THE LEFT-OUT CAN REACH OUT
Jesus "watched two brothers, Simon now known as Peter, and his brother Andrew." -Matthew 4:18
Andrew was one of the first two disciples to follow Jesus (Jn 1:40). Andrew even led his brother, Simon Peter, to Jesus (Jn 1:41). Andrew, with Peter, James, and John, was called by Jesus to become a fisher of men (Mt 4:19).
However, Andrew's prominence did not continue. Jesus did not include Andrew in His inner circle of apostles. Only Peter, James, and John were included at the raising of Jairus' daughter from the dead (Mk 5:37), the Transfiguration (Mk 9:2), and the agony in the garden of Gethsemani (Mt 26:37). Andrew was conspicuously not invited.
What do you do when you're number four in a threesome, the fourth leg for a tripod, or the fourth "member" of a trio? Most people respond to being left out by jealousy, unforgiveness, and/or self-pity. Andrew responded by persevering in his original commitment. He continued to abandon everything to be a fisher of men. He became the "designated evangelist" among the apostles. When several Greeks asked Philip to take them to Jesus, Philip took them to Andrew to take them to Jesus (Jn 12:21-22).
When you're left out, reach out. Share your love for Jesus, Who has been left out and rejected throughout His life on earth, even to the present day. He was rejected - from His birth in a manger to His death on a cross. When Jesus was and is left out, He reaches out to us in love. Be like Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I not have pity parties but Jesus-parties.
Promise: "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." -Rm 10:9
Praise: St. Andrew is said to have preached for several days from the cross upon which he died.

THE END IS NEAR!
"Babylon the great city shall be cast down." -Revelation 18:21
The book of Revelation was written near the end of the first century. Its message gave consolation and encouragement to Christians suffering terrible persecution from Roman emperors. In today's first reading, an angel from heaven announces the fall of Rome. God encouraged His first century Christians by telling them there will be an end to injustice, wickedness, and persecution (Rv 18:20). If you are trapped in an oppressive situation, the announcement of the end of your plight is sweet news indeed.
Maybe you are so trapped in sin, addiction, a difficult marriage, spiraling financial woes, raising a wayward child, social injustice, or a dead-end job that you can't see the light at the end of your tunnel. Perhaps you don't even know there is an end to the tunnel. When there's no end in sight, it might be that the end is near. Because the one "who holds out to the end" will be saved (Mt 24:13), Satan certainly wants us to believe that there is no end in sight. If he can tempt us into believing our situation is beyond hope and without end, he knows we can more readily fall into despair and abandon God.
Jesus can change any situation "in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Cor 15:52). He is our Hope. In fact, Jesus is "the End" (Rv 22:13), and "the End" is near, "with [us] always, until the end" (Mt 28:20). Therefore, never give up hope. "Those who hope in [the Lord] shall never be disappointed" (Is 49:23).
Prayer: Father, "I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with all my heart" (Ps 138:1) for inviting me to Your heavenly feast (Rv 19:9).
Promise: "Know that the Lord is God; He made us, His we are; His people, the flock He tends." -Ps 100:3
Praise: Mitch forgave both his wife and the man with whom she had an affair.

SINGING IN THE REIGN - One Bread, One Body, 11/28/2012

SINGING IN THE REIGN
"They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb." -Revelation 15:3
We Christians will be persecuted by both the religious and secular authorities (Lk 21:12). As Jesus was betrayed by Judas, we will be betrayed even by our "parents, brothers, relatives and friends" (Lk 21:16). Some of us "will be put to death" (Lk 12:16). All will hate us because of our love for Jesus (Lk 21:17). Our reaction to all this bad news is not to "hang down our heads and cry." Rather, "when these things begin to happen, stand erect and hold your heads high, for your deliverance is near at hand" (Lk 21:28).
In the last days, the world will be pounded by seven plagues, by wave after wave of destruction (Rv 15:1). We do not react to this with fear, stress, or confusion. Instead, we stand up, hold our heads high, and by faith break out into song (Rv 15:3). Like the three men in the fiery furnace, we create a safe place in the midst of the destroying flames by singing God's praises (Dn 3:51). Like Paul and Silas, we sing up an earthquake, praise our way out of jail, and even convert the jailer and his family (Acts 16:25ff).
When times are tough, God's people sing. When God's people sing in faith, we see deliverance, protection, power, freedom, and conversion. St. Augustine declared: "He who sings prays twice." That's not the half of it. Sing to the Lord!
Prayer: Father, may my songs of faith protect babies in the womb from abortion.
Promise: "By patient endurance you will save your lives." -Lk 21:19
Praise: Louise has been praying the morning and evening prayers in the Liturgy of the Hours for over twenty years.

