January 6th The "Epiphany"
Jesus, thank you for Your tremendous gift of eternal life that started with Your being
with us.
Lord, You came to this earth to do the Fathers will in everything.
Jesus, please help us always to do Your will as we struggle to really be Christ to
others, and live as light in this darkened world.
Lord, help us to look with Your eyes, and see the real needs of those not only around
us, but truly the needs of all peoples.
Let us pray and be willing, to be just stewards of all the gifts, that You have given
us.
We pray, help us to share with others, in love and in gratitude to You.
Thank You, Jesus, for Your love.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday ON THE LIGHT SIDE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/6/2013
"Rise up in splendor! Your light has come." -Isaiah 60:1
Alleluia! Today is the highlight of the Christmas season. Jesus, the Light of the world (Jn 8:12)
and the bright Morning Star (Rv 22:16), has conquered the darkness. The Lord conquered the
darkness by creating light at the beginning of creation (Gn 1:2-3). Through His Incarnation
and our re-creation, the Lord has also triumphed over the darkness of sin and death.
We can share in the victory of Jesus the Light by doing what the wise men and women of all times
have done - by coming into Jesus the Light, prostrating ourselves before Him, and giving Him our
gifts, that is, our whole lives (Mt 2:11). When we by faith decide to love the Lord with all our
hearts, all our souls, all our strength, and all our minds (Lk 10:27), we walk in the light
(1 Jn 1:7), become "the light of the world" (Mt 5:14), and even become "light in the Lord" and
"children of light" (Eph 5:8). With and in Jesus, we shine "on in darkness, a darkness" that
will not overcome us (Jn 1:5).
Love the Light. Love God, Who is Light (1 Jn 1:5). Love Jesus. Be light. Happy Epiphany! Alleluia!
Prayer: Father, may I "possess the light of life" (Jn 8:12).
Promise: "In Christ Jesus the Gentiles are now co-heirs with the Jews, members of the same body
and sharers of the promise through the preaching of the gospel." -Eph 3:6
Praise: "He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit; seen by the angels; preached
among the Gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up into glory" (1 Tm 3:16).

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
RECEIVE CHRIST'S GIFT
Dear married couples, by means of a special gift of the Holy Spirit, Christ gives you a
share in His spousal love, making you a sign of His faithful and all-embracing love for
the Church. If you can receive this gift, renewing your "yes" each day by faith, with the
strength that comes from the grace of the sacrament, then your family will grow in God's
love according to the model of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
"PRAY OFTEN"
Pray often for the help of the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, that they may teach you to
receive God's love as they did.
"NOT EASY"
Your vocation is not easy to live, especially today, but the vocation to love is a
wonderful thing, it is the only thing that can truly transform the cosmos, the world.

MIRACLE OF MIRACLES
"That we have passed from death to life we know because we love the brothers. The man who does not love is among the living dead." -1 John 3:14
Throughout Advent, the Lord through His word has promised us a miraculous Christmas. The blind would see, the lame walk, the deaf hear, and the dumb speak. Many of us may not have experienced such dramatic miracles this Christmas season.
Nonetheless, there's another miracle that is even more dramatic and more important: the miracle of unconditional love, love for enemies, love for the unlovable. This is the ultimate miracle of the Christian life and of Christmas. When we are willing to lay down our lives in love (1 Jn 3:16) for prejudiced individuals, traitors like Judas, and murderers like Hitler, we truly have received the miracle of Christmas, Calvary, and Christ. This proves we are sons and daughters of the heavenly Father (Mt 5:45) and proves we have had the real Christmas, because no one but the Father's children can forgive and love the unlovable.
Think of your enemy or the person that has hurt you the most. Ask the Lord for His crucified love for that person to flow through you. Open your Christmas present of unconditional love.
Prayer: Jesus, may I respond to hate with love as You do.
Promise: "I solemnly assure you, you shall see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." -Jn 1:51
Praise: In his eight years as Bishop of Philadelphia, St. John increased the attendance at diocesan Catholic Schools twenty-fold.
(Take another look at the topic of "love." Order the tape on "Love" on audio AV 58-1 or video V-58.)

