Jesus, in this week's gospel, we hear that if we love You we
will keep the commandments.
That sounds so easy and so good, and yet it is so hard to do.
We have a hard time in not being the lord of our lives.
We struggle with putting You, or anyone, in front of us.
We have a selfish attitude that society feeds upon, and
wants us not to give up.
We are supposed to be in total charge of all of our lives.
Jesus, that is so far from the truth.
We have to die to self, and let You truly take over and be
the center of our existence.
Jesus, this is hard for us to do.
It's easy to give You an hour of our time on the weekend.
Yet, Lord, if we are not working for a total
metanouia(change of heart) into You, we are only playing
a game, not really becoming one with You.
Help us, O Christ, to die to ourselves, and come alive only in you.
Amen and Amen
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving us totally.

Peter and John "upon arriving imposed hands on them and
they received the Holy Spirit." —Acts 8:17
Near the end of Jesus' public ministry, Samaritans would not
allow Jesus and his disciples to pass through their town
because they were headed toward Jerusalem. St. John the
apostle was indignant. He asked Jesus if he could call down
fire from heaven to destroy those Samaritans (Lk 9:52-54).
Jesus refused him, rebuking John on the spot (Lk 9:55).
Jesus did eventually allow John to call down fire from heaven
onto the Samaritans. The deacon Philip had taken the
gospel in power to the unbelieving Samaritans, and they
received the word of God (Acts 8:5ff). "When the apostles in
Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of
God, they sent Peter and John to them. The two...prayed
that they might receive the Holy Spirit" (Acts 8:15). John
laid his hands on those whom he had earlier wished to
incinerate, and the fire of God, the Holy Spirit, did fall upon
them to consume them with the love of God (Acts 8:17).
Jesus gave John his wish, but not in the way John had
expected. John had to undergo a bigger conversion than the
Samaritans did.
Are there any individuals or groups of people whom you
wouldn't mind having God remove from earth? Can you
imagine if Jesus eventually used you as His agent to bring
these people into new life in the Spirit? If we are to love our
enemies, we need that same gut-wrenching conversion John
experienced. Repent! Forgive and love your enemies (Lk 6:35).

Pray for me, Jeanne & My husband, David, who has a
history of being controlling and bully to me in regards to his
adult daughter, Corrine- who is causing all kinds of strife in
our marriage and family, with out David doing anything about
it other then to threaten me. Rebuke all the lies that have
been told about me. Pray for immediate intercession for me,
for protection from David's rage and wisdom & guidance for
me. Pray for the scales to be removed from both of their
eyes as to their part in all of this. Pray for them both to
surrender themselves to the Lord and be reborn.

Music infuses hope into the human soul, says Pope Benedict

Vatican City, Apr 25, 2008 / 10:08 am (CNA).- This week
the Italians took their turn at showing their affection and
respect for the Pope by hosting a classical music concert
in honor of his third anniversary and birthday. Benedict XVI
thanked the choir and the orchestra for sharing the gift of
music with people. Music, he said, has a spiritual value
because it can "infuse hope into the human soul."
The concert was offered by the President of Italy,
Giorgio Napolitano, who met with the Pope for 15 minutes
beforehand. The meeting was characterized by the Vatican
as one of "great cordiality" and included a discussion of the
Holy Father's recent U.N. address. Following their
conversation, the heads of state proceeded to the
Paul VI Hall to attend the performance.
The concert featured pieces by Luciano Berio,
Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven and was
performed by the Giuseppe Verdi symphony orchestra
and choir of Milan.
