The editor

April 5th Passion Sunday

Merciful God, Your love for us goes beyond measure.

It is really, very, very hard for us to truly understand the love
that You have for us.

A love that led You to the cross, so that we might be saved,
and have eternal life.

Jesus, we all caused Your agony, and pain, and yet You
forgave us.

Your love cannot be measured.

Jesus, grace us to love all, as You love.

Jesus, grace us to forgive all, as You have forgiven us.

Grant us the desire to come and sit before Your crucifix, and
truly spend time in seeing Your love for us hanging on the cross.

Let us be amazed and humbled, help us to get to the
Sacrament of reconciliation, and so enter into Easter free
of the stain of humanity's sins. Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday THE PUNCH LINE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?d=4/5/2009

"Clearly this Man was the Son of God!" —Mark 15:39

Mark, in his Gospel, portrays Jesus as abandoned by all. The
priests turn against Him (Mk 15:1-3). Soldiers mock Him
(Mk 15:16-20). So do the thieves crucified on either side of
Him (Mk 15:32). His disciples fall asleep while Jesus is
praying in the garden, then they abandon Him and flee when
He is arrested (Mk 14:37ff, 50). Judas even betrays Him
while pretending to show affection for Jesus (Mk 14:45).
Finally, after suffering hours of agony, Jesus quotes
Psalm 22:2, possibly to confirm the sense of utter
abandonment, and then dies.

At the foot of Jesus' cross stands the Roman centurion, a
military man who commanded one hundred soldiers. He
bore the responsibility of certifying to the Roman leadership
that the crucified men in his charge were truly dead. The
centurion had undoubtedly observed numerous crucifixions,
and was accustomed to observing the ignominious death
of defeated enemies. Jesus' crucifixion likewise pointed to
abject failure and abandonment. By human standards, we
would expect the centurion to exclaim: "What a failure!
What a fraud! He got what He deserved." Instead the
centurion declared, "Clearly this Man was the Son of God!" (Mk 15:39)

The centurion's declaration is the "punch line" of Mark's
Gospel. Get the point. Accept Jesus as Lord, Savior, and
God. Then live in a manner worthy of one for whom God
has died. Have a holy Holy Week.

· Through the New Testament in Easter
http://presentationministries.com/brochures/NTEaster.asp
After Jesus rose from the dead, He spent the afternoon
walking almost seven miles with two disciples. On this walk,
Jesus interpreted for them every passage of the Scriptures
which referred to Him (Lk 24:27). On the evening of that first
Easter Sunday, Jesus opened the apostles' minds to the
understanding of the Scriptures (Lk 24:45). Jesus made it
clear from the several hours He spent in the word on the first
resurrection-day that believing deeply in His resurrection and
hearing God's word were interrelated.

With this in mind, I invite you to read the whole New Testament
in the fifty-day Easter season. The Lord will give you the grace
to be faithful to this discipline. Ask and you shall
receive (Mt 7:7). I suggest that you ........................

The Secret of Fasting

Fasting is limiting our intake of food in response to God's call
and for the building of His kingdom. Almost all the great men
and women of God throughout history have known a secret, the
secret of fasting. They have understood the power and the
privilege of fasting. We cannot fast unless we have God's
permission. But when God permits us to fast, we have the
opportunity to be in the forefront of His work. We are honored
to be chosen to have such an important part in the Spirit's
movement. Fasting is a power, privilege, opportunity, and honor.
But only those who know the secret recognize this.

OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT FASTING

Throughout much of the Old Testament, there was only one
fast day, the Day of Atonement (Lev 16:29). Later, other fasts
were called for either because of a state of emergency or on
the anniversary of a national tragedy (Zech 7:3-4). Fasting
was an attempt to end a terrible circumstance.

In the new covenant, we fast in a different way, as

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

YOUTH AND HOPE

"A SPECIAL TIME OF HOPE"

Youth is a special time of hope because it looks to the future with
a whole range of expectations. When we are young we cherish
ideals, dreams and plans. Youth is the time when decisive choices
concerning the rest of our lives come to fruition.

NO GUARANTEE

Experience shows that personal qualities and material goods are
not enough to guarantee the hope which the human spirit is
constantly seeking.

"THE CRISIS OF HOPE"

The crisis of hope is more likely to affect the younger generations.
In socio-cultural environments with few certainties, values or firm
points of reference, they find themselves facing difficulties that
seem beyond their strength.
