PM eNewsletter 2nd Sunday of Advent

December 8th Second Sunday of Advent

Merciful Jesus, Your plan of our redemption is about to start with
the Immaculate Conception of Mary our Mother.

This week, we celebrate this feast and so start to prepare for Your
coming among us.

Jesus, let us be in awe of how You prepared the perfect "ark of the
new covenant" through Mary.

Mary was sinless from conception and always stayed sinless.

We, who are sinners, fall far short of truly being really worthy of Your love.

Yet, You loved us so much that You became one of us to carry all of
our sins to the cross.

Jesus, help us to truly be repentent for our sins, help us to get to
confession and amend our ways.

Amen and Amen.

Thank you Lord, for loving us totally.

One Bread, One Body

This weeks readings and reflections

Sunday PROPHET-SHARING
http://presentationministries.com/obob/obob.asp?lang=en&d=12/8/2013

"John the Baptizer made his appearance as a preacher in the desert of Judea." -Matthew 3:1

Today the Church introduces us to a crusty character named John. He dressed in a garment
of camel's hair (Mt 3:4). If you know anything about the revolting habits of camels, you
understand why you wouldn't want to cut their hair. John not only dressed funny but also
ate funny. He'd snatch up a grasshopper and dip it in some honey as we would dip a potato
chip or a chicken nugget. Then he'd munch on the grasshopper (Mt 3:4).

St. John the Baptizer talked as you'd expect someone to talk who eats grasshoppers. He
roared at the religious leaders: "You brood of vipers! Who told you to flee from the wrath
to come?" (Mt 3:7) Of course, John was the one who told them to flee from the wrath to come.
John was a prophet, and more than a prophet (Mt 11:9). We need to listen to him. Santa
Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph will not call us to repentance, but John will. The
sales clerks, TV announcers, and celebrities won't tell us the truth, but John will.

John still roars: "Reform your lives! The reign of God is at hand" (Mt 3:2). "Prepare the
way of the Lord, make straight His paths" (Mt 3:3). "Give some evidence that you mean to
reform" (Mt 3:8).

Prayer: Father, send someone into my life to call me to repentance. May I go to Confession
as soon as possible.

Promise: "The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him." -Is 11:2

Praise: Praise the risen Jesus, Emmanuel, "God with us." All glory to the risen King of
kings and Lord of lords (Rv 19:16).

Pope Francis, Shepherd of Truth
http://presentationministries.com/pope/fst2013-11.asp?navlink=latest

Notable quotations from Pope Francis and official
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church

MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES

"SIGN OF THE TIMES"

In our changing world, the growing phenomenon of human mobility emerges, to use the words
of Pope Benedict XVI, as a "sign of the times"...

POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES

While it is true that migrations often reveal failures and shortcomings on the part of
States and the international community, they also point to the aspiration of humanity to
enjoy a unity marked by respect for differences, by attitudes of acceptance and
hospitality which enable an equitable sharing of the world's goods, and by the protection
and advancement of the dignity and centrality of each human being.

GRACE VERSUS SIN

From the Christian standpoint, the reality of migration, like other human realities,
points to the tension between the beauty of creation, marked by Grace and the Redemption,
and the mystery of sin. Solidarity, acceptance, and signs of fraternity and understanding
exist side by side with rejection, discrimination, trafficking and exploitation, suffering
and death.
