GO OUT INTO THE DEEP

"Do you want to be healed?" -John 5:6

Jesus didn't ask the sick man: "Do you want to be sick?" The sick man, and most people, would answer with a resounding "No." Jesus asked him, and asks us, "Do you want to be healed?" (Jn 5:6) The sick man didn't answer "Yes." Perhaps he wanted to be rid of his sickness, but didn't want to change the lifestyle of limitations and sin (Jn 5:14) that he'd built around his sickness. He had a soul sickness as well as a physical sickness.

It's not in Jesus' nature to do a half-healing. He won't limit Himself to only heal what's causing you the most pain. In addition to healing your knee, He'll also insist on healing your relationship with your father. You go into Jesus' emergency room to be healed of high blood pressure, and He first talks about healing you of unforgiveness toward someone who hurt you "thirty-eight years" ago (Jn 5:5). You want to stick your toe into healing water (Jn 5:2ff), and Jesus wants to sweep you away in His healing river of life (Ez 47:5, 12), to baptize, to immerse you.

Jesus stands at your door (see Rv 3:20) and asks you: "Do you want to be healed? Do you want overflowing, abundant life? (Jn 10:10) Whatever is lifeless in you, I will make fresh and new (Ez 47:9). In My healing, I will heal you and free you of spending your life hidden beneath the shroud of sickness, depression, anxiety, and fear of death (Heb 2:15). I will heal you for evangelization, and give you the power to witness to Me and pierce hearts by speaking My prophetic word. I will make you a light for the world (Mt 5:14). Answer, My child! Do you want to be healed?"

Prayer: Jesus, I choose to live my Baptism to the fullest. Immerse me anew in the living water of the Holy Spirit (Jn 7:37-39).

Promise: "There is a stream whose runlets gladden the city of God." -Ps 46:5

Praise: Lisa abandoned herself to the will of God and experienced a new awakening in the Holy Spirit.

PM eNewsletter 4th Sunday of Lent

March 11th 4th Sunday of Lent

Jesus, in this world of false hopes and promises, we have to really look at You in Your Eucharistic
Body and Blood, and Your word, as the pathway to truth.

The people will celebrate a famous saint this Saturday. and will eat and drink, and think that this
will give them joy.

But, oh Jesus, there is but one real joy, and that is to know, love and serve You, with all of our
hearts, souls and mind.

Jesus, let us realize that St. Patrick came to root out false religion and free the people of
Ireland, to truly give their lives to You, the living and true God.

Let us celebrate Your victory over the world, and dedicate ourselves again to You this Lent as the
way, the truth and the light.

Let us see You, in the breaking of the bread, and hear You, in the silence of our hearts.

Thank you, Jesus, for loving us so much.

Amen and Amen.

Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday HAVE YOU, ARE YOU, AND WILL YOU BE SAVED?
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=3/11/2018

"God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved
through Him." -John 3:17

We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8). Jesus saved us especially by the grace of His death
and resurrection. We are being saved by this good news "at this very moment" if we "hold fast to
it" (1 Cor 15:2). Yet salvation is not only a past and present reality, it is future. "For if you
confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the
dead, you will be saved" (Rm 10:9). The one who believes in the gospel "and accepts baptism will
be saved" (Mk 16:16). Thus, if we have been baptized into Jesus and into His resurrection, we have
been saved (see Rm 6:3ff). We are being saved at this moment, if we are being faithful to our
baptismal promises. We will be saved from sin, death, hell, and Satan and saved for final victory,
perfect love, heavenly peace, and eternal life, if we continue to live our Baptisms by resisting
temptations, repenting from our sins, and obeying the Lord in all things.

In three weeks, we will celebrate the first day of the Easter season. At every Mass in every
Catholic church in the world, we will be invited to renew our baptismal promises. At that time,
make the deepest act of faith you have ever made. Give your life totally to Jesus. Be saved!

Prayer: Father, I accept salvation on Your terms.

Promise: "God is rich in mercy; because of His great love for us He brought us to life with Christ
when we were dead in sin." -Eph 2:4

Praise: Praise the crucified and risen Jesus, Healer of the blind and "the Light of the world!"
(Jn 9:5)

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2018-02.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

BE ON FIRE FOR GOD

END OF TIME

These words appear in Christ's teaching about the end of time. They were spoken ... on the Mount of
Olives, where the Lord's passion would begin. In reply to a question of the disciples, Jesus foretells
a great tribulation and describes a situation in which the community of believers might well find
itself: amid great trials, false prophets would lead people astray and the love that is the core of
the Gospel would grow cold in the hearts of many.

"SOOTHING REMEDY"

Perhaps we see, deep within ourselves and all about us, the signs I have ... described. But the Church,
our Mother and Teacher, along with the often bitter medicine of the truth, offers us in the Lenten
season the soothing remedy of prayer, almsgiving and fasting.

SPIRITUAL BENEFITS

By devoting more time to prayer, we enable our hearts to root out our secret lies and forms of
self-deception, and ... to find the consolation God offers ... Almsgiving sets us free from greed and
helps us to regard our neighbor as a brother or sister ... Fasting weakens our tendency to violence; it
disarms us and becomes an important opportunity for growth... Fasting wakes us up. It makes us more
attentive to God and to our neighbor. It revives our desire to obey God, who alone is capable of
satisfying our hunger.

UP-FRONT HUMILITY - One Bread, One Body, 3/10/2018

Saturday, March 10, 2018

Hosea 6:1-6, Psalm 51:3-4, 18-21, Luke 18:9-14
Link to Readings --> http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/031018.cfm

UP-FRONT HUMILITY

"The other man, however, kept his distance, not even daring to raise his eyes to heaven." -Luke 18:13

The humble tax collector in today's Gospel passage did not presume he was worthy to approach God. He saw his position in relation to God correctly and realized his only option was to throw himself upon the mercy of God. He hoped in God; otherwise he would not have entered the Temple to pray, but knowing his unworthiness he remained at a distance. Jesus was pleased with this man's humility, and proclaimed him "justified" in God's sight (Lk 18:14).

