January 13th The baptism of the Lord
Jesus, You were baptised in the river Jordon by John the Baptist, to show us all the value and
need for baptism.
This sacrament truly makes us all sons and daughters of God.
What an amazing gift we receive.
Who can't truly understand Your love for us, that even though we are naturally prone to sin, we
are called to come above our human condition and be Your brothers and sisters.
Help us to realize that Your love also calls us to live our baptismal promises, to reject satan,
and all evil spirits.
Help us to help.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday SPIRIT-FILLED AND SPIRIT-WILLED

"The Holy Spirit descended on Him in visible form like a dove." -Luke 3:22
On this last day of the Christmas season, we can receive in a new way the outpouring of the Spirit.
Like Jesus, we must go to our Jordan and meet our St. John the Baptizer. There's a person and a
place that the Lord has chosen to be instrumental in lavishing His Spirit on us (Ti 3:6). Like
Jesus, we will have to deny and humble ourselves to be at the right place at the right time
(Mt 3:15). We will struggle interiorly to "let it be done" to us (Lk 1:38).
Let's resist our resistance to the Spirit. The Lord wants to give the Spirit to us much more than we
want to receive Him. If we would only want the Spirit more than we want our own way! Jesus, the
Baptizer in the Spirit (Mk 1:8), is so quiet and gentle, "not crying out, not shouting, not making
His voice heard in the street" (Is 42:2). It's so easy to brush Him off, stifle the Christmas Spirit,
and miss the opportunity of a lifetime. Yet, if we want to, we can hear Jesus breathing on us the
words: "Receive the Holy Spirit" (Jn 20:22). The Spirit descends quietly as a dove (Mt 3:16),
noticeable only to those who want to notice.
"My point is that you should live in accord with the Spirit and you will not yield to the cravings
of the flesh" (Gal 5:16).
Prayer: Father, today immerse me in the Spirit.
Promise: "He saved us through the baptism of new birth and renewal by the Holy Spirit." -Ti 3:5
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, for not leaving us orphans. Thank You, Father, for baptizing us into Your
family. Holy Spirit, rain down on us the gifts and graces we need for each day.

Bible Telephone Line
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 27 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the
daily Mass. It is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer
request which will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day on a separate line.

END HUNGER
WE CAN DO IT
We do indeed have the adequate means and framework so that beautiful words and good wishes may become
an action plan of substance that leads effectively to the eradication of hunger in our world. To this
end we need joint efforts, upright hearts, and persistent concern to firmly and resolutely make the
other's problems one's own.
"LACK OF POLITICAL WILL"
There is a fundamental lack of political will. What is needed is the willingness to end hunger, and
this ultimately will not happen without a moral conviction that is shared by all peoples and all
religious persuasions, where the integral good of the person is at the heart of all initiatives and
consists in "doing to another what we would want done to ourselves."
DON'T BE INDIFFERENT
... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves
to succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a dignified life.