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER - One Bread, One Body, 11/27/2012

Revelation 14:14-19, Psalm 96:10-13, Luke 21:5-11

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER
"Use your sickle and cut down the harvest, for now is the time to reap; the earth's harvest is fully ripe." -Revelation 14:15
Because of Steinbeck's novel, many people have heard the phrase, "the grapes of wrath." Biblically, this evokes an eerie image of divine judgment. Picture millions of grapes thrown "into the huge wine press of God's wrath" (Rv 14:19). "So much blood [pours] out of the wine press that for two hundred miles around, it [reaches] as high as a horse's bridle" (Rv 14:20).
However, on Judgment Day, we will see the harvest consisting of not only the grapes of God's wrath but also the wheat of God's mercy. Jesus Himself will harvest "the citizens of the kingdom" (Mt 13:38). "Then the saints will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom" (Mt 13:43).
We all will be harvested. Will we be harvested as wheat or weeds? (Mt 13:24-25) Wheat or grapes? Sheep or goats? (Mt 25:32) Will our future be love or wrath? What will happen to us? "God has not destined us for wrath but for acquiring salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us, that all of us, whether awake or asleep, together might live with Him" (1 Thes 5:9-10).
If Jesus has His way, the Last Judgment will be a day of greatest joy on which we receive God the Father's blessing and inherit the kingdom prepared for us from the creation of the world (Mt 25:34). Let Jesus have His way. If you live and work for His harvest (see Mt 9:38), you will be harvested as wheat.
Prayer: Jesus, harvest me into Your everlasting kingdom.
Promise: "The Lord is King. He has made the world firm, not to be moved; He governs the peoples with equity." -Ps 96:10
Praise: Sandra thanked God when her hearing was miraculously restored during a healing service at a retreat. She rejoiced even more in the improvement of her spiritual hearing after she received the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

THE NEW SONG - One Bread, One Body, 11/26/2012

Revelation 14:1-5, Psalm 24:1-6, Luke 21:1-4

THE NEW SONG
"They were singing a new hymn before the throne, in the presence of the four living creatures and the elders. This hymn no one could learn except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been ransomed from the world." -Revelation 14:3
Those in heaven can sing the new song of the Lamb. Only those baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit can sing the new song (Mt 28:19). They alone sing the new song who are so immersed in the Holy Trinity that they are branded on their foreheads with the names of the Father and the Son (Rv 14:1). Only those begotten and owned by God sing the new song. They "are pure and follow the Lamb wherever He goes" (Rv 14:4).
To sing the new song means to live the new life in Christ, to love Him with all our hearts, and to "bless the Lord at all times" (Ps 34:2). To sing the new song means to be a people of praise because we are a people of love. To love and to praise the Lord means that we have been purified by obedience to the truth (1 Pt 1:22). This means we have been saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8) and have been created "to lead the life of good deeds which God prepared for us in advance" (Eph 2:10).
Forever sing the new song of salvation and live the new life of love, praise, purification, and obedience. By faith with good works, accept the grace to sing the new song.
Prayer: Father, teach me how to praise You always and forever.
Promise: "This poor widow has put in more than all the rest. They make contributions out of their surplus, but she from her want has given what she could not afford - every penny she had to live on." -Lk 21:3-4
Praise: Karen resolved to pray for the Pope and bishops rather than criticize them.

