"Elijah is indeed coming, and he will restore everything." -Matthew 17:11
Jesus said that Elijah would restore everything. What a statement! Everything? How could someone restore everything? Jesus said that the restoration of everything was begun by John the Baptizer (Mt 17:13), who came "in the spirit and power of Elijah" (Lk 1:17). The Power for this universal restoration is the Holy Spirit. Consequently, John was "filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother's womb" (Lk 1:15). John began the restoration of everything by turning "the hearts of fathers to their children" (Lk 1:17).
This universal restoration is still in process. When we complete it, the world will end and Jesus will come back. Until then, "Jesus must remain in heaven until the time of universal restoration which God spoke of long ago through His holy prophets" (Acts 3:21). So Jesus is waiting for us to finish the job. We may feel overwhelmed at this responsibility, since universal restoration seems no less monumental now than at Jesus' time, despite all the Lord has been doing in the meantime. However, all we have to do is what Elijah and John did - be filled with the Spirit, obey the Lord, and focus on turning the hearts of fathers to their children. If we do this much, we will do our part to bring about universal restoration and hasten Jesus' final coming (2 Pt 3:12). YoU aRe another Elijah and John. Work and live accordingly.
Prayer: Father, may this Advent and my life's work follow in the tradition of Elijah and John.
Promise: "You are destined, it is written, in time to come to put an end to wrath before the day of the Lord." -Sir 48:10
Praise: St. Lucy vowed herself to virginity at an early age and remained faithful to Christ even to the point of giving up her life as a martyr.

CHRIST WITHIN
"Thereupon Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country to a town of Judah, where she entered Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth." -Luke 1:39-40
When we think of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we think of her miraculous image on the tilma, the miracle of the roses, the great basilica, and especially the millions of conversions. The cause of all these wondrous works is symbolized by the black sash at the center of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This sash is a sign that Mary was pregnant with Jesus. Jesus, Who was in Mary, has done and continues to do countless miracles through Our Lady of Guadalupe. Jesus through Mary continues to convert millions to new life in Him.
On this great feast day, let us accept God's grace to be like Our Lady of Guadalupe. Let us be filled with Jesus. Let us be like Mary and visit all the Elizabeths and Johns in our lives (Lk 1:39ff). Christ in us is our Hope of glory (Col 1:27). "There is One greater in you than there is in the world" (1 Jn 4:4). As we are conscious of Jesus living within us (see 2 Cor 13:5), Jesus will do miracles through us and give salvation to countless thousands.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us to be like you. May we let Jesus within us transform the world around us. We are servants of the Lord; let it be done to us according to His word (Lk 1:38).
Prayer: Jesus, during Advent prepare us to be full of Life this Christmas, for You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn 14:6).
Promise: "See, I am coming to dwell among You, says the Lord." -Zec 2:14
Praise: Our Lady of Guadalupe left her image on the cloak of a Mexican Indian, and it is still miraculously intact today.

GOOD VIOLENCE - One Bread, One Body, 12/11/2014

GOOD VIOLENCE
"From John the Baptizer's time until now the kingdom of God has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force." -Matthew 11:12
How do the violent take God's kingdom by force? During Jesus' time on earth, a group called the Zealots believed they would take God's kingdom by force by waging guerilla warfare against the Romans. Jesus rejected this approach, for His kingdom is not of this world (Jn 18:36).
Throughout the history of the Church, some holy people interpreted and applied Matthew 11:12 by doing violence to themselves through harsh physical penances. While there is some value to this, the Lord probably means something other than this.
Pope Paul VI applied Matthew 11:12 to doing violence to our wills, pride, and pleasure-seeking by saying "no" to ourselves, repenting, and humbling ourselves. This self-denial is heart-wrenching. We do violence against the strongholds, sophistries, and proud pretensions in our lives (2 Cor 10:4-5). We knock ourselves off our pedestals. We repent of idolatry and violently destroy the false gods we have enthroned. However, as Fr. Al Lauer, founder and long-time author of One Bread, One Body, said: "The more we say 'No' to ourselves, the more we say 'Yes' to the Holy Spirit." Thus, in saying "No" to ourselves and in doing violence to our own will, we thereby decrease while Jesus increases (Jn 3:30).
Do violence to your will and live in God's kingdom.
Prayer: Father, in this Advent give me godly violence.
Promise: "I am the Lord, your God, Who grasp your right hand; it is I Who say to you, 'Fear not, I will help you.' " -Is 41:13
Praise: Pope St. Damasus I spent much time draining and cleaning the Roman catacombs, where the first Roman Christians worshipped Jesus. He wanted the Church to be strengthened by the memories of the martyrs of the past.

