December 1st The first Sunday of Advent
Here we are again, Jesus, into Christmas.
Please Lord, let this truly be a holy period, for us to prepare, to herald Your birth.
Let us not get so wrapped up into presents, that we forget to give You, the present of our love.
Let us see that in this amazing birth our eternal life factor was now in play.
You came to give us all eternal life and You came to make reparation for all of the sins that was
ever or will be committed.
Let us be set on fire with love for You and the love You showed us.
Let us see You in others and be Christ to them, so that someday we all may shine in heaven with You.
Amen and Amen.
Thank You Lord, for loving us totally.

Sunday THE NECESSITY OF ADVENT

"May He strengthen your hearts, making them blameless and holy before our God and Father at the
coming of our Lord Jesus." -1 Thessalonians 3:13
Happy New Year! This is the first day of the Church's year and the beginning of the Advent season.
"This holy season teaches us that Christ's coming was not only for the benefit of His contemporaries;
His power has still to be communicated to us all" (from a pastoral letter by St. Charles Borromeo,
read at the Office of Readings for Monday of the first week of Advent). The purpose of Advent is to
prepare us for a deep, personal, life-changing, world-shaking encounter with Christ this Christmas
season.
For thousands of years, people have been preparing for Christ's coming and for almost seventeen
hundred years have been celebrating Advent. The Holy Spirit has taught the Church that to prepare for
Christ, we must:
* Pray the Mass with so much love that Mass becomes the center of our lives. Thus, we have the word,
"Christ-Mass."
* Be immersed in repentance and express this by Advent Confession(s) (see Lk 3:3ff).
* Abide in God's Word (Jn 8:31) and share His Word. This is the origin of Christmas cards.
* Do penance, especially fasting. This is the connotation of the Advent color, purple.
* Do good deeds, especially almsgiving. This is the origin of Christmas gift-giving.
Christ is coming in a new way this Christmas. Get ready this Advent.
Prayer: Jesus, I accept You as Lord of my life and of my Advent.
Promise: "Be on guard lest your spirits become bloated with indulgence and drunkenness and worldly
cares. The great day will suddenly close in on you like a trap." -Lk 21:34
Praise: Praise You, risen Lord Jesus, holy and victorious. Come, Emmanuel. Maranatha!

Please pray for my father-in-law, Richard, who has been suffering with cancer for 2 years. He is
not feeling well and is refusing to see a doctor or go to the hospital because he fears he will be
in the hospital for months like he was last year. Pray he will go to a Dr so he can get whatever
help he needs to be healthy for Christmas.

Bible Telephone Line
The Bible Telephone Line (BTL) has been in operation for 27 years. Begun by Fr. Al in 1991, it now
continues with one deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and two lay teachers trained by
Presentation Ministries. The BTL provides callers with a short teaching on the readings for the
daily Mass. It is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Callers may also leave a short prayer
request which will be shared on the line with the other callers the next day on a separate line.

THE CHURCH AND THE POOR
For her part, the Catholic Church, in the exercise of the mission with which her divine Founder has
entrusted her, struggles daily throughout the world against hunger and malnutrition in multiple ways
and through her various structures and associations, remembering that those who suffer from misery
are not different from us. They share our flesh and blood. They deserve ... a friendly hand to help

infrastructure, we ought to feel shame for not having achieved the same advances in humanity and
solidarity, and so satisfy the primary needs of the most disadvantaged.
