December 2nd The first Sunday of Advent
Here we are again, Jesus, into Christmas.
Please Lord, let this truly be a holy period, for us to prepare,
to herald Your birth.
Let us not get so wrapped up into presents, that we forget to
give You, the present of our love.
Let us see that in this amazing birth our eternal life factor was
now in play.
You came to give us all eternal life and You came to make
reparation for all of the sins that was ever or will be committed.
Let us be set on fire with love for You and the love You showed us.
Let us see You in others and be Christ to them, so that someday
we all may shine in heaven with You.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday MARANATHA!
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/2/2012
"The days are coming..." -Jeremiah 33:14
A new Church year begins with the season of Advent. How can we start this Church
year off on the right foot?
Human ventures begin with human efforts and plans. The Church, however, is led by
Jesus, the Head of the Church (Col 1:18), and so the Church is both human and
divine (Catechism, 779). Therefore, God initiates and we follow Him.
Here are some keys to the success of this Church year:
Will we vigilantly and patiently listen to the Lord each day for His
"instructions"? (1 Thes 4:2)
Will we receive God's plans in a spirit of docility and joyful submission?
Will we cooperate with God's plans or block them through our resistance or by
moving ahead without Him?
Will we "learn to make still greater progress" in living for Jesus? (1 Thes 4:1)
Will we "conduct [ourselves] in a way pleasing to God"? (1 Thes 4:1)
Will we "be on guard lest [our] spirits become bloated with indulgence and
drunkenness and worldly cares"? (Lk 21:34)
Will we be "blameless and holy"? (1 Thes 3:13)
The Lord's plans for the Church and for us are far "more than we ask or imagine"
(Eph 3:20). His "will be done" (Mt 6:10).
Prayer: Father, give us "the strength to escape whatever is in prospect" (Lk 21:36).
Promise: "The friendship of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and His
covenant, for their instruction." -Ps 25:14
Praise: Alleluia! Jesus is risen! Jesus will come again! Come, Lord Jesus!

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
VATICAN II AND FAITH
THE HEART OF THE MESSAGE
The Year of Faith ... suggests the best way to remember and commemorate the Council:
to focus on the heart of its message, which moreover is nothing other than the message
of faith in Jesus Christ, the one Savior of the world, proclaimed to the men and women
of our time.
"THE RAY OF GOD'S LOVE"
...What is important and essential is to bring the ray of God's love to the hearts and
lives of every man and woman, to bring every man and woman of every time and place to God.
CALLED TO HOLINESS
The Council ... stated that everyone in the Church is called to holiness... Holiness
reveals the true face of the Church, it ushers the eternal "today" of God into the
"today" of our life, into the "today" of the people of our time.

MARANATHA!
"The days are coming..." -Jeremiah 33:14
A new Church year begins with the season of Advent. How can we start this Church year off on the right foot?
Human ventures begin with human efforts and plans. The Church, however, is led by Jesus, the Head of the Church (Col 1:18), and so the Church is both human and divine (Catechism, 779). Therefore, God initiates and we follow Him.
Here are some keys to the success of this Church year:
* Will we vigilantly and patiently listen to the Lord each day for His "instructions"? (1 Thes 4:2)
* Will we receive God's plans in a spirit of docility and joyful submission?
* Will we cooperate with God's plans or block them through our resistance or by moving ahead without Him?
* Will we "learn to make still greater progress" in living for Jesus? (1 Thes 4:1)
* Will we "conduct [ourselves] in a way pleasing to God"? (1 Thes 4:1)
* Will we "be on guard lest [our] spirits become bloated with indulgence and drunkenness and worldly cares"? (Lk 21:34)
* Will we be "blameless and holy"? (1 Thes 3:13)
The Lord's plans for the Church and for us are far "more than we ask or imagine" (Eph 3:20). His "will be done" (Mt 6:10).
Prayer: Father, give us "the strength to escape whatever is in prospect" (Lk 21:36).
Promise: "The friendship of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and His covenant, for their instruction." -Ps 25:14

THE HAPPIEST ENDING - One Bread, One Body, 12/1/2012
Saturday, December 1, 2012
Revelation 22:1-7, Psalm 95:1-7, Luke 21:34-36