Y'ALL COME
"To whom can you liken Me as an equal? says the Holy One." -Isaiah 40:25
No one equals God in anything. Consider God's strength; He is unequaled in strength. Almighty God is so strong that He made and sustains the millions of stars which span light-years in space (Is 40:26).
Almighty God is willing to share His unlimited strength with us. "He gives strength to the fainting; for the weak He makes vigor abound" (Is 40:29). When God strengthens old or weak people, they can outrun, outwork, and outlast young folks. Those who let God renew their strength "will soar as with eagles' wings; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint" (Is 40:31).
It gets better. God will make you so supernaturally strong that you will be able to say with St. Paul: "In Him Who is the Source of my strength I have strength for everything" (Phil 4:13). God's love in you will be stronger than death (see Sg 8:6). Death, sickness, pain, and Satan will wear out before you will. You will have the strength to enter into eternal life and rest (see Mt 11:29).
To receive this supernatural strength, all people must come to Jesus. "All you who are weary and find life burdensome" (Mt 11:28), come to Jesus.
Prayer: Father, beginning this Advent may I have Your strength for everything.
Promise: "My yoke is easy and My burden light." -Mt 11:30
Praise: For decades, Chris has volunteered at a retreat center by continually mowing grass, landscaping, and tending the grounds. With strong faith, he prays daily in Eucharistic adoration for all those who attend the retreats.

COMFORT ZONE
"Comfort, give comfort to My people, says your God." -Isaiah 40:1
The Lord commanded His heavenly court to give comfort to His people on earth. This "comfort" does not mean feeling good and indulging in "creature comforts," but being freed from slavery to a pleasure-seeking lifestyle (see Is 40:2). God's comfort is not an exterior gratification of the senses but an interior freedom from sin and guilt (Is 40:2).
An angel obeyed God's command to comfort His people by crying out: "Earthquake!" (That is probably what is meant by the reference to filling in the valleys and laying low the mountains in Isaiah 40:4.) A voice screaming "earthquake" does not seem comforting, but it shows that God's idea of comfort is not based on circumstances.
Next, another voice, probably that of an angel, commanded Isaiah to cry out. Isaiah was understandably at a loss for what to say. He was told to cry out that "all mankind is grass" (Is 40:6). What a comforting thought! Obviously, God's comfort is not based on human power.
Finally, Jerusalem is told to climb a high mountain and cry out at the top of her voice: "Here is your God!" (Is 40:9) Comfort isn't a feeling, pleasure, circumstance, or human accomplishment. No matter what the circumstances, true comfort is being in the Lord's presence and in a committed relationship with Him.
Prayer: Father, give me Your kind of Christmas comfort.
Promise: "It is no part of your heavenly Father's plan that a single one of these little ones shall ever come to grief." -Mt 18:14
Praise: St. Juan Diego's humble obedience conquered the New World more than all the conquistadors combined.

GOD'S WORTHY VESSEL - One Bread, One Body, 12/8/2014
Monday, December 8, 2014, Immaculate Conception
Genesis 3:9-15, 20, Ephesians 1:3-6, 11-12, Psalm 98:1-4, Luke 1:26-38

GOD'S WORTHY VESSEL
"...to be holy and blameless in His sight..." -Ephesians 1:4
Picture a Thanksgiving supper. There are many leftovers and you are ready to store them in the refrigerator. Of course, you will put the leftovers in clean containers, so the food will not spoil. Who could imagine putting the leftovers in unwashed containers that the kids had used to make mudpies? The thought is repulsive; the image itself is unthinkable.
We couldn't imagine a scene at Eucharistic Adoration where the monstrance was filthy. No, the priest or sacristan would first clean and polish the monstrance before placing the Holy Eucharist into it, so that the consecrated Bread of Life would be placed into a clean and suitable container befitting the holiness of our Lord.
How much more would Mary, as the Mother of God, need to be absolutely pure, spotless, and immaculate to be able to carry Jesus, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, God Himself, in her human womb? The Church teaches that "the most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin" (Catechism, 491).
Mary received a special grace for her unique role in the plan of salvation, yet she also foreshadows God's plan for each of us: to make us all "holy and immaculate, without stain or wrinkle" (Eph 5:27). With Mary, say "Yes" to a life of holy love for Jesus.
Prayer: Father, "cleanse me of sin" (Ps 51:9) that I may be made holy as You are holy (1 Pt 1:16).
Promise: "We were predestined to praise His glory." -Eph 1:12
Praise: Mary Immaculate is a sure sign of the sovereignty of her Son Jesus as Lord of life and Lord of time.

