October 14th 28th Sunday in ordinary time.
This week, Lord, You showed us Your most precious Sacred Heart
by appearing to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.
You told us to adore You by meditating on Your heart of love,
and by having Your heart displayed prominently in our homes.
Please Lord, help all people to realize what a blessing it is
to be able to look at Your Sacred Heart, and see the fire of
love, the crown of thorns, and the blood of forgiveness,
coming from Your heart.
Let us feel the peace of Your love, and help us to get the
continued graces that we need to face all the challenges
of life.
Amen and Amen.
Thanks to You, Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=10/14/2012
I "deemed riches nothing in comparison with [Wisdom]." -Wisdom 7:8
"You cannot give yourself to God and money" (Mt 6:24). Although few admit it,
money is God's greatest competition, that thing which we are most tempted to
put ahead of God. "The love of money is the root of all evil" (1 Tm 6:10).
Money is the means to pleasure and a life of self-satisfaction. Money
facilitates worship of self. Consequently, many young rich men and women
continue to walk sadly away from Jesus (Mk 10:22).
Like Judas, many commonly sell Jesus for a few pieces of silver (Mt 26:15) or
even for the petty pleasures that money can buy. For example, Esau sold out
for just a bowl of red soup (Gn 25:30-34).
"How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" (Mk 10:23) It all
comes down to God or money, lifestyle, and self. We must consider "riches
nothing in comparison" with God (Wis 7:8) and consider God's word "more
precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces" (Ps 119:72). We must "put
aside everything to follow" Jesus (Mk 10:28).
Prayer: Prayer: Jesus, I choose You over riches and pleasure.
Promise: "God's word is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword.
It penetrates and divides soul and spirit." -Heb 4:12
Praise: Praise Jesus, the Resurrection and the Life! (Jn 11:25) Praise Him
always and forever. Alleluia!

Pope Benedict XVI, Shepherd of Truth

Notable quotations from Pope Benedict XVI and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
THE POWER OF PRAYER
"SCALE THE MOUNTAIN"
God draws us towards Him, offering us enlightenment and consolation, and enabling us to
scale the mountain of holiness so that we may be ever closer to Him.
POWER IN WEAKNESS
The power of God, Who does not abandon us or leave us on our own but becomes our support
and strength, is revealed at the very moment when we experience our own weakness.
GOD WORKS THROUGH WEAKNESS
...To the extent that our union with the Lord increases and that our prayers become
intense, we also .. understand that it is not the power of our own means, our virtues,
our skills that brings about the Kingdom of God but that it is God Who works miracles
precisely through our weakness, our inadequacy for the task.

THE "LIFE OF FAITH" (Gal 2:20) - One Bread, One Body, 10/13/2012
Saturday, October 13, 2012
Galatians 3:22-29, Psalm 105:2-7, Luke 11:27-28
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/101312.cfm
THE "LIFE OF FAITH" (Gal 2:20)
The promise will "be fulfilled in those who believe, in consequence of faith in Jesus Christ." -Galatians 3:22
"Before faith came we were under the constraint of the law, locked in" (Gal 3:23). In addition to being set free in Jesus, we received justification through faith (Gal 3:24). Third, we became sons and daughters of God because of our faith in Christ Jesus (Gal 3:26). By living our Baptisms through faith, we become clothed with Jesus (Gal 3:27). We look and act like Jesus. We become holy in every aspect of our conduct (1 Pt 1:15). Because we look like Jesus, we look like others who look like Jesus. We "are one in Christ" (Gal 3:28). Furthermore, by faith we "inherit all that was promised" (Gal 3:29; see also Heb 11:33). The life of faith (Gal 2:20) is a life of freedom, justification, holiness, and unity. By grace through faith (Eph 2:8), we live as children of God and heirs of God's kingdom.
Therefore, pray:
* "Increase our faith" (Lk 17:5).
* "I do believe! Help my lack of faith!" (Mk 9:24, our transl.)
* "Fear is useless. Only believe" (Mk 5:36, our transl.).
Therefore, meditate day and night on God's word (Ps 1:2), for faith comes through hearing and hearing by God's word (Rm 10:17, our transl.).
"When the Son of Man comes, will He find any faith on the earth?" (Lk 18:8)
Prayer: Father, I completely submit my mind and will to You (Catechism, 143). May I have and live faith.
Promise: "Blest are they who hear the word of God and keep it." -Lk 11:28
Praise: Wendell and Nancy transported their children to sports practices for years. They finally decided in prayer to pull the plug on all sports. Now they all attend daily Mass, eat family meals, pray a daily Rosary, and go on family campouts. Their children are happier now than ever before.