Jesus was put to death on the cross because He claimed to be the King of the Jews. Since
that was Jesus' crime, it was inscribed in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek above His head on the
cross (Jn 19:19-20).
On the feast of Christ the King, are you saying "on your own" (Jn 18:34) that Jesus is
King or are you just observing the traditions of the Church by reading, praying, and
singing "King-things" out of the missalette or songbook? If you are accepting "on your
own" that Jesus is the King, you will be rejected and persecuted as He was. Because Jesus
is not just a king but the King of kings (see Rv 1:5), He and His followers are a threat
to all other kings and rulers, unless these acknowledge His supremacy. Therefore, He was
crucified, and His subjects share in His sufferings (see Phil 3:10).
To celebrate today's feast day without hypocrisy, to truly accept Jesus as King, you must
love Him enough to live and die for Him by giving everything to purchase the precious
pearl of His kingdom (Mt 13:44, 46). Will you celebrate Christ the King on your own, or
will you merely mouth what others tell you to say?
Prayer: King Jesus, I live and die for love of You alone.
Promise: "His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, His
kingship shall not be destroyed." -Dn 7:14
Praise: "Sing praise to our King, sing praise. For the King of all the earth is God, sing
praise" (Ps 47:7-8). Praise Jesus, enthroned forever as King!

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
VATICAN II AND FAITH
"ONGOING VITALITY"
...aggiornamento does not mean a break with tradition, but expresses its ongoing
vitality; it does not mean reducing the faith, debasing it to the fashion of the times,
measured by what pleases us, by what pleases public opinion, but it is the contrary:
exactly as the Council Fathers did, we must bring the "today" that we live to the
standard of the Christian event, we must bring the "today" of our time to the "today"
of God.
"TIME OF GRACE"
The Council was a time of grace in which the Holy Spirit taught us that the Church, in
her journey through history, must always speak to the people of today. But this can
only happen through the strength of those who are deeply rooted in God, who allow
themselves to be guided by Him and live out their faith with purity.
CALLED TO HOLINESS
The Council ... stated that everyone in the Church is called to holiness... Holiness
reveals the true face of the Church, it ushers the eternal "today" of God into the
"today" of our life, into the "today" of the people of our time.

"ON YOUR OWN" - One Bread, One Body, 11/25/2012

"ON YOUR OWN"
"Are you saying this on your own, or have others been telling you about Me?" -John 18:34
Jesus was put to death on the cross because He claimed to be the King of the Jews. Since that was Jesus' crime, it was inscribed in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek above His head on the cross (Jn 19:19-20).
On the feast of Christ the King, are you saying "on your own" (Jn 18:34) that Jesus is King or are you just observing the traditions of the Church by reading, praying, and singing "King-things" out of the missalette or songbook? If you are accepting "on your own" that Jesus is the King, you will be rejected and persecuted as He was. Because Jesus is not just a king but the King of kings (see Rv 1:5), He and His followers are a threat to all other kings and rulers, unless these acknowledge His supremacy. Therefore, He was crucified, and His subjects share in His sufferings (see Phil 3:10).
To celebrate today's feast day without hypocrisy, to truly accept Jesus as King, you must love Him enough to live and die for Him by giving everything to purchase the precious pearl of His kingdom (Mt 13:44, 46). Will you celebrate Christ the King on your own, or will you merely mouth what others tell you to say?
Prayer: King Jesus, I live and die for love of You alone.
Promise: "His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, His kingship shall not be destroyed." -Dn 7:14
Praise: "Sing praise to our King, sing praise. For the King of all the earth is God, sing praise" (Ps 47:7-8). Praise Jesus, enthroned forever as King!

GIFT-EXCHANGE - One Bread, One Body, 11/24/2012

GIFT-EXCHANGE
"The earth's inhabitants gloat over them and in their merriment exchange gifts, because these two prophets harassed everyone on earth." -Revelation 11:10
Yesterday and today are probably the two biggest shopping days of the year. People are compulsively buying Christmas gifts to exchange with others.
A gift-exchange is also mentioned in the book of Revelation. The whole world is involved in this gift-exchange. The occasion for such merriment is the supposed destruction of God's Church, represented by the death of the two witnesses (Rv 11:3, 7ff). The world will have quite a party, complete with gifts, when they think the Church is destroyed.
Jesus said that we would be hated by all on account of Him (Lk 21:17). Nonetheless, few expect it to be that bad. However, it will come to a point that people will consider it their patriotic and religious duty to destroy the members of God's Church (see Jn 16:2). When the Church seems finally dead, there'll be a shopping spree and a gift-exchange. Yet the Church will rise from the dead, as Jesus its Head rose. "Sheer terror" will grip our enemies, and we will go up to heaven in a cloud while our enemies look on (Rv 11:11-12).
Prayer: Father, at the end, may I not give in to the pressure to apostatize (2 Thes 2:3).
Promise: "God is not the God of the dead but of the living. All are alive for Him." -Lk 20:38
Praise: The Vietnamese martyrs, 117 known witnesses who gave their lives for their faith in Jesus Christ, included bishops, priests, religious, and laity.

