lk 14:18ff).
The Lord has made His children the most powerful people on earth. It is a tragedy when we don't try to develop our life-saving, world-changing gifts. Therefore, the Lord commands us: "Set your hearts on spiritual gifts" (1 Cor 14:1).
Prayer: Father, I repent of settling for a half-life. Give me a full life in the Spirit.
Promise: "Do not grow slack but be fervent in spirit; He Whom you serve is the Lord." -Rm 12:11
Praise: When George gave his life to Christ he was filled with zeal to take Him to others.

TERMS OF REPAYMENT - One Bread, One Body, 11/4/2019
Monday, November 4, 2019, St. Charles Borromeo
Romans 11:29-36, Psalm 69:30-31, 33-34, 36-37, Luke 14:12-14

TERMS OF REPAYMENT
"You should be pleased that they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid in the resurrection of the just." -Luke 14:14
Jesus is not against our being repaid for the good we do. His concern is when we will be repaid and by whom. God the Father plans to personally repay us at our resurrection (Lk 14:14). Upon reading this, we might feel like God has paid for our service by using a layaway plan! Will our payment ever come? In His love, God does repay us to a certain extent during our time on earth. He begins His eternal repayment plan a bit early by "depositing the First Payment, the [Holy] Spirit, in our hearts" (2 Cor 1:22).
Once we receive the Holy Spirit, we serve Him with such devotion and power that the world opposes us. Next comes our second payment on earth. St. Teresa of Avila once remarked to God: "How true it is that whoever works for You is paid in troubles! And what a precious price to those who love You if we understand its value." To read the fine print on the terms of this second payment, read Sirach 2:1, 2 Timothy 3:12, and James 1:2-4.
As always, the Lord wants to purify our motives for serving Him. If we serve Him to be repaid in the currency of this world, we should "expect no recompense from" the Father (Mt 6:1).
"Who has given a gift to Him that he might be repaid?" (Rm 11:35, RSV-CE) God does not owe us anything. Yet no one can outgive God. "Do not, then, surrender your confidence [in God]; it will have great reward" (Heb 10:35). "Look out that you yourselves do not lose what you have worked for; you must receive your reward in full" (2 Jn 8).
Prayer: Father, may I serve You not for hope of repayment, but simply because I love You with all my heart.
Promise: "The Lord hears the poor." -Ps 69:34
Praise: St. Charles had a hand in the reform of the whole Church during the final years of the Council of Trent.

PM eNewsletter 31st Sunday in ordinary time
November 3rd, 31st Sunday in ordinary time
Jesus, time is just going by so fast it seems like just a short time ago it was yesterday.
Help us not to let each day go by without taking time to talk to You, adore You, intercede to You and just
spend time with You.
Let us realize that each day is a call for us to be prayer warriors for all who need prayer.
Let us also pray for the poor souls in purgatory, especially those who have no one to pray for them.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday MERCY OVER JUSTICE (JAS 2:13)
https://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/3/2019
"You have mercy on all, because You can do all things; and You overlook the sins of men that they may
repent." -Wisdom 11:23
Before we sin, the devil tells us that sin is "no big deal," life is trivial, and guilt is an unnecessary
hang-up. After we sin, the devil changes his tune and then tells us that we should be ashamed of ourselves,
that we are monsters and perverts, and that we can't expect to be forgiven.
In contrast, the Lord tells us of His mercy. Paul proclaimed: "You can depend on this as worthy of full
acceptance: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of these I myself am the worst. But on
that very account I was dealt with mercifully" (1 Tm 1:15-16). The psalmist rejoiced that the Lord's mercy
was everlasting (Ps 136). As much as the Lord desires sacrifice, He desires mercy even more (Mt 9:13; 12:7).
He so desires to show us mercy that He suffered and died, thereby meeting the demands of justice and opening
the door for mercy.
Therefore, the Church repeatedly leads us to ask the Lord, the Lamb of God, to have mercy on us. The Lord
wants to extend His mercy to all: the ashamed, the hated, abortionists, sexual perverts, murderers, rapists,
and even us. Accept the grace to go to Confession as soon as possible. Pray: "Lord, have mercy."
Prayer: Lord, by Your grace may I be merciful to those who continue to hurt me (see Mt 5:7).
Promise: "Today salvation has come to this house." -Lk 19:9
Praise: "We know that Christ, once raised from the dead, will never die again; death has no more power over
him" (Rm 6:9).

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
END HUNGER
WE CAN DO IT
We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become an
action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this end we
need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the other's
problems one's own.
"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"
There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and this
ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all religious
persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and consists in
"doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."
DON'T BE INDIFFERENT
... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves to
succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a dignified
life.

Let us use each day to be all that You want us to be.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.