This parable is very familiar to Catholics. Many Catholics imitate the tax collector by sitting in the back of the church. Many don't venture out of this "in the background" position, to the point that instead of staying back out of reverence, they rather "hold back" due to a lack of humble faith (see Heb 10:38-39). So ingrained is this habit that it's as if Catholics use it as an excuse not to serve God. Could this be a practice that originated in humility but gradually became an exercise of pride?

Humility does not mean invisibility (see Mt 5:16). It means humbly acknowledging that the gifts of the Holy Spirit working in us are far greater than our human limitations. St. Teresa of Calcutta summed it up well: "Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your weakness."

Prayer: Spirit of the Living God, melt me and dissolve my pride, mold me as You see fit, fill me with Your grace, and use me always to build Your kingdom.

Promise: "For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled while he who humbles himself shall be exalted." -Lk 18:14

Praise: Faithfully and quietly, Georgia prays weekly before the abortion clinic.

"Return to the Lord; say to Him, 'Forgive all iniquity' " (Hos 14:3).

Return to the Lord, for He will heal your defection and love you freely (Hos 14:5).

Return to the Lord; because of Him you "bear fruit" (Hos 14:9).

Return to the Lord, for He is merciful and will not remain angry with you (Jer 3:12).

"Return, rebellious children" (Jer 3:14), and He will appoint over you shepherds after His own heart who will shepherd you "wisely and prudently" (Jer 3:15).

"Return, rebellious children," and He "will cure you of your rebelling" (Jer 3:22).

"Return to Me, says the Lord of hosts" (Zec 1:3).

"Coming to [our] senses at last" (Lk 15:17), let each of us say: "I will break away and return to my Father" (Lk 15:18).

Prayer: Father, make my weekly or monthly Confessions turning points of my life.

Promise: "Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! Therefore you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength." -Mk 12:29-30

Praise: After the death of her nobleman husband, St. Frances took the "lowest place" (Lk 14:10) by entering the convent as one of the humblest of sisters. God soon raised her up to the role of a superior.

DEMONS ROUTED - One Bread, One Body, 3/8/2018

Thursday, March 8, 2018, St. John of God

Jeremiah 7:23-28, Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9, Luke 11:14-23

DEMONS ROUTED

"But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out devils, then the reign of God is upon you." -Luke 11:20

In Lent, we imitate Jesus when He fasted forty days and overcame the temptations of Satan (Mt 4:2ff). Some demons cannot be driven out except through prayer and fasting (Mt 17:21). "Prayer and fasting are the first and most effective weapons against the forces of evil" (The Gospel of Life, Pope St. John Paul II, 100).

In today's Gospel reading, we hear about Jesus "casting out a devil" (Lk 11:14) and showing that He is stronger than the strong man, Satan (Lk 11:22). Just as in the Gospel, Jesus is driving out demons right now, but this is only the beginning. At the end of our forty-day fast, Jesus has planned a worldwide rout of demons when hundreds of millions of Catholics proclaim their faith and reject Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises. This Easter time, God the Father plans to manifest that He has disarmed "the principalities and powers. He made a public show of them and, leading them off captive, triumphed in the person of Christ" (Col 2:15).

Be faithful in your Lenten prayer and fasting. Satan and his demons are shaking and convulsing, as the Church exercises the authority given her by Jesus. The rout is on. Fast in faith.

Prayer: Father, may I see Lent the way You see it.

Promise: "Walk in all the ways that I command you, so that you may prosper." -Jer 7:23

Praise: St. John of God left the military to minister to the sick and needy.

COMMAND PERFORMANCE

"Whoever fulfills and teaches these commands shall be great in the kingdom of God." -Matthew 5:19

Many years ago, I told my little daughter to pick up the mess on her bedroom floor. An hour later, I checked her room. "Daddy, daddy!" she exclaimed. "I cleaned my floor as you told me. And look, I also made my bed and dusted my shelf and cleaned my desk!" My daughter kept my command and far exceeded it because of her desire to please her beloved daddy.

The Old Covenant contained hundreds of commandments to be "carefully" observed (Dt 4:6). Furthermore, Jesus has raised the demands of these commands to a much higher level of fulfillment. He also requires us to obey not only the letter of His commands (Mt 5:17ff), but also the spirit (see 2 Cor 3:6).

To fulfill the letter and spirit of these noble commands, we need the Holy Spirit. The "just demands of" God's commands are only fulfilled in the Spirit (Rm 8:4). In the Holy Spirit, the love of God is poured out in our hearts (Rm 5:5). With love for God overflowing in our hearts, we focus on pleasing God (cf Rm 8:8). The Spirit leads us to "cry out, 'Abba!' (that is, 'Father!')" (Rm 8:15)

As my daughter's love for me kept her joyfully focused on pleasing me by keeping my command, so our Spirit-inspired love for God fills us with the desire to please Him. "The love of God consists in this: that we keep His commandments - and His commandments are not burdensome" when we love Him wholeheartedly (1 Jn 5:3). In the Spirit, tell the Lord: "I love Your command" (Ps 119:127). Then keep and exceed His commands.

Prayer: Father, "I will delight in Your commands, which I love" (Ps 119:47). I delight in You and will love You with abandon.

Promise: "He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your children within you." -Ps 147:13

Praise: St. Perpetua was so absorbed in God's love while being martyred that she was unaware that she had suffered great injuries.