CLEAN HOUSE - One Bread, One Body, 11/23/2012

CLEAN HOUSE
Jesus "entered the Temple and began ejecting..." -Luke 19:45
Invite Jesus to enter the temple of your body and "put your house in order" (Is 38:1). Our bodies are to be temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19) and houses of prayer (Lk 19:46). "Tell me what agreement there is between the temple of God and idols. You are the temple of the living God" (2 Cor 6:16). "Therefore, 'Come out from among them and separate yourselves from them,' says the Lord; 'and touch nothing unclean' " (2 Cor 6:17). We are not to be dens of thieves (Lk 19:46) but edifices "of spirit, into a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" (1 Pt 2:5).
Therefore, "do not yield to the desires that once shaped you in your ignorance. Rather, become holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct, after the likeness of the Holy One Who called you; remember, Scripture says, 'Be holy, for I am holy' " (1 Pt 1:14-16). At the cross, Jesus has given us "a fountain to purify from sin and uncleanness" (Zec 13:1). Be pure as Jesus is pure (1 Jn 3:3).
Prayer: Father, "wipe out my offense. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt and of my sin cleanse me" (Ps 51:3-4). "A clean heart create for me" (Ps 51:12).
Promise: "You must prophesy again for many peoples and nations, languages and kings." -Rv 10:11
Praise: When exiled from France for spreading the Faith, a storm swept St. Columban back into the country to evangelize anew.

"THE PATH TO PEACE" (Lk 19:42)
"You failed to recognize the time of your visitation." -Luke 19:44
King Jesus visited the people of Jerusalem. They refused to accept Him as King and wouldn't rest until He was nailed to a cross. Refusing to accept Jesus as King had disastrous consequences. They could have had peace (Lk 19:42). Instead, in 70 A.D., they were surrounded by their enemies, the Romans, and Jerusalem was completely destroyed (see Lk 19:43-44).
In today's psalm, the people do recognize the visitation of their King, the Messiah. "The children of Zion rejoice in their King" (Ps 149:2). They praise Him and dance in festive celebration (Ps 149:3). Instead of being surrounded by their enemies, they bind their enemies in chains, wiping them out (Ps 149:6-9).
Our enemy is Satan and his kingdom of darkness (Eph 6:12). He has surrounded us with his culture of death. He has wreaked havoc upon us, wiping out many millions of babies in the womb, inundating us with rampant perversion and impurity, eliminating prayer from schools, workplaces, and often churches, etc. The psalmist proclaims that victory over our wicked enemy lies in openly welcoming Jesus as King. Are we in this predicament because we have failed to recognize Jesus as our King?
In three days, the Church celebrates the great feast of Christ the King. In five weeks, we celebrate Jesus' Christmas coming. King Jesus is coming. What kind of reception will we give Him?
Prayer: Jesus, Lion of Judah, I ask You to roar through me.
Promise: "The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has won the right by His victory to open the scroll." -Rv 5:5
Praise: St. Cecilia "kept the Gospel of Christ ever near her heart; day or night she never ceased praying and speaking with God."

