ROAD WARRIOR

The women "hurried away from the tomb half-overjoyed, half-fearful, and ran to carry the good news to His disciples. Suddenly, without warning, Jesus stood before them and said, 'Peace!' " -Matthew 28:8-9

The women who came to Jesus' tomb on the first day of the week did not meet Jesus at the tomb but on the road. He told them to tell His brothers to travel the road to meet Him in Galilee (Mt 28:10). That first afternoon after His Resurrection Jesus Himself met two disciples on the road and journeyed with them for about seven miles (Lk 24:13ff). The Ethiopian eunuch was converted on "the road which goes from Jerusalem to Gaza" (Acts 8:26) and became the first person to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Saul, the apostle to the gentiles, was also converted on a road - the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3). Eventually, the name for what we now call "Christianity" was "the Way" (see Acts 9:2; 19:23; 22:4; 24:14, 22). This can also be translated "the road."

These accounts from early Christianity portray conversions on the road. The risen Lord invites us to follow Him on the road where we publicly and joyfully witness for Him. On this road we meet the risen Christ in ever deeper and more mysterious ways. Evangelizers and missionaries who share their faith "on the road" meet the risen Christ repeatedly. Their faith strengthens. Christians who fail to live and share their faith in the Lord may see it erode. Therefore, get on the road where you will meet the risen Jesus.

Prayer: Father, may my love for You make me a "road warrior."

Promise: "This is the Jesus God has raised up, and we are His witnesses." -Acts 2:32

Praise: Praise Jesus, "the Resurrection and the Life" (Jn 11:25) Alleluia!