"THE RIGHT HAND OF THE POWER" (Mt 26:64) - One Bread, One Body, 10/12/2012
Friday, October 12, 2012
Galatians 3:7-14, Psalm 111:1-6, Luke 11:15-26

"THE RIGHT HAND OF THE POWER" (Mt 26:64)
"If it is by the finger of God that I cast out devils, then the reign of God is upon you." -Luke 11:20
Jesus is stronger than the strong man (Lk 11:22). He is stronger than the devil. The One in us is greater than the one in the world (1 Jn 4:4).
Do we realize how much stronger and greater Jesus is? Jesus is so much stronger and greater that Satan is not even a close second to the Lord. Satan is not even remotely close to the all-powerful Lord, although he lies about being like God. For this reason, the angel sent by God to defeat Satan forever is named "Michael," meaning "Who is like God?" (see Rv 12:7)
Because we as Christians draw our "strength from the Lord and His mighty power" (Eph 6:10), it is important to know that the Lord is all-powerful and that the devil can't compare with Him. In Baptism, we have been "clothed with power from on high" (Lk 24:49). The devil is no match for us in Christ. When we are under the authority of Christ, we are in authority over Satan (see Mt 10:1). We can drive out Satan (Mk 16:17), disarm and despoil him (Lk 11:22), bring down his strongholds and sophistries (2 Cor 10:4), and make a public show of him (Col 2:15). In Christ, we don't have to worry about Satan. He has to worry about us.
Know and use your power in Christ.
Prayer: Father, I will use fully my authority and power in Jesus.
Promise: "This has happened so that through Christ Jesus the blessing bestowed on Abraham might descend on the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, thereby making it possible for us to receive the promised Spirit through faith." -Gal 3:14
Praise: Fr. Ron promotes perpetual Eucharistic adoration in Catholic churches. He has found that no person has ever been harmed traveling to or from adoration in these parishes, even in the most dangerous neighborhoods, or in the midnight hours.
(For a related teaching, order our tape Power in the Spirit "on audio AV 64-1 or video V-64.)

STIFLING THE SPIRIT (1 Thes 5:19)
"After beginning in the Spirit, are you now to end in the flesh?" -Galatians 3:3
Approximately one billion people on the earth have received the Holy Spirit. This may come as a surprise because you'd think the world would be in better shape with all these "Spirit-filled" people. Nonetheless, just because a billion have received the Holy Spirit does not mean they are living in the Spirit.
Many of the billion have stifled the Spirit by yielding to the flesh (Gal 5:17). Like Esau, too many of us have sold our birthright - life in the Spirit - for petty, selfish pleasures (Gn 25:33-34). We've fallen into the temptation of depending on worldly things instead of on Jesus. We have thereby denied Him as our only Lord and Savior (Jude 4). We have gone out of our minds (Gal 3:1) and no longer recognize Jesus as the only One Who died on the cross for us and rose from the dead.
Jesus is Life (Jn 14:6; Phil 1:21). Everything is rated as loss in His light (Phil 3:8). When we recommit our lives to Jesus, He will stir up the Spirit in our lives (2 Tm 1:6).
Prayer: "To the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, be praise and honor, glory and might, forever and ever!" (Rv 5:13)
Promise: "If you, with all your sins, know how to give your children good things, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him." -Lk 11:13
Praise: Marcia is in her eighties, and still prays instantly with whoever asks her for prayer. Numerous times, God has answered her prayers by the end of the same day.
(To grow in the Holy Spirit, read the Bible every day. We have several tape series to help you. " Overview of the Bible" is six audio tapes starting with AV 10A-1 or three video tapes starting with V-10A. "15-minute Bible Teaching - New Testament" is forty audio tapes starting with #700. "An Introduction to each Book of the Bible" is 32 audio tapes starting with AV 21-1 or 17 video tapes starting with V-21.)