WORK-OUT
"He returned, however, crowned as king. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, to learn what profit each had made." -Luke 19:15
Today is the patronal feast of Presentation Ministries (PM). Today's Gospel passage resonates deeply for us. We at PM volunteer freely and receive no pay. God has given us many gifts and talents; in turn, we offer them to you without cost (see Mt 10:8). Because we want all to have the opportunity to receive our materials and services, whether or not they can afford them (see Is 55:1), we volunteer to work for Jesus. Often this has resulted in more conversions, and thus more work for us (Lk 19:26). Praise be to Jesus, Who allows all of us to share in His glorious work of conversion!
At PM, we are blessed with many brothers and sisters who work hard and produce a return for Jesus. However, not all those the Lord calls work hard for Him. Imagine an employee receiving training and salary and doing nothing for a year. At his year-end review with the boss, this employee tells the boss: "I didn't accomplish anything all year. But I took good care of my training manuals; I've stored them right in the front of my cabinet. Every day, I sat quietly at my desk, afraid that I might make a mistake and make you mad. You see, I know you hold your employees to high standards and I was afraid of failure."
Such an excuse is flimsy; the real excuse is: "Lord, I am afraid of You." Jesus says: "Fear is useless. What is needed is trust" (Mk 5:36). If you are afraid to work for Jesus, come to Him and confess that. The very desire to work for the Lord is a gift from Him (Phil 2:13), and He will gladly bestow this upon you. The Lord exhorts us: "Take courage...and work!" (Hg 2:4)
Prayer: Father, help me to serve You with gladness (Ps 100:2).
Promise: "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, He Who was, and Who is, and Who is to come!" -Rv 4:8
Praise: Anne and Joachim expressed their faith by presenting their daughter, Mary, to the Temple priests at age three to serve God.

MAKE LIKE A TREE
"He was trying to see what Jesus was like, but being small of stature, was unable to do so because of the crowd." -Luke 19:3
Zacchaeus was small of stature. Many people of all sizes, however, are small-hearted, petty, little people. They have trouble seeing Jesus, for they have trouble seeing beyond themselves.
Zacchaeus was unable to see Jesus because of the crowd (Lk 19:3). Greed, pride, hypocrisy, and lukewarmness (Rv 3:16) can crowd us out of seeing Jesus.
Zacchaeus overcame his smallness and the crowd by climbing a tree (Lk 19:4). Be like a tree upon which people can climb to rise above their smallness and the obstructions of the crowd.
The Lord says we become "like a tree" when we delight "in the law of the Lord" and meditate "on His law day and night" (Ps 1:2, 3). The person who loves and lives God's word is like a tree - the tree of life (see Gn 2:9), the tree that Jesus died on (Acts 13:29).
The poet Joyce Kilmer wrote: "Only God can make a tree." Only God can make us like trees which can give the Zacchaeuses of the world the opportunity to see the Savior. Make "like a tree planted near running water, that yields its fruit in due season" (Ps 1:3).
Prayer: Father, may I never be part of the lukewarm crowd (see Rv 3:16) obstructing others from seeing Jesus.
Promise: "The Son of Man has come to search out and save what was lost." -Lk 19:10
Praise: Jesus healed Maria of chronic sinus problems.

"I LOVE YOU MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY"
"You have turned aside from your early love." -Revelation 2:4
Think back to the time you first came to Jesus. If you are like most people, you were attracted to Jesus by His personal love for you. You thought of Jesus dying on the cross to forgive your sins, and you were overcome by His love for you. Or perhaps you or a loved one received a healing from Jesus (see Lk 18:43) and you were overwhelmed by His loving-kindness. The love of God was poured out in your heart (Rm 5:5). All you wanted to do was to think of Jesus, be with Jesus, and talk about Jesus.
Fast forward to today. How preoccupied with Jesus are you right now? Is He the Love of your life? Or have you taken your eyes off Jesus and found your joy in something else? If Jesus is no longer your Delight, it's not because He's stopped loving you. Jesus is Love (1 Jn 4:8). He loves you perfectly.
Love must always increase. If our love for Jesus isn't growing, then it has to be abating. If we turn aside from our early love for Jesus, He holds it against us (Rv 2:4). Hence Jesus warned against our love growing cold (Mt 24:12). When our love for Jesus decreases, we don't attract many people to Him.
People are hungry for love. Our blazing love for Jesus can draw many to Jesus. However, our lack of love for Jesus can turn them away from Jesus. There are two weeks left in this Church year. In the next two weeks, grow greatly in love. May you come to "grasp fully…the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love, and experience this love" (Eph 3:18-19).
Prayer: Jesus, may I realize how serious it is to turn away from loving You. Pour out Your love in my heart (Rm 5:5). May thousands come to know Your love through the love we share.
Promise: "Jesus said to him, 'Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.' " -Lk 18:42
Praise: Ron owed Norm several hundred dollars. Norm "was moved with pity" and "wrote off the debt" (Mt 18:27).