THE HAPPIEST ENDING
"The Lord God shall give them light, and they shall reign forever." -Revelation 22:5
Today is the last day of the Church year, and the Church calls us to read the last chapter of the Bible, which gives us a picture of heaven. We see "the river of life-giving water, clear as crystal, which issued from the throne of God and of the Lamb and flowed down the middle of the streets" (Rv 22:1-2). We see "the trees of life which produce fruit twelve times a year, once each month" (Rv 22:2). Best of all, we see Jesus "face to face" (Rv 22:4). We definitely have "a future full of hope" (Jer 29:11).
The Bible's last chapter will be fulfilled very soon because the Lord is coming very soon (Rv 22:7). To be prepared for His final coming and to inherit the kingdom of heaven, we must:
* bear Jesus' name on our foreheads (Rv 22:4). This means that we have totally, publicly, and permanently committed our lives to Jesus,
* "be on guard" lest our "spirits become bloated with indulgence and drunkenness and worldly cares" (Lk 21:34), and
* "pray constantly for the strength to escape whatever is in prospect, and to stand secure before the Son of Man" (Lk 21:36).
On the last day of the Church year, let's surrender our lives to Jesus, repent of our sins, forgive those who have hurt us, and be ready to meet Jesus and go to heaven at any moment.
Prayer: Father, may I finish today all that You called me to do in 2012.
Promise: "Happy the man who heeds the prophetic message of this book!" -Rv 22:7
Praise: Warren shared his faith in Jesus with a woman who had been abused. His faith touched her heart and she converted to the Catholic faith.

THE LEFT-OUT CAN REACH OUT - One Bread, One Body, 11/30/2012
Friday, November 30, 2012, St. Andrew
Revelation 10:9-18, Psalm 19:8-11, Matthew 4:18-22
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/113012.cfm
THE LEFT-OUT CAN REACH OUT
Jesus "watched two brothers, Simon now known as Peter, and his brother Andrew." -Matthew 4:18
Andrew was one of the first two disciples to follow Jesus (Jn 1:40). Andrew even led his brother, Simon Peter, to Jesus (Jn 1:41). Andrew, with Peter, James, and John, was called by Jesus to become a fisher of men (Mt 4:19).
However, Andrew's prominence did not continue. Jesus did not include Andrew in His inner circle of apostles. Only Peter, James, and John were included at the raising of Jairus' daughter from the dead (Mk 5:37), the Transfiguration (Mk 9:2), and the agony in the garden of Gethsemani (Mt 26:37). Andrew was conspicuously not invited.
What do you do when you're number four in a threesome, the fourth leg for a tripod, or the fourth "member" of a trio? Most people respond to being left out by jealousy, unforgiveness, and/or self-pity. Andrew responded by persevering in his original commitment. He continued to abandon everything to be a fisher of men. He became the "designated evangelist" among the apostles. When several Greeks asked Philip to take them to Jesus, Philip took them to Andrew to take them to Jesus (Jn 12:21-22).
When you're left out, reach out. Share your love for Jesus, Who has been left out and rejected throughout His life on earth, even to the present day. He was rejected - from His birth in a manger to His death on a cross. When Jesus was and is left out, He reaches out to us in love. Be like Jesus.
Prayer: Father, may I not have pity parties but Jesus-parties.
Promise: "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." -Rm 10:9
Praise: St. Andrew is said to have preached for several days from the cross upon which he died.

THE END IS NEAR!
"Babylon the great city shall be cast down." -Revelation 18:21
The book of Revelation was written near the end of the first century. Its message gave consolation and encouragement to Christians suffering terrible persecution from Roman emperors. In today's first reading, an angel from heaven announces the fall of Rome. God encouraged His first century Christians by telling them there will be an end to injustice, wickedness, and persecution (Rv 18:20). If you are trapped in an oppressive situation, the announcement of the end of your plight is sweet news indeed.
Maybe you are so trapped in sin, addiction, a difficult marriage, spiraling financial woes, raising a wayward child, social injustice, or a dead-end job that you can't see the light at the end of your tunnel. Perhaps you don't even know there is an end to the tunnel. When there's no end in sight, it might be that the end is near. Because the one "who holds out to the end" will be saved (Mt 24:13), Satan certainly wants us to believe that there is no end in sight. If he can tempt us into believing our situation is beyond hope and without end, he knows we can more readily fall into despair and abandon God.
Jesus can change any situation "in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Cor 15:52). He is our Hope. In fact, Jesus is "the End" (Rv 22:13), and "the End" is near, "with [us] always, until the end" (Mt 28:20). Therefore, never give up hope. "Those who hope in [the Lord] shall never be disappointed" (Is 49:23).
Prayer: Father, "I will give thanks to You, O Lord, with all my heart" (Ps 138:1) for inviting me to Your heavenly feast (Rv 19:9).
Promise: "Know that the Lord is God; He made us, His we are; His people, the flock He tends." -Ps 100:3
Praise: Mitch forgave both his wife and the man with whom she had an affair.