DESTROYER
"It was to destroy the devil's works that the Son of God revealed Himself." -1 John 3:8
Jesus came to this earth "to destroy the devil's works" (1 Jn 3:8). Satan's works cannot stand next to those of God. Anything built on a foundation based on evil must first be overturned and destroyed. Therefore, Jesus' initial work must be that of a demolition crew. First, He needs to clear the building site of the existing structure if it is not founded on Him (see 1 Cor 3:10-11). Only then will He lay a new foundation and build His kingdom.
Jesus is zealous for His house (Jn 2:17). He is determined to build things the right way, and so He'll have to rip out and cut down an unstable foundation (see Lk 13:9). He clears the ground (Mt 3:10) completely and thoroughly. Jesus intends to build His kingdom, and nothing will stand that opposes His work.
If anything in your life is opposed to God's kingdom, you don't have to wait. You can do some of the clearing yourself to prepare the way of the Lord. Ask Jesus to show you what needs to "go" in your life. Then "clear Him a straight path" (Lk 3:4) so that Jesus can spend His time doing the building.
Prayer: Father, do in me whatever You must in order to do through me whatever You will.
Promise: "No one begotten of God acts sinfully because he remains of God's stock; he cannot sin because he is begotten of God." -1 Jn 3:9
Praise: St. Elizabeth was a mother of five, was only a Catholic for sixteen years, and died at the young age of forty-six. However, she found time to lay the foundation for the American parochial school system.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME
"It is He Who is to baptize with the Holy Spirit." -John 1:33
Many people (who don't know any better) think Christmas is over. In fact, Christmas continues for nine more days and culminates in the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit rested upon Him (Jn 1:32). Then Jesus baptized us in that same Holy Spirit (Jn 1:33). The Church teaches us in her liturgy that the ultimate Christmas gift is the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Through our Baptisms and Confirmations, we already have the Spirit living within us, but through sin and selfishness the Spirit may be quenched (1 Thes 5:19). The gift of the Christmas Spirit is sent "to stir into flame the gift bestowed when" hands were laid on us (2 Tm 1:6).
The Christmas you've had so far is only a beginning, a stepping stone to full life in the Spirit. During these next ten days, repent (Acts 2:38), go to Confession, humble yourself (see Lk 1:38), and cry out: "Come, Holy Spirit!" (see Lk 11:13) You will have the best Christmas ever by receiving the Christmas Spirit, the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, God Himself.
Prayer: Father, may I want the Spirit as much as I want to breathe.
Promise: "See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God! Yet that is what we are." -1 Jn 3:1
Praise: "At Jesus' name every knee must bend in the heavens, on the earth, and under the earth, and every tongue proclaim to the glory of God the Father; JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!" (Phil 2:10-11)
(Stir up the Holy Spirit in your life this Christmas. Order our tape on "Staying Filled With the Holy Spirit" on audio AV 57-1 or video V-57.)

FAITH-SHARING
"I am 'a voice in the desert, crying out: Make straight the way of the Lord!' " -John 1:23
As we begin a new year, the Lord reminds us that people and even demons are lying in an attempt to deceive us (1 Jn 2:22, 26). If we fall for their deception, we will lose everything, that is, eternal life (see 1 Jn 2:25). This deception is focused on getting us to deny that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the world. Because Jesus is the only Way to the Father (Jn 14:6) and the only One Who baptizes in the Spirit (Jn 1:33; Mk 1:8), we must believe in Jesus as Lord, Savior, and God. Otherwise, we don't rightly know God the Father (see 1 Jn 2:23) and the Spirit and thereby do not have eternal life (see Jn 17:3).
This means that Jews, Muslims, and people of other religions which do not accept Jesus as the Christ cannot know God the Father very well. These peoples walk in the darkness of a Christ-less life. This is not necessarily their fault. Pope Paul VI has taught: "It would be useful if every Christian and every evangelizer were to pray about the following thought: men can gain salvation also in other ways, by God's mercy, even though we do not preach the Gospel to them; but as for us, can we gain salvation if...we fail to preach it?" (On Evangelization, 80) Christians, especially Catholic Christians, have an awesome responsibility to share their faith in Jesus. If we fail to try and share our faith, billions of people are condemned to the misery of a Christ-less existence and have much less opportunity to receive salvation in Christ. "When much has been given a man, much will be required of him. More will be asked of a man to whom more has been entrusted" (Lk 12:48).
This year, share your faith in Jesus as never before. Ask the Lord to help you. He will send the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit of love and evangelization!
Promise: "His anointing teaches you about all things and is true - free from any lie." -1 Jn 2:27
Praise: St. Basil and two of his brothers served Jesus as bishops.

"HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD" - One Bread, One Body, 1/1/2013
Make a New Year's Resolution to share OBOB with a friend.
"Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature" (Mk 16:15).
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Tuesday, January 1, 2013, Mary, Mother of God
Numbers 6:22-27, Galatians 4:4-7, Psalm 67:2-3, 5-6, 8, Luke 2:16-21

"HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD"
"They went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger; once they saw, they understood what had been told them concerning this Child." -Luke 2:16-17
For a moment, put aside the centuries of religious interpretation of the Nativity, and picture the scenario through the lens of 21st century Western culture. A modern couple denied civil conditions for birth might well be furious over this injustice. They would likely be planning a lawsuit against the "hospital" that sent them away (see Lk 2:7). The visitors at the manger might well be eager lawyers rather than humble shepherds!
Scripture tells us that Mary reflected in her heart about the injustices she, Joseph, and her Child were required to endure (Lk 2:19). Such reflection can sometimes lead people to self-pity, anger toward God, or bitterness. However, Mary embraced her situation and humbly "treasured" these events (Lk 2:19).
Mary's holiness led her to strive to see all things from God's perspective instead of a human one. Mary thereby proved herself a member of God's family, for God the Father also embraced His Son's lowly birth into the human condition (Gal 4:4).
Many crosses await us in 2013. Right now, make a New Year's resolution to "treasure" all the crosses that come into your life and see how the Lord will use them to transform your world.
Prayer: Father, look kindly on us and grant us peace (Nm 6:26).
Promise: "You are no longer a slave but a son!" -Gal 4:7
Praise: Alleluia! The Word became flesh in the womb of Mary! (Jn 1:14) Alleluia!