PM eNewsletter 33rd Sunday in ordinary time
November 18th 33rd Sunday in ordinary time
This week, Oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the "Presentation
of Mary".
Let us see in this feast that Your plan of our redemption was
unfolding in a very simple yet concise way.
Mary, our mother, the "new ark of the covenant" was brought to
God so as to be sealed in His love.
Mary, our mother, was always and still is, full of grace, and her
intercession is very powerful, for all of us.
We have a loving, caring mother who loves us and prays for us all.
Jesus, give us the grace to realize Your love, and the means
we can use to get the help we need to reach Your kingdom in
heaven, some day, thank You Jesus.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday STRESS MANAGEMENT?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=11/18/2012
"It shall be a time unsurpassed in distress since nations began until that time."
-Daniel 12:1
Today it is popular to talk about "stress management" and being "stressed out." The times
in which we live are very stressful. However, the end of the world will be much more
stressful. "Those times will be more distressful than any between God's work of creation
and now, and for all time to come" (Mk 13:19). The end-time will be more stressful than
the atom bombings and concentration camps of World War II, than plagues, earthquakes, and
other disasters. "Indeed, had the Lord not shortened the period, not a person would be
saved. But for the sake of those He has chosen, He has shortened the days" (Mk 13:20). At
the very end, even the strongest Christians will be pushed to their limits.
Why does the Lord tells us about the ultimate stress of the future? He is not trying to
increase our stress in the present, but to prepare us for the future and make the present
more peaceful. Jesus said: "I tell you all this that in Me you may find peace. You will
suffer in the world. But take courage! I have overcome the world" (Jn 16:33). Jesus
promised: "My peace is My gift to you; I do not give it to you as the world gives peace.
Do not be distressed or fearful" (Jn 14:27). We deal with stress not by getting out of
stressful circumstances, but by getting into Jesus. We don't manage stress; we let Jesus
our Lord manage us.
Prayer: Father, may I come to Jesus, take His yoke on me, and be refreshed (Mt 11:28-29).
Promise: "Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins and took His seat forever at the right hand
of God." -Heb 10:12
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, Emmanuel, "God with us!" You became flesh and dwelt among
us. Praise You for letting us see Your glory (Jn 1:14).

I have been working in construction this past year but my time with my company was cut short
because of the cunning of a co worker who got me fired by sabotaging my electrical work. Now
I am doing house/grounds keeping/ custodial work at the mall ( which is really not that bad
except for the inadequate pay ) all the while I am trying to find a full time position working
as an IT tech or network engineer, OR seek out a REPUTABLE electrical company through whom I
can get an apprenticeship. In the meantime, because of how my hiredate fell and the bimonthly
pay schedule, I will only be getting about a $50 check around the beginning of the month.
People are inquiring about hiring me independently to do some home remodel work. RISE UP!!
UNITE with us as we declare ALL IS WELL. Our God is Jehovah Jireh.

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
VATICAN II AND FAITH
"TRUE MEANING"
[Vatican II's] true meaning was and remains faith in Christ, the apostolic faith, animated by
the inner desire to communicate Christ to individuals and all people, in the Church's
pilgrimage along the pathways of history.
"VERY LIVELY, RICH AND FRUITFUL"
Many memories spring to mind ... of that very lively, rich and fruitful period which was the
Council.
"AGGIORNAMENTO"
... I would like to recall ... how one word, pronounced by Blessed John XXIII in a systematic
way, recurred again and again during the Council: the word aggiornamento [updating].

(Anthony T., New York, NY, United States, 11/17/2012 2:54:20 PM)

blood pressure and sleepless nights.Jesus I trust in You.
(Patricia, blackfalds, Alberta, Canada, 11/17/2012 1:13:50 PM)
Pray for all the sick and suffering, that their suffering would be offered up in preparation
for sins and sinners. For the conversion of all mankind, especially the most hardened hearts
and poor sinners. Jesus I Trust in YOU!

