HARDLY HEARING?
"Today, if you should hear His voice, harden not your hearts as at the revolt in the day of testing in the desert." -Hebrews 3:7-8
The Israelites in the desert revolted against the leadership of Moses, who represented God (Nm 14:20ff). Thus, they revolted against God. All they could see was a blazing hot sun, a limited diet (Ex 16:1-4), a desert landscape "parched, lifeless, and without water" (Ps 63:2), and a report of giants inhabiting the land God promised. All the while in plain sight of the Israelites was daily bread and meat supplied directly from heaven (Ex 16:4ff). They had recently walked between walls of water in the Red Sea and saw the defeat of the Egyptian army by the hand of God. They had hardened their hearts, blinded their eyes, and closed their ears; they failed God's test.
God's warning to not harden our hearts applies to us, too. We might also be blind to the miracles right in front of our eyes. At every Mass, on the altar for all to see is the miracle of miracles: bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus, God Himself.
The Israelites could have seen the miracles before their eyes, but they only had eyes for what bothered them. Will you harden your heart or allow the Lord to open it to receive the Holy Spirit? "If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts" (see Heb 3:7-8, 15).
Prayer: "Open the eyes of my heart, Lord." May I never be blind to your love and never rebel against You.
Promise: Jesus said: "I do will it. Be cured." -Mk 1:41
Praise: St. Marguerite did not harden her heart, but helped to build up the new colony of Canada. She was known as "Mother of the Colony."

MAKE A COVENANT WITH GOD
"[Jesus] had to become like His brothers in every way, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest before God on their behalf, to expiate the sins of the people." -Hebrews 2:17
A covenant is a handing over of one's essence. It involves a complete and total self-giving, a pledge of one's very self. A covenant requires faith, hope, and love. It's not a business contract, although it is just as binding.
The Lord remembers His covenant forever (Ps 105:8). May we help others to learn of His covenant and live it faithfully and joyfully. May we live our part in God's new covenant (Jer 31:31-34).
A marriage is also a covenant. Two parties lay down their lives for each other in a way that binds them to each other. God's covenant with His people resembles the marriage covenant. Scripture most often presents marriage as a picture of how God's covenant relationship with His people works (see Eph 5:21-32; Hos 2:20-21).
Jesus sealed the New Covenant with His blood. At the Last Supper, the first Eucharist, Jesus said: "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me" (1 Cor 11:25). Likewise, all of the martyrs who died for Jesus spilled their blood as a seal to witness their part in the new covenant.
Jesus gives up His body and blood for us in covenant love at every Mass. Let us do likewise. Celebrate Mass as often as possible in covenant love.
Prayer: Father, I offer You my heart, soul, mind, and body for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer. I love You forever.
Promise: "Since [Jesus] was Himself tested through what He suffered, He is able to help those who are tempted." -Heb 2:18
Praise: Alice has saved hundreds of children by personally loving and counseling young mothers in front of abortion chambers.

CHANGE THE SUBJECT - One Bread, One Body, 1/10/2017

CHANGE THE SUBJECT
"In subjecting all things to Him, God left nothing unsubjected. At present we do not see all things thus subject, but we do see Jesus crowned with glory and honor." -Hebrews 2:8-9
Everyone and everything is to be subjected to Jesus. "He went to heaven and is at God's right hand, with angelic rulers and powers subjected to Him" (1 Pt 3:22). "Now He waits until His enemies are placed beneath His feet" (Heb 10:13), "so that at Jesus' name every knee must bend in the heavens, on the earth, and under the earth, and every tongue proclaim to the glory of God the Father: JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!" (Phil 2:10-11)
"Christ must reign until God has put all enemies under His feet, and the last enemy to be destroyed is death" (1 Cor 15:25-26). "He will give a new form to this lowly body of ours and remake it according to the pattern of His glorified body, by His power to subject everything to Himself" (Phil 3:21). "When, finally, all has been subjected to the Son, He will then subject Himself to the One Who made all things subject to Him, so that God may be all in all" (1 Cor 15:28).
In total love, worship Jesus and joyfully throw yourself at His feet.
Prayer: King Jesus, thank You for the privilege of being Your subject.
Promise: "All who looked on were amazed. They began to ask one another: 'What does this mean? A completely new teaching in a spirit of authority! He gives orders to unclean spirits and they obey!' " -Mk 1:27
Praise: Joyce often prays simply by gazing up a crucifix and wordlessly praising her Savior.

LIVE DAILY YOUR BAPTISM - One Bread, One Body, 1/9/2017
Monday, January 9, 2017, Baptism of the Lord

LIVE DAILY YOUR BAPTISM
"Jesus was baptized..." -Matthew 3:16
Baptism forgives and erases our sins (Catechism, 403, 405). Jesus never sinned. So why did He submit to Baptism? "The baptism of Jesus is on His part the acceptance and inauguration of His mission as God's suffering Servant. He allows Himself to be numbered among sinners" (Catechism, 536). In addition, the Father reaffirmed Jesus' Sonship, which was important, since Satan was about to attack His status as God's Son (Mt 4:3ff).
In accepting Baptism, "already [Jesus] is anticipating the 'baptism' of His bloody death. Already He is coming to 'fulfill all righteousness,' that is, He is submitting Himself entirely to His Father's will: out of love He consents to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins" (Catechism, 536). This abandonment delights the Father, Who proclaims Jesus as His beloved Son (Mt 3:17).
God "anointed [Jesus] with the Holy Spirit and power" when He was baptized by John (see Acts 10:37-38). Likewise, we too were anointed. Let us be grateful for our own baptismal calling, which makes us Christians, brothers and sisters of Jesus, sons and daughters of the Most High God, forgiven of all sin, and priests, prophets, and kings by virtue of our Baptism (see Catechism, 1546).
Each day, bury your old, sinful nature and live your new, risen nature with Christ. Live daily your Baptism.
Prayer: Father, I praise You for my Baptism into Your Son Jesus. Thank You forever for adopting me as Your child!
Promise: "I, the Lord, have called you for the victory of justice."-Is 42:6
Praise: "All of you who have been baptized into Christ have clothed yourself with Him" (Gal 3:27). Praise You, Jesus, beloved Son of the Father!