PM eNewsletter Second Sunday of Advent
December 7th Second Sunday of Advent
Merciful Jesus, Your plan of our redemption is about to start with
the Immaculate Conception of Mary our Mother.
This week, we celebrate this feast and so start to prepare for Your
coming among us.
Jesus, let us be in awe of how You prepared the perfect "ark of the
new covenant" through Mary.
Mary was sinless from conception and always stayed sinless.
We, who are sinners, fall far short of truly being really worthy of Your love.
Yet, You loved us so much that You became one of us to carry all of
our sins to the cross.
Jesus, help us to truly be repentent for our sins, help us to get to
confession and amend our ways.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday CHRISTMAS COMFORT
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/7/2014
"Comfort, give comfort to My people, says your God. Speak tenderly."
-Isaiah 40:1-2
The Lord promises to comfort and speak tenderly to us. In the second
reading, the Church proclaims in the name of the Lord that "the heavens
will vanish with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire"
(2 Pt 3:10). How comforting! In the Gospel reading, we meet St. John the
Baptizer, one of the least comforting characters in the Bible and in
history (see Mk 1:2ff). The Lord's ways are not our ways, and His idea
of comfort is not our idea of comfort (see Is 55:8).
The Lord does not want to give us the superficial comfort of temporary
relief or a bit of encouragement. Rather, the Lord promises to baptize
us in the Holy Spirit (Mk 1:8), the Paraclete, the Comforter (see e.g.
Jn 14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7). This divine Comforter will free us from
generations of slavery, sin, guilt, and punishment (Is 40:2). Comfort
will begin with the Holy Spirit convicting the world and us of sin,
justice, and condemnation (Jn 16:8). Then we must let the Spirit lead
us from conviction to repentance, confession, and forgiveness. After
this, we will personally experience that "where the Spirit of the Lord
is, there is freedom" (2 Cor 3:17). In the comfort of the Spirit, we
will truly enter into the freedom of the Lord. We will displace the
culture of death with a civilization of love and life. Come, Holy
Spirit of Christmas and comfort!
Prayer: Father, comfort me Your way.
Promise: "Here is your God! Here comes with power the Lord God, Who
rules by His strong arm." -Is 40:9-10
Praise: Jesus came forth from the tomb; "Truth shall spring out of the
earth" (Ps 85:12). Praise the risen Jesus, "the Way, and the Truth, and the Life" (Jn 14:6).

compassion. May the grace of this Season bear the fruit of our own
conversion. May my family prepare for advent so as to prepare for Your
glorious return in Your second coming by: - Departing from the denial
of God and from the obstinate rebellion against his Law, and disposing
ourselves to receive You; - Shunning sin and impurity, and disposing
ourselves to receive the grace of holiness; - Leaving behind hatred,
egoism and injustice, and disposing ourselves to God's love and peace;
Setting aside incredulity and pride, and disposing ourselves in faith

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
THE ELDERLY
"A TIME OF GRACE"
In a special way, old age is a time of grace, in which the Lord renews
His call to us; He calls us to safeguard and transmit the faith, He calls
us to pray, especially to intercede; He calls us to be close to those in
need .... The elderly, grandparents have the ability to understand the
most difficult of situations: a great ability! And when they pray for
these situations, their prayer is strong; it is powerful!
"A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY"
Grandparents, who have received the blessing to see their children's
children (cf. Ps 128:6), are entrusted with a great responsibility: to
transmit their life experience, their family history, the history of a
community, of a people; to share wisdom with simplicity, and the faith
itself - the most precious heritage!
HAPPINESS IS ...
Happy is the family who have grandparents close by! A grandfather is a
father twice over and a grandmother is a mother twice over.