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/BST/bst2012-11.asp?navlink=latest

STRESS MANAGEMENT?
"It shall be a time unsurpassed in distress since nations began until that time." -Daniel 12:1
Today it is popular to talk about "stress management" and being "stressed out." The times in which we live are very stressful. However, the end of the world will be much more stressful. "Those times will be more distressful than any between God's work of creation and now, and for all time to come" (Mk 13:19). The end-time will be more stressful than the atom bombings and concentration camps of World War II, than plagues, earthquakes, and other disasters. "Indeed, had the Lord not shortened the period, not a person would be saved. But for the sake of those He has chosen, He has shortened the days" (Mk 13:20). At the very end, even the strongest Christians will be pushed to their limits.
Why does the Lord tells us about the ultimate stress of the future? He is not trying to increase our stress in the present, but to prepare us for the future and make the present more peaceful. Jesus said: "I tell you all this that in Me you may find peace. You will suffer in the world. But take courage! I have overcome the world" (Jn 16:33). Jesus promised: "My peace is My gift to you; I do not give it to you as the world gives peace. Do not be distressed or fearful" (Jn 14:27). We deal with stress not by getting out of stressful circumstances, but by getting into Jesus. We don't manage stress; we let Jesus our Lord manage us.
Prayer: Father, may I come to Jesus, take His yoke on me, and be refreshed (Mt 11:28-29).
Promise: "Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins and took His seat forever at the right hand of God." -Heb 10:12
Praise: Praise You, risen Jesus, Emmanuel, "God with us!" You became flesh and dwelt among us. Praise You for letting us see Your glory (Jn 1:14).

TEACHERS' COLLEGE
"Therefore, we owe it to such men to support them and thus to have our share in the work of truth." -3 John 8
Teaching is such an important part of God's plan that Jesus came into the world to teach (see Mk 1:27). The Holy Spirit has even given some members of the Church a special gift of teaching (see 1 Cor 12:28). Christian leaders "who do well as leaders deserve to be paid double, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching" (1 Tm 5:17). Teaching is so important that the devil brings forth "false teachers who will smuggle in pernicious heresies. They will go so far as to deny the Master Who acquired them for His own, thereby bringing on themselves swift disaster. Their lustful ways will lure many away. Through them, the true way will be made subject to contempt" (2 Pt 2:1-2). However, the Lord overcomes the devil and continues to send out His teachers.
We all can be a part of the great movement of the Holy Spirit in teaching God's people. Even if you don't have the spiritual gift of teaching, you are called to teach by virtue of your Baptism. Parents are especially called to teach the faith to their children (Dt 11:19; Eph 6:4). In the Catechism, the Church quotes St. Thomas Aquinas: "To teach in order to lead others to faith is the task of every preacher and of each believer" (904). Therefore, we should not welcome false teachers (2 Jn 10), while we should welcome true teachers (see 3 Jn 10), and be true teachers ourselves.
Prayer: Father, I love You so much that I will feed Jesus' sheep both physically and spiritually (see Jn 21:17).
Promise: "Will not God then do justice to His chosen who call out to Him day and night? Will He delay long over them, do you suppose? I tell you, He will give them swift justice." -Lk 18:7-8
Praise: St. Elizabeth died at age twenty-four and was canonized just four years later. After the death of her husband, she gave herself entirely to serving the poor.

THE FINAL WORD - One Bread, One Body, 11/16/2012
Friday, November 16, 2012, St. Margaret of Scotland, St. Gertrude
2 John 4-9, Psalm 119:1-2, 10-11, 17-18, Luke 17:26-37
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/111612.cfm
THE FINAL WORD
"It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the path of truth, just as we were commanded by the Father." -2 John 4
The rain in Noah's time resulted in a flood of massive destruction. The rain of fire and brimstone on Sodom also caused mass destruction. "It will be like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed" (Lk 17:30). How can we escape the massive, instantaneous destruction that is to come? Those will be saved who believe in Jesus (Acts 16:30-31; 4:12). "But when the Son of Man comes, will He find any faith on the earth?" (Lk 18:8)
"Faith comes through hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rm 10:17, our transl.). If Christians accept God's call to share and receive His word, some will hear God, have faith, and be saved from destruction. Otherwise, God's people will "perish for want of knowledge" (Hos 4:6) of Jesus, because "ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ" (Catechism, 133).
The Lord has sent many messengers of His word into the world (see Mt 21:34-37). Satan has responded to these messengers by sending "many deceitful men...into the world, men who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. Such is the deceitful one! This is the Antichrist!" (2 Jn 7) God does not want anyone to be destroyed (Mt 18:14). Therefore, the Lord is now sending forth more messengers of His Word to open the ears and build the life-saving faith of His people. The Lord asks: "Whom shall I send?" (Is 6:8) Let us all answer: "Send me!" (Is 6:8)
Prayer: Father, I will share Your Word in good times and in bad (see 2 Tm 4:2). I will break new ground in spreading Your Word.
Promise: "Anyone who is so 'progressive' that he does not remain rooted in the teaching of Christ does not possess God, while anyone who remains rooted in the teaching possesses both the Father and the Son." -2 Jn 9
Praise: St. Gertrude had the spiritual gift of moving people's hearts and leading them to think of nothing but God.

