March 8th, Second Sunday of Lent
Jesus, please open our hearts, souls and minds to truly understand what we are supposed to do for
You this Lent.
Lent is a time for introspection, and a time to understand the path that we are on.
Jesus, help us to see the direction that we are truly taking on our journey to You.
Help us to commit to really becoming a new creation in, to and through You.
Let this Lent be a new begining in our lives, and let this Lent correct any faults that we need to
correct.
Thank You Jesus, for Your love.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday THE GREATEST

"This is My beloved Son on Whom My favor rests. Listen to Him." -Matthew 17:5
Abram (Abraham) is the father of many nations (see Gn 12:2-3). He was and continues to be a blessing to
the Jewish people, Muslims, and Christians. Yet as great as Abraham is, "the least born into the kingdom
of God is greater than he" (Mt 11:11). As sons and daughters of God the Father, we Christians are called
to the greatest of greatness.
We fulfill our amazing potential only by listening to Jesus (Mt 17:5). He alone is the Truth of our lives
and the Way to live the life of ultimate greatness (see Jn 14:6).
Nevertheless, even in our new nature through Baptism, we have difficulty listening to and obeying Jesus.
We need God the Father to reveal to our hearts and minds the divinity of His Son (see Mt 17:5). When we
believe in Jesus' divinity on a deep level, we will listen and submit to Him as God. Also, we need the Holy
Spirit, the third Person of the divine Trinity, to proclaim to us that "Jesus is Lord," that is, God
(1 Cor 12:3). The three apostles at Jesus' Transfiguration rightly listened, submitted to the Lord, and
became great only after the Holy Spirit descended on them at the first Christian Pentecost. We likewise
need a new Pentecost to believe in a life-changing way in Jesus' divinity so as to fulfill our call to
greatness.
On this second Sunday of Lent, may God the Father and God the Holy Spirit confirm profoundly Jesus' divinity,
and may we listen to Jesus as God, do as He wills, and be great as He wills.
Prayer: Father, renew my Baptism today.
Promise: "With the strength which comes from God bear your share of the hardship which the gospel entails."
-2 Tm 1:8
Praise: Praise You, Jesus. Through Your Resurrection we have access to the Father. Our "faith and hope, then,
are centered in God" (see 1 Pt 1:21).

Bible Telephone Line
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 28 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the
daily Mass. It is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer
request which will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day on a separate line.

END HUNGER
DON'T BE INDIFFERENT
... These are some reflections I wish to share with those men and women who do not allow themselves to
succumb to indifference; who hear the cry of those who do not have the minimum needed to lead a dignified
life.
THE CHURCH AND THE POOR
For her part, the Catholic Church, in the exercise of the mission with which her divine Founder has
entrusted her, struggles daily throughout the world against hunger and malnutrition in multiple ways and
through her various structures and associations, remembering that those who suffer from misery are not
different from us. They share our flesh and blood. They deserve ... a friendly hand to help and support
them, in such a way that no one is left behind, so that in our world fraternal solidarity may boast its
own identity card and citizenship, beyond any flashy slogans void of substance.

The annual celebration of World Food Day emphasizes ... the needs, yearnings and hopes of millions of
persons who lack bread each day. Increasingly, there are more people who sadly make up part of that great
number of human beings who have nothing, or almost nothing to eat. It should be the opposite and yet
recent statistics are a painful proof of how international solidarity appears to be cooling.