SINGING IN THE REIGN - One Bread, One Body, 11/28/2012

SINGING IN THE REIGN
"They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb." -Revelation 15:3
We Christians will be persecuted by both the religious and secular authorities (Lk 21:12). As Jesus was betrayed by Judas, we will be betrayed even by our "parents, brothers, relatives and friends" (Lk 21:16). Some of us "will be put to death" (Lk 12:16). All will hate us because of our love for Jesus (Lk 21:17). Our reaction to all this bad news is not to "hang down our heads and cry." Rather, "when these things begin to happen, stand erect and hold your heads high, for your deliverance is near at hand" (Lk 21:28).
In the last days, the world will be pounded by seven plagues, by wave after wave of destruction (Rv 15:1). We do not react to this with fear, stress, or confusion. Instead, we stand up, hold our heads high, and by faith break out into song (Rv 15:3). Like the three men in the fiery furnace, we create a safe place in the midst of the destroying flames by singing God's praises (Dn 3:51). Like Paul and Silas, we sing up an earthquake, praise our way out of jail, and even convert the jailer and his family (Acts 16:25ff).
When times are tough, God's people sing. When God's people sing in faith, we see deliverance, protection, power, freedom, and conversion. St. Augustine declared: "He who sings prays twice." That's not the half of it. Sing to the Lord!
Prayer: Father, may my songs of faith protect babies in the womb from abortion.
Promise: "By patient endurance you will save your lives." -Lk 21:19
Praise: Louise has been praying the morning and evening prayers in the Liturgy of the Hours for over twenty years.

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER - One Bread, One Body, 11/27/2012

Revelation 14:14-19, Psalm 96:10-13, Luke 21:5-11

INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER
"Use your sickle and cut down the harvest, for now is the time to reap; the earth's harvest is fully ripe." -Revelation 14:15
Because of Steinbeck's novel, many people have heard the phrase, "the grapes of wrath." Biblically, this evokes an eerie image of divine judgment. Picture millions of grapes thrown "into the huge wine press of God's wrath" (Rv 14:19). "So much blood [pours] out of the wine press that for two hundred miles around, it [reaches] as high as a horse's bridle" (Rv 14:20).
However, on Judgment Day, we will see the harvest consisting of not only the grapes of God's wrath but also the wheat of God's mercy. Jesus Himself will harvest "the citizens of the kingdom" (Mt 13:38). "Then the saints will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom" (Mt 13:43).
We all will be harvested. Will we be harvested as wheat or weeds? (Mt 13:24-25) Wheat or grapes? Sheep or goats? (Mt 25:32) Will our future be love or wrath? What will happen to us? "God has not destined us for wrath but for acquiring salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us, that all of us, whether awake or asleep, together might live with Him" (1 Thes 5:9-10).
If Jesus has His way, the Last Judgment will be a day of greatest joy on which we receive God the Father's blessing and inherit the kingdom prepared for us from the creation of the world (Mt 25:34). Let Jesus have His way. If you live and work for His harvest (see Mt 9:38), you will be harvested as wheat.
Prayer: Jesus, harvest me into Your everlasting kingdom.
Promise: "The Lord is King. He has made the world firm, not to be moved; He governs the peoples with equity." -Ps 96:10
Praise: Sandra thanked God when her hearing was miraculously restored during a healing service at a retreat. She rejoiced even more in the improvement of her spiritual hearing after she received the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