LOVE INCARNATE - One Bread, One Body, 11/15/2012

LOVE INCARNATE
"I find great joy and comfort in your love, because through you the hearts of God's people have been refreshed." -Philemon 7
One of God's primary ways of loving us is through people. Think of the person whose love has enabled you to know more deeply the love God has for you. This person has refreshed you through their love, bringing you "joy and comfort" (Phlm 7). When you were with this person, their love was so refreshing it was as though Jesus Himself was refreshing you (see Mt 11:28). When you look at their face, you know "God is Love" (1 Jn 4:8, 16).
"God so loved the world that He gave His only Son" (Jn 3:16). His love for us was so intense that it became incarnate in Jesus, so that God could love us even more intimately by taking on human flesh. God has loved us through Jesus, and now His plan is that we "love one another" (Jn 13:34). So that we can carry out His loving plan, "the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit" (Rm 5:5). Now we are missionaries of God's love, actively seeking to refresh the hearts of friends and enemies (Mt 5:44) by our love.
May love "be the root and foundation of your life" (Eph 3:17). Through your love, may many people "be able to grasp fully, with all the holy ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love, and experience this love which surpasses all knowledge" (Eph 3:18-19).
Prayer: Father, thank You for the people You send into my life to love and refresh me with Your love. May I in return bring Your love into many lives.
Promise: "The reign of God is already in your midst." -Lk 17:21
Praise: St. Albert was a brilliant scientist, theologian, teacher, defender of the Faith, and is a Doctor of the Church.

THANK YOU, JESUS! - One Bread, One Body, 11/14/2012

THANK YOU, JESUS!
"Where are the other nine?" -Luke 17:17
The Samaritan leper, "realizing that he had been cured, came back praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself on his face at the feet of Jesus and spoke His praises" (Lk 17:15-16). Jesus doesn't mention this so much because He desires to be thanked. Rather, He knows how necessary it is for our salvation that we "render constant thanks; such is God's will for" us (1 Thes 5:18).
In the passage immediately preceding this incident, Jesus also sheds light on man's posture before God. Jesus tells us, "When you have done all you have been commanded to do, say, 'We are useless servants. We have done no more than our duty' " (Lk 17:10). It's part of our fallen, human nature to take God's sheer, unmerited goodness to us for granted. Our human nature is so self-deceived that we can even expect God to "be grateful to" us because we serve Him (Lk 17:9).
"Jesus took the occasion to" comment on the importance of the proper relationship of man to God - humble, grateful praise (Lk 17:17ff). Refusing to give God thanks begins a downward spiral in our relationship with Him (Rm 1:21ff). We make a deliberate change in our posture toward God. We stand proud rather than lie prostrate. Our hearts are darkened; our minds lose wisdom and grow foolish (Rm 1:21-22). We slide into a lifestyle of sin and perversion (Rm 1:24ff), and so do "not see fit to acknowledge God" (Rm 1:28), which can lead us into hell (Mt 10:32-33).
The word Eucharist means "thanksgiving." Like the healed leper, make a thankful return to God (Ps 116:12) by dedicating yourself to Him in the Mass often, even daily. Thank You, Jesus!
Prayer: Father, I thank and praise You for making me worthy (Col 1:12), healed (Lk 17:15), and free (Rm 7:24-25). Alleluia!
Promise: "When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us." -Ti 3:4-5
Praise: Rita repented of adulterous conduct and returned to the Sacraments.