PM eNewsletter The Epiphany
January 8th, Mary, The Epiphany
This week, oh! Christ, Your church celebrates the coming of the magi.
Jesus, give us all the faith of the magi to be willing to go anywhere to find You.
Give us their courage to face any obstacle to come to You.
Lord, give us their trust to know that we will find You if only we reach out to You.
Let us all make this year, a year of new beginnings of walking to You, and following in Your footsteps.
Help us to truly focus on You, and become all that You want us to be.
Let this be our best year of faith and hope and trust in You, and You alone.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body
This weeks readings and reflections
Sunday ONLY THE FOOLS ARE WISE
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=1/8/2017
"We observed His star at its rising and have come to pay Him homage." -Matthew 2:2
The wise men looked like fools. They traveled for months or even longer in following a star. How
foolish to give "gold, frankincense, and myrrh" to a Baby! (Mt 2:11) How foolish and even
strange to give myrrh, an anointing balm for the dead, to anyone except to someone about to die!
The wise men looked foolish. This is the only way to be wise in a foolish world. Only fools for
Christ are wise (see 1 Cor 3:18; 4:10). Therefore, to be wise, we must not care about looking
wise, being popular, being accepted, making money, and being successful. To be wise, we must be
willing to suffer ridicule, rejection, persecution, and pain.
Christ crucified is the Wisdom of God (1 Cor 1:24). Consequently, no one wants to be wise except
those who love Jesus our Wisdom (1 Cor 1:30) so much they give Him everything, prostrate
themselves before Him in adoration, and suffer in the pattern of His death (Phil 3:10). Wisdom
is available for the asking (Jas 1:5). But who will love Him enough to ask for it?
Prayer: Father, I choose to take up my crosses each day (Lk 9:23) and become wise.
Promise: "See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the
Lord shines, and over you appears His glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your
shining radiance." -Is 60:2-3
Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Word-Made-Flesh, the Light to the nations. All glory, honor, and
power be Yours forever. Alleluia!

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
WELCOME CHILDREN, MIGRANTS
SALVATION HISTORY
... We need to become aware that the phenomenon of migration is not unrelated to salvation
history, but rather a part of that history. One of God's commandments is connected to it:
"You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt"
(Ex 22:21); "Love the sojourner therefore; for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt"
(Deut 10:19).
SIGN OF THE TIMES
This phenomenon constitutes a sign of the times, a sign which speaks of the providential
work of God in history and in the human community, with a view to universal communion. While
appreciating the issues, and often the suffering and tragedy of migration, as too the
difficulties connected with the demands of offering a dignified welcome to these persons,
the Church nevertheless encourages us to recognize God's plan.
"PEOPLE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THINGS"
The Church ... invites us to do this precisely amidst this phenomenon, with the certainty
that no one is a stranger in the Christian community, which embraces "every nation, tribe,
people and tongue" (Rev 7:9). Each person is precious; persons are more important than
things, and the worth of an institution is measured by the way it treats the life and
dignity of human beings, particularly when they are vulnerable, as in the case of child
migrants.

Alleluia!

"What you have done is keep the choice wine until now." -John 2:10
Most people put things off till the last minute, even Christmas. Jesus, the Reason for the season, desires to come into our lives and be our Lord, but we put Him off. Now we are in the last three days of the Christmas season. Jesus is coming on strong. It's regrettable we've waited until the last minute, spending our Christmas missing out on relationship with Christ. Yet, because He is rich in mercy, He has saved the best until last (Jn 2:10).
We must open our hearts and pray for ourselves and others that life and power be given to us sinners (1 Jn 5:16). We've just begun 2017 and are already running out of the new wine of the Spirit (Jn 2:3). We must do whatever Jesus tells us (Jn 2:5) so He can transform our weakness into His glory and power (2 Cor 12:9). Then we in turn can transform this world for Jesus in 2017.
"We know that we belong to God, while the whole world is under the evil one" (1 Jn 5:19). There is One greater in us "than there is in the world" (1 Jn 4:4). We have "authority to expel unclean spirits and to cure sickness and disease of every kind" (Mt 10:1). We can attack the gates of hell, and the devil can't do anything about it (Mt 16:18). Satan and all his hosts tremble before God's people as we dismantle the strongholds of the evil one (2 Cor 10:4). People of God, charge! 2017 is the year of grace, the year of victory. Alleluia!
Prayer: Jesus, come into my life. Do absolutely anything You want.
Promise: "Jesus performed this first of His signs at Cana of Galilee. Thus did He reveal His glory, and His disciples believed in Him." -Jn 2:11
Praise: St. Raymond is noted for promoting the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and even served as confessor to the Pope.