"THE CHURCH OF THE POOR"
"Be mindful of the poor." -Galatians 2:10
When Paul laid out his ministry for the scrutiny of the leaders of the Jerusalem church, the only stipulation they made was that he "should be mindful of the poor" (Gal 2:10). This was the one thing that Paul "was making every effort to do" (Gal 2:10). We also should be making every effort to be mindful of the poor when we buy anything, talk, pray, work, plan church activities, parent our children, watch TV, drive our cars, have parties, go to school, etc.
In our financially segregated culture, it is easy to forget about the poor who live in areas we do not have to travel through. Not many people who can afford comfortable housing live in areas where beggars like Lazarus are readily visible (see Lk 16:20ff). God our Father invites us to "bring in the poor" to His heavenly feast (Lk 14:21). However, many are tempted to be more mindful of their possessions and comfort than of sharing God's kingdom with the poor (Lk 14:18-21). To not be mindful of the poor is to forget about Jesus Himself (Mt 25:41-45).
Pope John Paul II called every person and group in the Catholic Church "to carry out a sincere review of their lives regarding their solidarity with the poor" (Mission of the Redeemer, 60). "We need to turn to a more austere way of life" (Mission of the Redeemer, 59). "The Church all over the world wishes to be the Church of the poor...she wishes to draw out all the truth contained in the Beatitudes of Christ, and especially in the first one: 'Blessed are the poor in spirit' " (Mission of the Redeemer, 60).
Prayer: Father, I will not only help the poor but be willing to be poor.
Promise: "Forgive us our sins for we too forgive all who do us wrong; and subject us not to the trial." -Lk 11:4
Praise: Irene, a single mother, has faced her many financial and parental issues with an unwavering trust in the providence and mercy of God.

QUIET WORK
"She had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord's feet and listened to His words." -Luke 10:39
Jesus lived in the obscurity and silence of Nazareth for almost thirty years before His three years of public ministry. Saul, after one of the greatest conversions in history, did not plunge into ministry. He described the three years after his conversion: "Immediately, without seeking human advisers or even going to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before me, I went off to Arabia; later I returned to Damascus" (Gal 1:16-17). We don't know what Saul did in Arabia and Damascus, but it is probable that he sat "at the Lord's feet and listened to His words" (Lk 10:39). Before significant ministry for the Lord, we need years of listening in places like Nazareth, Arabia, or Damascus, culminating in our own forty days in the silence of the desert (see Mt 4:1-2).
In today's Gospel reading, the Lord may not have been telling Martha to stop working altogether but to pray and listen first. Then she would be able to really work in the power of the Spirit. Because we need to hear from the Lord before we work for Him, we must be quick to hear and slow to speak and act (see Jas 1:19).
This may explain why the devil keeps us so busy and makes us so noisy. He knows that if we don't hear God, we won't believe in Him (Rm 10:17). Then we will never do the work of God, which is to "have faith in the One Whom He sent" (Jn 6:29). Be quiet, hear, and work.
Prayer: Father, quiet my soul (Ps 131:2) and open my ears (Is 50:4).
Promise: "Mary has chosen the better portion and she shall not be deprived of it." -Luke 10:42
Praise: St. Denis and two companions were beheaded for their faith during a persecution in Paris. Their bodies were thrown into the Seine River and later drawn out of the water by fellow Christians. Praise You, Lord, for immersing and burying our old nature in the waters of Baptism, and raising us to new life in Jesus!
